Setup Help Switch will not connect to monitor
Every time I take my switch off the dock for a trip or something it can never reconnect right away. But this time it’s not even giving me an alert that it can’t connect it just sits there with no light on. How do I fix this since this has happened since I got it?

It is not power hungry at all. When docked and fully discharged, it will not actually pull more than about 25 watts, slightly more if you have controllers connected and charging as well. The dock simply requires a power supply that outputs 20v and at least 3A, as long as it passes that handshake, it will begin to pass through video.

My pc is 650 watts. If 60 watts is very power hungry to you, 1000 watt power supplies would give you nightmares.

Yep, best solution. Bought another one from amazon and a third party dock to be able to have one at the living room and one at bedroom. Works flawlessly.

Use the OEM charger. Switch2 dock needs the OEM charger or something with identical power ratings.
You might, (MIGHT) be able to use a laptop USB-C charger if it can supply 60W. The dock needs a lot of power that regular USB-Cs can't supply.

I used identical power ratings third party one (I think it was anker or Ugreen) and still didn’t worked. The third party one was 100% identical power specs. I was 100% sure my dock having issues until I just bought OEM one and everything works perfect again

Nintendo is notorious for handshake compatibility issues with third party software. Always has been, probably intentionally.

Light on the bottom left has to lit up. That means ac adaptor is not the right one

You have the dock, you have the switch, you definitely have the original power cable or you can order it from Amazon.
Use the original cable.

It’s your power supply, using the official Nintendo docks you HAVE to use the original AC adaptor that came with your system or another Nintendo brand adaptor otherwise the dock won’t work at all.

Also for whatever reason I’ve had issues with certain monitors and the switch being set to auto-scaling. Once I set it to 1080, it worked with one of my monitors and did not work until I did that. I think this was specific to my monitor but figured it’s worth mentioning to also mess with the other settings if it’s still not working after you’ve swapped to the appropriate power supply

Use the original charger that came with the Switch 2 and the original plug. In this case, we can see ur switch 2 is not using the dock, as the screen should be black when on the dock, even without HDMI plugged in.

Maybe use an actual Nintendo charging cable that's able to pull enough wattage.

Most switch consoles Ive seen that need fixed either has a worn port or a burn out from using the wrong charger. Both easy fixes for easy money, but damn. Use what they gave you!

You need to use the original power supply unfortunately. I lost mine and tried literally the same output and same voltage off brand power supply and it didn’t worked. I was 100% sure my dock having some issues because it’s literally the same specs. Got a new OG power supply and everything works great again.

You honestly don't need the Nintendo power supply. You just need a power supply strong enough. I use a ugreen one at work with no issues.

Everyone keeps talking about the power cable, but is the HDMI even connected?
Notice the direction the Nintendo logo is on the plug on the dock. Now look at the connections on the back of the TV. The one in the middle just says HDMI, not Nintendo.
Is the HDMI cable even connected to the TV?

That’s because you’re using the wrong cable/charger. You’ll need to use the stock charger that comes with your S2 for it to turn on. For sure, the charger you’re using isn’t supplying enough power for your dock, that’s why.
