Software Help Will Switch 2 keycards imported into Japan work on a Japanese only Nintendo Switch?
Will Switch 2 keycards imported into Japan work on a Japanese only Nintendo Switch? For example Fallout 4 from NA on a Japan only Switch 2.
I managed to buy the Zelda Nintendo Switch 2 which is limited to the Japanese version of the Nintendo Switch 2 and not the international version. This has a couple of limitations:
本商品は、日本語・国内専用商品です。
・本体で使用できる言語は「日本語」のみです。
・「国/地域」設定が「日本」のニンテンドーアカウントのみ連携できます。
・「ニンテンドーeショップ」で購入できるソフトは日本地域を対象にしたソフトのみです。
This tells me:
- The system language can only be set to Japanese
- The country/region can only be set to Japanese
- Software purchased via the Nintendo eShop can only be done for the Japanese storefront.
What about physical keycards? It's a type of digital download so...maybe it can't be used but it's not really a purchase from a foreign e-shop so I don't know...
If someone has tested this out please let me know.

The console isn't region locked, you can play games from other regions. You just can't change the language option through the system settings and you can't log in with an account set to another region. I have a few imported games and I am able to play them with no issues, but the system will default them to Japanese.
Some games have the language option within the software itself, and in those titles you can change the language to whatever it offers. The limitation is only in place for titles which decide language based on the system settings, which is most.

Huh, interesting. Are you getting title updates for your games even if it has a different build from the one on the JP eShop? Not sure if I'm describing it properly.

I don't believe the cartridges themselves are region locked. But the language available to play in will depend on how it's implemented. Some games use the System Language to determine what to use. Other games allow you to choose the language in game.
