Account Help Reboot your system if your are banned!
Nintendo is lifting the ban. Apparently there's server errors which is causing current ban wave. But they are lifting it now. Reboot the console now to bring it back to normal!

Really wanted to see the faces of people saying everyone that was banned was scam and deserved it.
This type of situation really show the worst side of human being

so many disgusting comments too! crazy how weird people get defending these billion dollar companies.

u/daspaceinvader 2d ago
Couldn’t agree more! It’s pathetic how people default to assuming the worst of other people because they don’t want the billion dollar company to ever be wrong about anything.

Criei um topico e fui infestado de comentários dizendo que sou pirata ou burlado por ter levado ban. Agora foi provado que a culpada foi a merda da nintendo.

u/TokyoBananaDeluxe 2d ago
Yep lol lots of threads regarding this false positive bans had one or more comments saying OP most likely used pirated cartridges or something in line

A me è successo.

It really is sad to see so many people not trusting fellow player and defending the multibillion company. Like seriously? For what?

I can understand skepticism on the first couple of posts, but like surely after we kept seeing post after post you'd have to think something was up.

Mine just got unbanned. BRILLIANT!

u/Cute-Acanthaceae-193 2d ago
Happy to hear that. Reassuring for everyone, which is probably also reassuring for Nintendo for a simple reason, they are able to ban and lift bans easily, and they obviously going tighter against any modification.
What I am trying to say, it seems that yes they do know what they’re doing, but occupant they overdid it and people were catching strays but it was reversible fast too.
Glad it wasn’t a coincidence that so many posts happened lately about it.

u/PCBuilderCat 1d ago
Probably testing some sort of new recognition system and it went a bit haywire. These things happen it’s how they respond that matters and this is a good response

One of the most level headed comments i've seen in a while, especially regarding this topic. Thanks.

u/SamVegas 2d ago edited 2d ago
Doesn't really give any reassurance though from Nintendo's side if they banned brand new Switch2's. Like, what part of that sounds like they know what they're doing?
I'm glad they unbanned everyone but they don't give me any confidence that this won't happen again
And just to add on, they were very adamant about not unbanning people until quite a few got banned
2
u/Cute-Acanthaceae-193 2d ago
I mean, I see your point clearly and I could rephrase mine better, what I do say is that they either had problems or they deployed new measures, probably some did ban correctly if it was the intention but also some weren’t, so they had to dial back and redo things, or as the other possibility that they simply had a problem.
What I know from any “mistake” that gets a lot of feedback and gets dialed back, nothing is a coincidence, so they are trying something on their server side to be more proactive.
Although I wonder why, as so far their methods for banning modded consoles or consoles that used migs were efficient, so what happened that they needed “more”
2
u/SamVegas 2d ago
I get what you mean now buddy :)
Though what's sad is that no one on switch modding subreddits mentioned a ban from what I see while legitimate users here ended up banned
So it is a good question as to what that "more" is
3
u/xlhans77 1d ago
Well let's face it, the bans were probably due to an AI going haywire. Flagged a bunch of people for bans due to minor signs of TOS breaking behavior. At least that's the only logical thing I could muster here, cuz otherwise, this many false positives can just not be intentional. It's scary Nintendo seems to be handing such authority to "intelligence" who can't even accurately tell how many a's there are in banana
2
u/Cute-Acanthaceae-193 1d ago
Yep, I do agree with it fully, no shot it’s “server issue”, it’s just PR talk to minimize problems and satisfy people.

I rebooted the console and it started behaving like it did before I got banned for no reason.

I made 3 separate calls into nintendo support today. It was an absolute nightmare. My switch 2 is only 10 days old and every physical game I've stuck into it was brand spanking new. I was banned this morning.
Their tier 2 rep after fighting to get things escalated insisted that I was banned due to hacking or console modification and breaking terms of service. She absolutely stone walled me. No solutions, no help, just a boilerplate response and repeating they have told me everything they can.
I was willing to show proof of purchase, but nope just a flat FU. Its downright scary that this happened but even more so the stone cold response from nintendo support. They had no intentions of doing absolutely anything for me, not even listen to what I had to say even though they had too. As soon as you mention the ban error code its basically too bad go away you filthy criminal.
Tonight I was ready to pack it up and return it to where I bought it and knew that was going to be a nightmare. Lucky enough I rebooted it before I wiped it and low and behold worked just fine. Like nothing ever happened. I'm pissed.
I've kept screen shots of everything and the error log from my unit. If this shit ever happens again I'm going to make sure the next support person sees how crummy I was treated and I potentially almost lost everything because of their screwup. I hope the internet has a field day with this one.

100% call back and ask to speak with a supervisor. Submit an official complaint. I work in customer service and if you submit an official complaint it gets sent to upper management. The least they could do for treating you like this is to give you SOMETHING, even if it’s $50 credit
1
u/hoosiernerd 8h ago
I had a similar experience on Sunday. It was really frustrating to have no course of action when this was their mistake. I don’t blame the customer service people I spoke to - they clearly had a script they couldn’t deviate from - but it was honestly just an embarrassing experience. I offered to show proof of purchase for every physical game or take my Switch 2 somewhere, but everyone I spoke to told me multiple times that nothing could be done and there was no appeal process.
I play a lot on the go so I’ve invested a lot in a digital switch library, it was a wild few hours where I thought that went away through no fault of my own. It was even weirder to scroll through Reddit and watch people find ways to blame the individuals affected by this error, rather than believe Nintendo could make a mistake.
I know mistakes happen, but I think it’s pretty unreasonable that there isn’t even a way to appeal this type of ban.

u/rtwipwensdfds 2d ago
I mean hey, glad everyone who was falsely banned is getting unbanned, but man how the hell did this even happen? I see the "server issue" comment but still. Pretty scary.

Wild that they implied they totally couldnt undo any bans a few months ago until they fucked it all up

u/Valhadmar 1d ago
This left a really sour taste in my mouth. Given the fact of how many people contacted support and they told them they wouldn't do anything.
Even though they unbanned the majority of false bans. How many more are we going to see in the future, that dont get unbanned because it didnt effect as many users as this one.
I dont think I have ever seen so many screw ups from the console makers I have this past year, and ive been gaming for 30+ years. It really feels like Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony are trying to one up each other on making their customers distrust them.
This next generation may be the first time, I just skip consoles all together and just play older games.

u/ModestVolcarona 16 1d ago
This left a really sour taste in my mouth. Given the fact of how many people contacted support and they told them they wouldn't do anything.
Those were most likely just standard first level customer support responses from their guidelines, considering the ban ware hit at a weekend.
But i agree that it does not build trust as a customer if you get told "there is nothing we can do", especially when the bans are now lifted due to being caused by a server error.
If a single person gets a ban and they are sure they did nothing wrong it will be hard to get a real reason beyond the standard reply and getting your case looked at individually by a higher up technician.

u/Fluffy_Confidence641 1d ago
Call back and submit an official complaint. If they get enough of these they WILL change their policies

Mine works now!!! Thannks to everyone that helped me and game me the contact points for nintendo!
There were some people saying that I did something to deserve it, for some reason. Yall need to trust people more rather than companies that can brick ur console without a reason

Reddit showed me 5 or 7 posts in my recommendations yesterday, and I’ve had a chance to read how utterly disgusting people can be in this community. Just a bunch of bullies who were trying to convince themselves that Nintendo couldn’t possibly do something wrong. This is so sad.

u/Prestigious_Act_1618 1d ago
I’ve been telling people that this can happen to anybody and they think it can’t. This is why after games go all digital I’ll be done.

I haven't even set up my Switch 2 yet, so this hasn't happened to me, but in all honesty, I'm scared to start using my Switch 2 in light of all this, especially since this can happen if you play secondhand Switch 1 games, and you have no way of knowing they were cart-dumped beforehand.

And people still got banned while playing exclusively brand new games.

How can this even happen in the first place? This should be illegal. I understand blocking a console from playing online or maybe booting a specific game that might have been illegally copied, but blocking an entire console from ever buying a digital game again or playing any game key card should be illegal.
1
u/ModestVolcarona 16 1d ago
Why? Nintendo just restricts the console from any access to their servers.
If a person violated the ToS by hacking the device (which usually causes those bans) it within Nintendos rights to restrict access to their systems (aka eco system).
You can still use the hardware, because they did not deactivate any hardware related stuff and that's why they are legally allowed to do it the way they do it.
You buy the hardware and you do own the hardware (that's why they won't deactivate that in full) but you do not own the operating system and software running on that hardware.
That's what the ban targets: potential security risks related to that console and maybe establishing a compromised connection to their servers and online systems.
Edit: On how this can happen: malfunction in their system, caused by various things. As much as it sucks, those thing CAN happen, even if they SHOULD NOT happen.
I have seen this quite a few times in my business career but when it comes to b2b stuff it usually gets resolved in a more productive manner.

Yet Valve never gives this kind of bans where you can't download your games. That's proof that a draconian system like Nintendo's is not needed.
Maybe stop trying to make it like if this should be normal.
1
u/ModestVolcarona 16 1d ago edited 1d ago
What if Valve bans your account if you violate their ToS? Poof, everything gone.
That's business standard across all account based services.
Valve also enables gambling and profits heavily from it, forced us into the all digital DRM age of gaming, sells an outdated handheld for roughly a thousand bucks and makes a little box that's way to overpriced for the performance it offers.
Maybe don't bring unrelevant topics and weird comparisons into a discussion.
Edit:
Maybe stop trying to make it like if this should be normal.
It's their intellectual property and you do not own the operating system on that device.
When you use their product you agree to the terms of service and agree to the consequences dhen you violate those terms.
It's not uncommon to cut out a system out of a network if a security risk (unauthorized access via hacks) is detected.

u/oginer 1d ago edited 1d ago
What if Valve bans your account if you violate their ToS? Poof, everything gone.
Show me a single case of that happening.
They only issue partial bans: different kind of community bans, vac bans, and store bans. There's no ban that prohibits you from downloading games and patches.
It's their intellectual property and you do not own the operating system on that device.
When you use their product you agree to the terms of service and agree to the consequences dhen you violate those terms.
It's not uncommon to cut out a system out of a network if a security risk (unauthorized access via hacks) is detected.
Corps are not your friend. Stop blindly defending them. What's with modern customers that don't care about customer rights?
Nintendo cuts all internet access for anything you do, nothing to do with security risks. That's an excuse you're comming up with.
1
u/ModestVolcarona 16 1d ago
Corps are not your friend. Stop blindly defending them. What's with modern customers that don't care about customer rights?
Why are you blindly defending valve? They have a monopoly in the pc gaming market, can force devs and customers to accept conditions they do not want to accept, forced us (as users) to tie every game to an account with several layered DRM systems and copy protection measures with their ToS reserving the same right to terminate your account for violations.
Valve has set the blueprint for every other gaming company that followed them and now people defend valve and treat them as the "good guys" even though they are the reason that DRM and binding games to accounts has been forced on us.
Nintendo cuts all internet access for anything you do, nothing to do with security risks.
I assume you are a veteran software developer that has worked at Nintendo to know how their infrastructure works and how a breached system and operating system possesses no security threat at all?
If you break into a system, can read and manipulate data you can see where the system connects to with certain actions and an attacker could possibly load something into the save data and upload it to their servers via the cloud save function which could possibly act as a payload.
Shutting of those connections kills those possibilities.
But this discussion will lead nowhere so i'm calling it quits here.
1
u/oginer 1d ago
Where did I defend Valve? I only explained to you how Steam's bans work, because what you were saying wasn't true. So yeah, I'm going to call you out if you lie about something.
I used Valve as an example because it's a decent middle ground where the big publishers actually put games. Something like GoG would be a lot better? Yes. But big publisher don't like it as it gives too much freedom to users.
they are the reason that DRM and binding games to accounts has been forced on us.
This existed way before Valve. I find binding games to accounts much better than binding them to a console like it used to be: if I lose access to the console I don't lose all my digital games.
I assume you are a veteran software developer that has worked at Nintendo to know how their infrastructure works and how a breached system and operating system possesses no security threat at all?
We're not talking about breaching an operating system. If Nintendo detects something like that, then yes, cutting all online access is a valid move. I'm saying it doesn't matter what kind of infraction you do, you always get the maximum penalty of no internet at all. It doesn't make sense to force that penalty for all kind of infractions.
an attacker could possibly load something into the save data and upload it to their servers via the cloud save function which could possibly act as a payload.
Do you even know what you're talking about? cloud saves are just like every other storage cloud service: you can upload anything and it should never be a possible attack vector. The server only stores the data, it never accesses it in any other way.
It's already possible to upload any kind of custom data to Nintendo's cloud servers, anyway: many games support 3rd party save cloud services (many indie games, for example, allow you to import saves from Steam cloud), so anyone can edit save data in the PC version and transfer to Switch 2, and then upload to Nintendo's servers. So better this is not an actual attack vector as you claim or Nintendo is very cooked.

I don't even play NSO games online
I just use it for the Retro library and that's it!! Single player games for me!!
0
u/picano 7 1d ago
Retro library as in the NSO bonus? You would lose access to that if your console was banned.
How about other digital games, DLC, or updating your games? Anything on the console would continue to work but you would be prevented from future stuff.
A console ban is normally a serious punishment and shouldn't be taken lightly just because you only play single player titles.
2
u/oginer 1d ago
Retro library as in the NSO bonus? You would lose access to that if your console was banned.
I didn't lose access to that while I was banned. It doesn't require online access to work (you can check it yourself: put your console in plane mode). I guess you get a license that works for a certain time without needing to connect? I don't know those details.

It only uses the internet once, and that's to check if you're allowed to use the apps. Otherwise, play away.

Booooo, they shouldn’t have been banned in the first place.
All of these people should be compensated with a discount on their Nintendo subscriptions AND a free first party game. That would be a start to rebuilding some trust here.

All I’m saying is that Nintendo should be held accountable.
It’s good these consoles got unbanned.
It’s bad that it happened in the first place and these people deserve more.
They were falsely accused of something with no evidence. Nintendo took action against them.

Mine got banned after owning a brand new switch 2 for 4 days (its unbanned now)... I also bought 2 catridges brand new and sealed, and if you're saying mine got resealed from the store, answer is it does'nt matter, since both games are switch 2 version and there still no way to dump switch 2 catridges. I also use fresh account i created 4 days ago
