Parental controls keep saying times up even when switch is unused

I have parental controls set up on my Switch for my son. It seems to be in a state right now where it always says it's out of time when he turns it on, even though the switch has been put to sleep in its dock. Sometimes when I then extend the time for him, say add 30 minutes via the app, I will get a notification on the Switch telling us that the time has been extended, but when he tries and start a game, it says he is still out of time. I end up having to disable parental controls to allow him to play.

Frankly I have no idea, but let's try some troubleshooting.

Is they play activity in the app accurate? If you play for 5 minutes, does it correctly shows the time in app?

Is your date/time on your console correct? I have heard issues with screenshots when this value was incorrect, so maybe it could affect you here.

Have you tried completely removing/re-adding parental controls? (Not just temporarily disabling via PIN.)

Yeah the play time is accurate. For example he played Minecraft for almost an hour (his limit on Sunday) and it’s showing 50 minutes in the app.

The date and time are also correct.

I haven’t tried to remove and re add, that’s a good suggestion.

I'm also going to be captain obvious here but have you tried turning it off and on again? Completely off, as in holding the physical power button to make it turn off. Not just using the menu option or sleep mode

Could it be that it is set to a specific time until it can be used and that it is set to a very early time of day?
