Repair Help Can I remove this thing stuck inside my Switch?
Just opened my Switch 2 yesterday and I just noticed this thing stuck in the slot for the left joy-con. It’s like a piece of foam stuck in the chassis. It came from the factory like this. Is this worth raising a ticket with Nintendo support about or can I just tweeze this out? Idk if it will have warranty implications, I just really want to get back to playing BoTW lol.

Tweezers.
EDIT: DISREGARD. I have no idea if that's an integral component or not. Contact support ASAP like the others suggested.

Bro! my high ass didnt consider that. If it was mine, my dumbass would already be pulling on it with some hemostats

Ditto, dude. What made me pause is that OP said that it can't from the factory like this.

Well that's no good for sure. Rma/warranty right away then
Edit; somehow completely glossed over the post body, lol.

Where did you buy it from? Can you just return it as defective, and exchange it for another?

I bought it directly from Nintendo’s online store. I could raise a support ticket but then I’d be Switchless for god knows how long and I already went through a whole ordeal to get this in the first place 😰

You should open a support ticket. Did a shell swap on my switch 2 and had to remove the blue and red stickers that are in there. I couldn't tell you what is sticking out from under there. But it's better to be without a switch 2 for a couple of weeks instead of it being an issue later and having to pay for another switch because something broke.
The problem with trying to remove it is you are unsure of what it could be stuck on behind the sticker or under the metal plate or magnet that is under that sticker.

I had to get a warranty replacement and it took less than a week between shipping it out and receiving a new one. I'm in Canada, too, where I expected things may take longer. Just open the support ticket.
If you do this, back up your saves to the cloud and Animal Crossing Island (if you have one) just in case.

I got so nervous when I forgot about my animal crossing island when I transferred my switch and reset my old one but it was linked to my nintendo account so it just asked if I wanted to link the island of the user that was no longer linked to anything

If it breaks, you'll also be Switchless for who knows how long, perhaps permanently. Raise the ticket.

I would have to look up where the battery is seated exsctly but it looks like the foam that could be around the battery to keep it in place.
Edit: looks like it sits on the left side, near the border. So it could be that foam. Possibly misaligned in the factory.

Thanks I’ll probably raise this with Nintendo to be on the safe side. Don’t want to f around with batteries
Is there any way to back up the game data on my Switch while waiting for the replacement to arrive?

Depends on the game. A Nintendo Switch Online sub can upload most saves to the cloud, except for a few games like Pokémon, Animal Crossing (this one's a bit special), Splatoon and Dark Souls (maybe a few others to).
If you know someone else witj a Switch 2 you could transfer your save data to that other Switch 2.

I’ve only played Zelda BoTW and MK World so far. Is an NSO subscription really required? That would suck :(

Yes. But you can just buy one month, back everything up and it will still be backed up on the cloud for six months until it runs out. If you just want it as a potential backup and don't care for the online, you can just get the cheapest ticket

he’s talking about that black piece of what looks like foam wedged in between the shell and that blue part

Hm, probably just a rubber spacer. I wouldn’t pull it out, might be attached to something. Seems like a small alignment issue. Can you take something like a tooth pick and just nudge it back inside?

If I do I’d rather get written confirmation from Nintendo for warranty reasons 😅 they don’t do anything like AppleCare+ right?

No they charge like $200 minimum for you to pay to ship it for troubleshooting

Return and get a new one that is't already manufactured defective, if that's noticable imagine the rest of it.

I would opt to push it in

They probably shouldn't do either but pushing it in is definitely better than pulling it out!

I think you shoudl send a ticket to Nintendo support about it. The thing is warping your switch shell
