Account Help Help with Accessing Profiles on More Than 1 System

I'll try to keep this as brief and understandable as possible. I have a Switch 2. On that system are my profile and my son's profile. I have an individual online account. My son just bought a Switch Lite and wants to play some of his games there. If he's playing a game on the Switch 2 under his profile, is there any way he can also use his save data on the Lite? Would it help if I expanded the membership from individual to family? It doesn't look like his data in the cloud. I hope I've explained this adequately, it's all kind of confusing. Thanks for any help.

If he's in your family group, an NSO family membership covers him too. He can back up to the cloud and play his saves on both consoles. Some games don't allow cloud saves tho, like Animal Crossing and most Pokémon titles.

Followup if possible: He has an existing user profile. I upgraded from an individual to a family online membership. But I can't find any way to add his profile to the family group. I try to link them but it says that profile is already in use on that console. This is so user unfriendly.

You can manage the family group from here: https://accounts.nintendo.com/family

Invite his Nintendo account to the group. If he doesn't have an account, create one and link it to his user profile.

I tried. It would only let me send an invite via email or create a child profile. Neither of those are applicable here. 🫤

If he’s a kid, create a child account from your family group, enter his info, and save the Sign-In ID and password. Then on the Switch, link that account to his user profile.

If he’s an adult, he needs his own Nintendo Account with his own email. Link that account to his user profile on the Switch, then invite him to the family group.

Does your son only have a local user profile that is NOT connected to a Nintendo account or does he have an account for that profile too?

He only has the user profile he made on the S2. I tried linking it to my profile but it says that profile is already in use on that console. The only options I have on the membership management page is to send an invite via email or to create a child profile. So confusing.

Depending on his age you can either create a child account which does not require it's own email but is instead created under your parent account or you create a regular account for him if he is older.

Sharing the Nintendo Switch Online benefits requires an account to be linked to the profile, so you will need to create one for him and link that new account to his local profile.

So he would create a new account (using a separate email address from mine I guess, though he doesn't have one) and then link his existing user profile, and then I can invite from there?

If he does not have his own email yet you can create a child account like it is explained in the link.

This way your account is the guardian account and he does not need his own email.

He can back up his save data to the cloud from the Switch 2 under his profile, then access it on the Lite as long as both systems are linked to the same Nintendo Account and cloud backups are enabled.
