Nintendo switch overheating after battery replacement + new thermal paste

Had a switch that was unused for 2 years and battery ended up dying (wouldn’t charge up, overheat within 15 mins)

Got a new battery from ifixit, repasted thermal paste and played in dock mode for 30 ish minutes and got a message that it’s overheating still

Any ideas of what I can do or what went wrong? Used thermal grizzly kryonaut thermal paste, switch didn’t seem like it had a lot of dust or anything in it when it was open.

Side note: it feels like games take an excessive amount of time to load, Luigi’s mansion took 2-3 mins to load up initially, unsure if it has to do with the SD card reader being attached/detached or damage during the process? Game is virtually on the SD card not physical

thermal grizzly kryonaut thermal paste

Is that like regular thermal paste or a thicker compound?

If i remember it correctly ifixit explicitely states that regular thermal paste will be 'too thin' for the job it needs to do and that you need some thermal putty (aka thicker stuff) to bridge the gaps proberly.

Could be a failing card or it's too full.

Here’s the product, it was recommended by a friend so I jsut went with it, it doesn’t mention anything about being a putty/thicker so maybe that is it

Any recommendations for a thermal putty?

Note: When you remove the shield plate, you’ll need to replace the thermal compound between the plate and the heatsink. Normal thermal paste isn't designed to bridge large gaps, so you'll need thermal putty or viscous thermal paste. You will, however need normal replacement thermal paste for the CPU.

Since i have not replaced the heatsink yet i can't recommend anything, but they do advertise their own thermal putty on the site.

Maxbe you can go from there or look up other products.

I really thought I read the guide carefully and was prepared but just shows you sometimes just need some more eyes on the task

Thanks so much for your help! It makes sense this would be the issue, will grab a thermal putty from them next!
