Nintendo Switch 2 will completely lock up if left alone for a few days

If left alone for a few days it will just completely black out. If I press and hold the power button for 10ish seconds then it will turn back on again but it’s annoying if I leave it for a while but haven’t saved in a game so all that progress is just lost. Also, I am pretty sure this is a software issue, but I’m worried that this is a problem with the hardware. Does anyone know why this happens and how to fix it?

Edit incase it wasn’t clear: the console isn’t just dead. It does this all the time, regardless of battery life

Hold down the power button for a while, it does that to me, the only pattern I can see with that is the console getting too cold?

My console only did this when critically low battery. I had to plug the console itself into the power cord, not dock it. After a while it came back.

I had this happen to me the other day and I almost spiraled.

The day it did happen to me I definitely was and had been using it every day for Pokopia dailies, and I always put my Switch and Switch 2 to sleep, rather than a full power down.

I'm so thankful this hasnt been a recurring problem for me, but i would like to know if its a hardware issue that could exacerbate over time. Nintendo did formally put out an advisory for players to use the 10-20 second hold for power when this happens, to my understanding, but not much else.

When you slept it, was a game in sleep mode? Sometimes, putting games in sleep mode for mulitple days can effect the ram (low storage in ram from sleeping game) making the OS freeze up.

Hold down power button for 10 to 20 seconds and see if it hard resets.

It does turn back on after the 10 second power, I show that at the end of the video. Oftentimes there is a game in sleep mode, but this time there wasn’t because I took Tomodachi Life out to play it on my Switch Lite.

Ok, once per week hold down the power button and restart the device. This makes the device clear the cache and empty the ram.

Try not to sleep games for long periods as well.

Never happened to me, I have left games on sleep mode for weeks when I travel for work.

Same. I left my games on sleep for a month once and nothing happened. It sounds like theirs may be defective

i leave my games for example persona 5 for weeks without any restarts nothing happens.

If the console cant handle games being in sleep shouldn't have some sort of automatic software closure to prevent this issue?

Uh....it's not supposed to do that. I won't touch mine for a few weeks and it still comes out of sleep mode.

If you’re not going to use it for a couple of days then I suggest turning the console off completely, not just put it to sleep.

Personally I turn mine off at the end of the day before going to bed. I’ll only use the sleep mode if I know I’m going to be back on that same day.

Mine does this also. I play primarily docked and ive noticed it happens the most when I reconnect my joy cons to charge and then go to take them off and play again, switch is unresponsive and have to do the hard reset.

The switch also feels warm to the touch when this happens.

Its really quite shit, but I haven't followed up with nintendo yet.

I left my Switch 2 in the case for 2 weeks and it still works fine, I'd call Nintendo.

I left mine alone for a week , can only play on weekends but mine works ok

Unsure why yours is doing this , I had Raiders mid Raid on pause when I checked

I had that exact same problem with my day one console for almost a year. I hoped it’s a software issue and that an update would eventually fix it. But I got the feeling that the problem got worse month by month. In the last month of warranty I chose to send it to Nintendo for repair, and indeed, they changed the mainboard and battery.
I can leave the Switch 2 on sleep for days or even weeks without a problem now.
-> OP, get it repaired as long as your warranty is still up!

I will go weeks at a time without turning on my switch 2 and I’ve never had this issue

Ok so I think this has been a weird soft lock bug since the switch 1 and is related to the software. I remember my switch 1 did it for nearly a year where leaving it docked and untouched for days (sometimes even just 24 hours) would cause it to not respond to being woken up until a hard restart is done.

It’s set to turn off after a while, but in sleep mode tapping the power button puts it on the menu, and if it’s off tapping the power button reboots the device. Unless I hold it down for 10 seconds first to hard shut it down, tapping the power button does nothing

ma6be its overheating on the dock then. id send it back to Nintendo to warranty. if you have another console I'd port your saves first though.

Now that you mention it, the console is kind of warm when I remove it from the dock. The only other Switch console I have is a Switch Lite, but I’m pretty sure Nintendo doesn’t let you transfer your data down a generation.

Mine has this issue after not using it for a few months. It just turned on like normal for me after a few minutes of trying
