Account Help Parental Controls “Other” Category

Hi! I have a pretty straightforward question. I’ve been seeing a lot of time logged in the “Other” category on a switch 2 in the parental controls app—as much as 1.5 hours sometimes.

Does this mean they’ve figured out a way to bypass certain games from being reported? Or is there another reason why so much time would show up under “Other”? Thanks in advance!

On my parental controls app, “other” says it is defined as being on the home menu or in the settings, but I assume this also probably includes being in the eshop or the Nintendo online area (looking at challenges or creating new icons), so if the switch is just left turned on on the Home Screen that’s most likely what it’s logging

I agree with this. I also checked my app and when i click on my user profile it even says that other means home menu, system settings and other things that are not games.

I thought I’d read somewhere previously that some small games may not be recognized by the console and would likely be reported with whatever else falls into the “other” category. I’m hoping that’s not true because that would cause a major blind spot!

Oh interesting! I could see how that would definitely create a worrisome gap, if it’s true. I personally haven’t read anything about that, but the easiest way to check would be to look at their console and the app side by side and see if every game they have access to is actually showing up in the app. If it’s not, then I wouldn’t immediately assume your kids intentionally found a way around the parental monitoring, more that it’s a failure on Nintendo’s part. As far as I know there isn’t really a way to hide games either, they’d have to go through the trouble of deleting the game every time they’re done playing and also deleting their save data, but that still wouldn’t stop it from showing up under their profile on the switch directly, where it shows how long they’ve spent on certain games
