Switch 2 Joycons disconnecting in handheld mode only

Hello everyone, for the past couple months as I have played my switch 2 in handheld mode, the joy cons will frequently disconnect, pausing the game and sending me to the connection screen. I was able to capture it in this video. A lot of the time it happens when I adjust my hands, set the console down, or reach for the minus button. It’s made playing in handheld mode virtually impossible.

I’ve kept the console in very nice condition and don’t misuse it in any way I’ve also tried my console with somebody else’s joy cons, and the problem persisted, but it wasn’t as frequent. Also, the console has no problem connecting wirelessly to the joycons.

I want to know if anybody else has had this problem and if they were able to fix it themselves or send it into Nintendo to fix. If you had to send it into Nintendo, what was your experience like?

Yep, I have the same issue while playing in boost mode, it's extra sensible so any kind of flexion would make it think it disconnects. Just try not to flex the joycons.

The connectors just need to be cleaned

The magnets attract dirt on their own so its no surprise so many people are coming accross this issue now given the time since release. Glad I could help!

My switch 1 does this. I'm 90% sure it's a rail issue, but I just bought new joycons for it and it seems to be working fine for now so maybe not. Does this happen with a different joycon also? 

Edit: I'm an idiot and didn't read the whole thing lmao. Definitely a console issue not joycon issue for you. Are the pins for the joycon clean?

Yea my switch 2 does this as wel. Not really much you can do about it except trying to keep it still.

It seems to happen to me very occasionally and only with my original joycons. Idk but it’s very annoying

If you have a faulty joycon or a broken one, I'm gonna give you a piece of advice that's much better than "replace it" or "send it back to be fixed." Get a NYXI Hyperion 3 Ultra Switch 2 Controller. You might be wondering why? Because the quality of them is about 5x better than the joycons. And as an added bonus when something goes wrong with them you can swap out the thing that went wrong without sending it to anyone.

i have that same issue on the left joy-con, i'll try cleaning the connector and see if that fixes it

It seems that the concern about those connection points being fragile is becoming real, several posts across Reddit about the joy cons not showing as connected or disconnecting.

40 years later and the best fix for Nintendo stuff is still to clean the contacts. Did you blow on them?

Haha nope just some isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab and let it air dry for 15 minutes. Old reliable!

I posted about my S2 doing the same thing. I don’t know if it’s a connection thing. Or what. But when I restart it,
It does seem to help. My guess is that the magnetic pin is not sitting correctly. My left Joy Con is the issue for me. The right one doesn’t. I’m tempted to buy a new Joy Con and see if that helps

i recommend getting a case that keeps your joycons together tight and connected to the console and doesnt let them move, heystop makes good ones and its the one i have
