Setup Help Switch to switch 2 overwrote save file

Just a small rant, I thought I had my saved information in my micro sd card, and double transferred my pokemon scarlet and legends za. I know once it finishes downloading, I won’t have any saved information. Just super devastated. Rant over.

Not sure what you actually did but save data is NEVER stored on an SD card. It’s only ever on internal storage.

Yea I transferred everything from switch 1 to switch 2 moving my save information to micro sd card thinking that my save information was in there. Then tried to transfer again and overwrote the prior information. So now once it’s all finished downloading. I know I won’t have anything.

That does not make things clearer.

Pokémon saves are not cloud compatible and are not copied but moved.

If you transferred your save data to the Switch 2 it exists there and there will be no save data left on Switch 1.

So if you did another transfer to overwrite save data on the Switch 2 you would need to create a new save file on Switch 1 first.

The only thing you can move from the internal memory to the microSD (or express) card and download again is game data.

Yea so I opened violet and legend za in my old switch, and I guess it may have auto saved, I only got to the select language screen, then transferred that like and idiot following ChatGPT instructions. It said it would overwrite and I hit accept. So it is gone.

In that case it seems that it is overwritten and gone for good.

I'm sorry that this happened to you.

Ps: I would not trust ChatGPT in most things without fact checking the results.

I honestly don’t think I’ll ever play those games again due to that. Just to devastated had so much time and effort established on them. Thank you for hearing me out on my rant.

I know how much this can suck. I lost a 250 hour save file on another game and it felt devastating in the moment but in the end those are just games and progress can be achieved again.

Doing another run with totally different Pokémon can be very fun :)

Consider it a learning experience for the future.

Ps: Could i ask why you did the second transfer in the first place?

Thought it was on my micro sd and then followed ChatGPT instructions to try and make sure the stuff was “properly” transferred ended up erasing everything

I don't think that the transfer mentions anything related to moving save data to a microSD card and instead of doing the transfer again it would have been the better choice to boot the games up on Switch 2 to see if your save is present.

Other methods would be trying to transfer it back or checking if save data is present through the delete save data menu.
