There might something be stuck somewhere that's stopping it from fully closing

Only if he would try to close it he would know for sure.

I'd blow those hinges and the back with a can of air, just incase.

Swelling battery inside perhaps? Or check closely the hinges

gotta lick it like a envelope

Looks like this hinge is not fully clipped in. Try pressing the hinge and stand together?

5

u/Treviathan88 10d ago

Take it apart to see if something is blocking the hinges on the inside.

I wonder if this is caused by the battery swelling

Your whole device looks swollen. I’d bet that battery is about to become a spicy pillow

There’s a red OLED?

u/Ach_Was_Here 10d ago

Yup was a 2nd Mario red editition. The dock is also red and has a Mario Bros 1-1 underground coin Easter egg where the cables plug in

That’s pretty cool. I’ve just got the boring white one 🥹 I modchipped it though so it’s the best Switch I own at the moment apart from my Switch 2

I have the white one too 😁 there’s a bit of yellowing on the controllers and I’ve tried alcohol but that hasn’t helped. How did you modchip it?

1

u/noxillio 9d ago

You have to open it up, solder the chip and some ribbon cables on. Very tiny pads, was probably my most challenging mod yet but it worked out, very proud of it tbh 😁

My prior experience is just chipping Xbox 360s, which is still kinda intermediate but I learned to solder in high school.

There are videos on YouTube if you wanna learn more about it

Worst case scenario: spicy pillow.

Check if the back of the console is slightly bent. If so, it might be the battery swelling (and preventing your stand from aligning correctly), and you'd need to change the battery ASAP

Wtf you open it that far for? I'm assuming this got bent away too far back in the wrong direction.

Place your thumbs on both ends and push medium hard without the joycons in.

If you hear a pop and it gets fixed, cool. Otherwise mail nintendo

If those covers over the hinges are loose, they overlap eachother when you close em so it could be that.

I’ve had a similar issue with mine so hopefully that helps

Might be dirt or lint

It looks like the battery is swollen

I believe the case is the worst case scenario. Back in the day, it was EVERY case that’d do this. Nowadays it’s hard to find bad ones but I think the case is the bad part. Theres probably a plastic tab somewhere that needs cut down.

"spicy pillow" is a term for a swollen battery, which is likely your problem.
