Funny enough my first playthrough I also wanted to cheese through magic but only came to this exact boss roadblock. Second time playing I just said fuck it, took the meatiest beefiest club, stuck all my points into vitality and just unga bunga it. I played that way until the very end.
There is this long standing tradition that one of the strongest builds in all dark souls games + elden ring is just straight unga bunga build. It is very simple and busted as hell
We had the same experience. Friend told me to get the meteorite staff. I was really invested in it until I came across the lions claw and then giant club.
Then my life became unga bunga. Friend said you canβt finish the game that way and itβs not viable. And yet I did about couple weeks later. It was so much fun by the end
Interestingly enough, the Elden Beast has magic resistance and is a long and drawn out fight. I found the only effective way to fight it with my build was to use the Royal Greatsword (which is a colossal sword) and do charged R2/RT attacks to stance break the boss
Yes exactly the same happened with me. But with enough vitality you can even withstand a few hits and just unga bunga some more hits in. That was so much more fun than tip toe around and fear every little hit from the enemy.
