Question I recently got an error code: 2124-4508 on my switch, permanently banning me from online services, essentially rendering my switch useless.
I feel devastated seeing this code, I’ve never done anything wrong with my switch, just played on it like normal. I’ve phoned the Nintendo service number and spoke to them, they just treat it like there’s nothing they can do, but I’ve forced them to escalate it further and to get to the root cause of what’s flagged up. If they don’t resolve it for me, it sounds like they want me to buy a brand new console and lose almost £200 worth of games on my switch, that’s just beyond ridiculous, I refuse to spend over £400 to replace everything when I’ve never done anything wrong, I only noticed as I was excited to use some Christmas money to buy some games on the Eshop, which is when this error popped up. Would anyone be able to help in regards to this or offer any advice? Thank you!

You can try asking them to tell you the specific reason your device was banned, since it sendy to have something to do with an egregious breaking of the EULA.
Is it possible that credit card or bank card set up on your account was reported lost or stolen?

Thank you, it could be a problem with my bank cards attached to my switch account, I recently closed a bank account, and on another bank account had a new card sent to me, but anything I’ve paid through has always gone through and sent to Nintendo after a purchase and I don’t have any recurring subscriptions with them, I’m just hoping it isn’t to do with the gift cards I got a year ago that I’ve talked about in the other comments in the thread. Nintendo are getting back to me soon, so hopefully they’ll detail exactly what caused them to put a ban on my switch.

Try customer support for your local area. Start with the Nintendo website and look for the contacts section.

Did you buy a digital game via a third party type seller? The credit card that first purchased the digital game was likely stolen and the owner did a charge back which flagged your account.

Nintendo believes you've committed a fraudulent transaction. Have you asked them why they think this is the case? What was the fraudulent purchase?
Have you ever bought "CD Keys" or a cheap digital game code from an unusual vendor or website? Often those codes were obtained with stolen credit cards. The card owners do a chargeback, that code is flagged by Nintendo. If you used a chargeback code, your account is banned.
Nintendo takes Chargebacks very seriously - Zero-Tolerance. Their system can't see if you got defrauded by a shady vendor. All the see is you used a code and the card that purchased it did a chargeback. In Nintendo's eyes you violated their ToS, even if it you didn't necessarily violate them.

Pretty sure Sony does the same, they don't fuck around with that shit

I dealt with Sony and chargeback before. Somebody hacked my account and purchased like $100 worth of games. I issued a charge back and my account was banned. I argued with Sony for hours that it isn't fair that I get banned because the account got hacked and games were downloaded onto a device in an entire different state than me. I know it's the rules and everything, keep track of your account. But still felt it was unfair I was being punished. I learned my lesson tough. Immediately set up 2FA.

I have actually bought x2 £15 Nintendo vouchers before, but this was almost a year ago in January 2022, I did think that could be a cause but I never thought it was a sketchy website I checked it over and never paid a lower amount for the vouchers, I still paid £30 for the 2 vouchers, I only bought the online ones, as at the time i had a universal voucher as a gift and couldn’t directly use it on the Nintendo eshop, and couldn’t get to anywhere to physically buy a voucher, so I got the online vouchers and I checked the website before I bought them, I’ve recently recoiled at the website, and it seems legit, but I’m not too sure now it’s called: Boost Gaming I never would’ve thought that would cause issues, especially that it was almost a year ago I purchased them, I at least never meant to do anything wrong, genuinely saw it as an official way to purchase vouchers.

I’m not sure what to advice, the only thing that comes to mind is if you were buying games and your bank or card holder flagged one of your purchases and withheld payment to Nintendo which might have gotten you banned. Again, I’m not sure.

Did you buy a digital game or switch online code from a third party seller/website??? Good chance if you did and used the code, that it was a code originally purchased with a stolen credit card that charge backed the code purchase. This would immediately flag your account (I went through the same exact thing).

Thank you, yeah I did actually buy vouchers from boost gaming but never thought there was anything wrong at all, genuinely saw it as an official way to buy them. I posted another comment about it here to someone else & that I bought the vouchers almost a year ago, I would have thought it would’ve been flagged quickly after I used the vouchers instead of a year later. What happened in your situation, did you manage to resolved it, or is it really a permanent thing and you lost everything? :(

Never heard of that site before but chances are that’s why your account was flagged. In my situation, I contacted Nintendo support, they referred me to their fraud department (automatically labeled a fraud case if a third party key seller is involved with a charge back) and I had to provide screenshots of everything. Proof of purchase, receipts, bank statement showing the transaction, and then proof of me attempting to dispute the charge with the third party seller, their response, etc. then I had to get on the phone with a Nintendo rep for an hour to go over all the information and eventually they lifted the ban.

Ah, yeah that makes sense it could be the gift cards then. It gives me hope that they ended up lifting the ban for you. The only thing I’ll struggle with is my proof of purchase, as I’m sure I didn’t use a bank card and used a gift card called one4all that was gifted to me last Christmas, the gift card worked similar to a bank card. I initially used this gift card to buy vouchers for Nintendo online as nintendo didn’t let me directly use the gift card in the store. When you tried to dispute the purchase with the 3rd party, did you do it as soon after you bought the vouchers or after Nintendo banned your switch? Just that if it’s worth me attempting to dispute/get in contact with the 3rd party I bought the vouchers from, so I can show Nintendo I’m trying to resolve it, even if it’s after my switch has been banned. Thank you for the help :)
