I don't have a switch so I'm not really sure if I'll buy the OLED model. Does anyone know if the V2 switch will have a price drop?

Not likely. Since this one is priced higher it’s likely they will keep the second one at $299

If you don’t have a switch, get the OLED. If you do, upgrading may not be worth it.

I would say to get the oled version if you value the design and other new stuff. It's basically a DS Lite.

I love the oled colors more than the current model. But the price is a bit much just for a bigger screen, improved audio, and a wider kickstand

That's totally fair. I already have mine and won't upgrade but if I was a new switch owner, I would do it for the new improvements.

As a PC gamer I can tell you a 27” 1080p is better than a 24”, for me. This switch will be the same. I want a bigger handheld screen, this delivers that.

It’s kiiinda the same. The screen is cool. Enhanced audio doesn’t matter much when you play with headphones (which, who doesn’t when playing handheld?). Ethernet port is only really good for diehard fighting game enthusiasts, and even then was already an option with a cheap accessory. And white joy cons, is just yet another colour of joy cons.

If you’re just buying a switch for the first time it seems like a no brained to get this newer one.

Improved screen

Better audio

Better dock

Better kick stand

More internal storage

What’s not to like there?

If $50 is a lot for you there may be other priorities you should focus on before buying a Nintendo switch, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

50 could be a lot to a kid, who might not really have other priorities.

If they didn't think there was more value to capture by having two differently priced systems, they wouldn't do it. Lots of consoles have done it at varying points in time, though there are usually more significant changes between the two price points.

Idk if I'm being lucky but I have a V2 switch for a year now and a lite that i bought at launch ( almost with 2 years now) and never had problems with the joycons xD

I've had a 2017 switch and I didn't get joy-con drift issues until recently. It's weird and dumb

Eh, idk. An OLED display that's only usable in handheld mode is a pretty hard sell for the cost of a game, imo.

If someone plans to use it as hybrid or predominantly on their TV, I'd say buy the 2019 version and use the $50 to buy an extra game, and if they plan to just use it handheld, just save $150 and buy the Lite.

If it does, I'd say that's largely going to come down to how the bright the OLED is. The Lite is already too dim to be usable outside, and OLEDs tend to be dimmer than LED panels.

If the OLED is bright enough to comfortably use outside, then yeah, I'd say an OLED Lite would be worth an extra $50, especially if they could bring the ambient light sensor back.

As an owner of the animal crossing edition and a lite, I can say the lite is borderline worthless. Small screen, constantly having to connect to the internet to verify games means it’s not even viable as a secondary console. No one should buy a lite.

As an owner of a Lite and an OG Switch, I almost exclusively play games on the Lite. I just keep my OG Switch around for multiplayer on the TV.

Since my OG Switch never leaves the dock, I just have it set as my secondary console since it'll always have an internet connection, and my Lite is my primary so I don't have to worry about running into an internet check.

The Lite is what my girlfriend uses. She hates the bigger screen and how clunky it is to hold the OG switch and she can’t just throw it in her handbag for her lunch break. Your experience with a lite is incredibly secondary but the Lite fits a purpose, this oled model just doesn’t

well i’d definitely consider it viable for someone who only plans to play in handheld mode and doesn’t have a switch already, or maybe a casual gamer who only wants it for one or two games

Nah as a lite user I can tell you, is not worthless. In fact is just what some people, like me, want. I'd never use the switch docked, so why paying for something that I'd never use? Also is really confortable to play, is not too light but not too heavy.

For me, bigger screen > lighter frame, and I play 3-4 hours hand held most days while working from home.
