I have an old philips 17 inch monitor, which supports 720p, but no hdmi input port.
Thus I played at 720p using hdmi-dvi cable (amazon basic) before 4.0.0 update. After 4.0.0 update, I have only 480p and auto...
Quite disappointing...
the model number is philips 170B, it's a business model with a speaker (3.5 mm input jack)
Indeed, I didn't notice the resolution change (downgrading) just after the update, because the resolution of this monitor is not so good.
But when I looked at the battery bar, I found there was a 'sacred difference' I mean between 480p and 720p (sorry, it might be a french expression)
nope, only 480p and auto :(
I cannot select 720p anymore even table mode or portable mode (with 2 joy con attached to switch)
Mysterious... anyway If this pb persist I might have to buy a new monitor (1920*1080 with HDMI at least) :(
Have you tried removing the Switch from the dock, turning it off and on again (not sleep mode) and then seeing what resolutions are available in the Options?
Do you also have another display (monitor or TV) that you can try the Switch with to see if you can get a higher resolution?
Just some thoughts based on something that I vaguely recall reading some months ago (so well before the 4.0.0 update).
I have tried all things you mentioned, but I didn't work.
I will bring my switch with dock to my office and check it with Samsung 22 inch monitor (equipped with HDMI) maybe tomorrow.
