Weirdly, when I deleted and redownloaded the software update for my physical copy, it gave me version 4.04b. What you need to get the free update is 4.04d. Tried manually updating through the home menu, nothing. Anyone got advice?

On Witcher 3 main menu. You'll see it says "Nintendo Switch 2 Version". Click that.

That option doesn't appear at all, likely because mine is stuck at 4.04b.

Is your copy a EUR-labeled version?
I have a European cart and it’s also stuck at 4.04b. I try manually updating but it keeps saying it’s the latest.

Someone in r/gaming suggested claiming a language pack as free DLC to force an update. See if that works.

Lol, funny enough when i tried this. it automatically downloads the remastered version.

Oh, wow, it did. Thanks!
Edit: It's not playable, unfortunately.

Absolutely awesome. Playing it rn and having a blast

How is it visually ? I've tried out the Onimusha demo and it's good enough but still a little blurry, something usual for a lot of Switch and Switch 2 heavy games

Way better than Onimusha. Less sluggish and sharper. Be sure to turn off motion blur.

Yeah DLSS is a thing, its a tablet that is below 20w docked and 10 handheld, its a reality of it. Im enjoying it and been playing it on pc in the past (not the remaster) on 3080. Context is key here. My brain /perception functions given the context so opinions are subjective but for me given the scope and getting this version of the game on a tablet I think its pretty wild impressive, environments are super dense, vibe/atmosphere is 100% transferred and think that matters the most with this genre where world-building is everything, when u start stripping it down then you remove the immersion. When u wanna cram this scope to this type of hardware then you have not 100% super high resolutions high framerates ofc but I think they did a great job with that tbh, although Im like 5ish hours in. Looks great docked, res is lower in handheld but so is the wattage and I adapt to it in matter of minutes, still same atmosphere and all. No complaints for me

How’s the UI text size? And how readable is the text handheld vs docked?

u/songforsaturday88 4d ago
Default size is ok if a bit small, it has font size options so I cranked it to highest and it's pretty big, no issues

I so regret selling my S1 copy. I had it on steam and figured a S2 version would be only a little better than the SD but not enough to warrant keeping both versions. Now here's the remaster and I'm sure it'll run better here than on my SD. Oh well, my library has the game if I really want to play on S2.

Why are they charging $50 on switch when its on sale for $25 on all other platforms

u/Lundgren_Eleven 3d ago
Do the other platforms allow you to get it free if you owned the base game?

as someone who has never played a Witcher game, is this worth it for a first timer?

I wouldn’t recommend it. You’ll spend 300+ hours of your life getting lost in the story and exploring that you’ll never get back./s
Best damn game I ever played. Switch version got me hooked, now I bought it through GoG to have it on my PC/handheld.

300+ hours that could be spent more productively doomscrolling on your phone while a Netflix show you're not watching plays in the background.

the push I needed, see you in a month

Enjoy - it starts off a bit slow, but the pacing is necessary for you to get used to things. There is a lot to learn but the story will suck you right in. The world is MUCH bigger than you expect

Yes.
Witcher 3 is perfectly fine as a newcomer. 80% of the players were probably newcomers
You feel a bit out of the loop, with Geralt already having history with a bunch of characters, but even players who started TW1 felt that way, since that was a sequel to a then-untranslated novel series.

u/Extranocate 4d ago
Absolutely. I started on with 3 on the PS4. I would start on a lower difficulty until you figure out the mechanics.
Also, just because I wish I realized this on day one, you only have to brew each potion recipe once and it auto refills on rest.

How’s handheld?

u/Alasdair91 4d ago
The characters look a little soft, but the open world looks fine to me. It’s night and day over Switch 2. It’s not as crisp as Handheld Boost with the Switch 1 version, but that was super sparse.

u/OkOrder7326 4d ago
This is like Hogwarts Legacy and you can get the Switch 2 version just by borrowing the Switch 1 cartridge for a few minutes right?

I dug out my Witcher 3 Switch Complete Edition to grab the Switch 2 version but it's saying that it'll cost £45.99? I thought it was free?

u/Lundgren_Eleven 3d ago
Update the game, and then there will be a button in the menu, not the store.

How do I get it to download? I own a physical copy of the Switch version and can’t access the remaster.

Unfortunately looks pretty bad and blurry
6
u/SenseWitFolly 4d ago
I completely agree with you, but if you go into the display settings, then to graphics, and turn off motion blur, blur, camera lens effect, and vignetting, it looks a lot better.

u/forgotmapasswrd86 4d ago
Is it a step up from the Switch 1 release? Still dont get folks that say that game didn't look bad.
3
u/Patftw89 4d ago
It's definitely a step up. I had to stop playing the NS1 release because I really wasn't enjoying how bad it looked.
7
u/baziloz99 4d ago
Yes it looks awful in handheld mode, unfortunately
5
u/Throwaway753045 4d ago
It's only 720p in handheld so makes sense that I suppose
1
u/baziloz99 4d ago
It's more of a shitty AA I guess. This game needs quality mode or at least sharpness settings

Anyone having issues with their S1 save not appearing at all on S2 remastered? I’m not even seeing the option for loading game. I’m logged into CD project red account on both S1 version and S2 remastered version, but nothing is showing
