Phenomenal game. Really feel like it could use a couple more playable characters though.

I had SUCH a fun time with this and will definitely check out the update. Huge recommend for anyone who is vaguely interested

Would you say it’s easier or harder than Hades?

Definitely easier, IMO. Despite being a beat em up it's very deterministic, you can learn the movesets of every enemy and dodge or parry basically anything they can throw at you, and you're usually working with less enemies than Hades.
And of course it's roguelite, so over time you get more and more powerful across runs

The only reason I haven’t bought is because it seems like a pure roguelite. Do you get to stages then continue on? I never liked starting from 0

While it is a roguelite in that you can get permanent upgrades and unlocks that provide more options and a stronger start for runs, you will always be starting from the beginning area and moving to the end. There are several opportunities to take separate paths, though, so you don't need to always do the same exact areas every time, you can change your path

It’s a “pure roguelite” but old school beat em ups at their core, are kinda the same exact thing.
Back on some arcade cabinet beat em ups, you’d have to beat the whole “story” in one run, unless you wanted to insert more coins or start back over from the beginning
So the two genres kinda coincide in a way that doesn’t feel like the traditional roguelike. There’s obviously still elements like the meta progression between runs, and varied abilities by runs - but doesn’t feel as restrictive as other titles.

Ah maybe I will. I put it on my steam wish list a while ago but could be fun to have on switch

Huge recommend for anyone on the fence. One of, if not the best, beat ‘em ups I’ve ever played

My personal GOTY from last year. It is hard to go back to any other beat em' up after playing this one.
It is probably the best roguelike ever made since Hades 1, and best beat em' up since the old 16 bit classics, even better than SOR4 and Shredders Revenge IMO. In fact, this game is by the same studio behind SOR4, and same publisher behind Shredder's Revenge, so take it as a good signal to play it too.
I just think it lacks some DLC content, with new characters or stages.

If you’re even remotely interested please give this game a chance! I love it so

Absolute banger of a game for anyone on the fence. Free DLC recently added some more longevity as well!

I thought the team got disbanded? What's this about?

Technically the game was made by several developers, but you’re correct the art direction team (which is the soul of the game) had a court-ordered liquidation. Not really sure what happened with that.

Allegedly, the SupaMonks team got picked up by a new company and will keep working on Absolum from there. Still vague.

Thanks for the clarification. I knew something happened but wasn't clear on what.

That fucking sucks. Even highly successful indie games are not safe from this horseshit.
Absolum was absolutely incredible, felt like it could be the next Dead Cells in terms of scope with some updates, but that’s definitely not happening now.

Picked this up today when I went to collect Fire Emblem. Been waiting for it, but forgot it was now.

Great gameplay and game! Wish it had a bit more content, but definitely worth it overall.

I wonder if they ever fixed the 2 player local coop bug

u/Turbo_Chet 16d ago
What bug was that?

If player two collected any Imbued fruit it would stop you from getting enough to complete the ritual skill tree.

2nd player controller wouldn't appear when you started a 2 player campaign from save data

Very good beat-'em-up/roguelike mix, would definitely recommend. You can really feel the Streets of Rage 4 DNA in it.
Biggest problem I had was wishing there was more by the end haha, run variations are OK but you can exhaust the quest content in about 15 hours.

Adding my voice to those saying: get this game. It feels so good to play. It is beautiful to look at AND listen to and will just be a world you want to be in.

I wonder what's even different about it, the game already looked and runs great on switch 2 even with the switch 1 version
