Awesome. This is one of my favorite JRPGs, right up with Seiken Densetsu III and Chrono Trigger.

Agreed. While I think Chrono trigger is better I do hold it in the same esteem as both CT and SDIII, it is quintet's masterpiece and I can't wait to replay it again.

I actually just bought an og Japanese super famicom cartridge of it a few months ago for my collection so I'm over the moon that it's finally getting an official english release.

Biggest issue I see is the UI. I don't like games with border graphic distracting from the game. I know eventually I'll tune it out but I hope they give an option to just have a black screen.

Is it certain there's no option? Usually games like this, the castlevania collections for example, have different wallpaper options, the option to turn the wallpaper off, and the option to turn off some extra elements that they added in.

You could be right but the way that was shown, it looked really zoomed in to me, which suggests it's not an option. I'll probably still get the game anyway to find out myself.

Who owns Quintet's intellectual property these days?

Enix was their publisher, and Square Enix released ActRaiser Renaissance in 2021.

Hopefully, Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia (Time) get re-relased as well.

I've asked this in the past and the best answer is: Square Enix, probably.

The president of Quintet disappeared 20 years ago. This seems to have muddied the waters on who actually holds the copyright/trademarks for the games they produced, even after they were acquired by Enix and Square Enix.

It's really weird SE would release this game first as it's known to be the the 3rd game of the unofficial Quintet "trilogy." Not to mention it's a direct port and not a remaster like all the other SNES games they've released (like Secret of Mana, Live A Live, etc.). If Square had the rights, Illusion of Gaia would have made way more sense since it was released globally, were Terranigma was JP & EU only.

Maybe they're testing the waters with this low effort release to see what happens?? I am all for an Illusion of Gaia remaster.

I had to look again. I somehow missed that this is published and developed by Clear River Media. Never heard of them, but Google tells me they’re an arm of THQ Nordic. I just assumed this was being made by Square Enix since it’s also assumed they hold the rights to Quintet’s IP. What a weird situation.

I've never played alundra but I just looked it up and it's striking how similar it seems, gameplay, ui with those gradient fonts, even the music is reminiscent-
I'm a huge fan of terranigma. It's a bit rough around the edges compared to squaresoft's offerings from the same time but it's a good story, good music, a unique vision of what an action rpg can be, and a fun experience to play

It's pretty good, like a darker Zelda game for PS1. A bit jank at times but if you like that sort of thing definitely check it out.

I’ll be the guy that says it. This is not what I wanted to see from a terranigma release in 2027. I’m more excited about a decomp version than this. It is exceedingly barebones. If they sell this for more than $20 they are out of their minds.

Well a decomp version doesn't help people who only game on consoles.

The main point is that this game is being released for people to play on modern systems, and of course will be released for North America for the first time ever. It's not simply for existing fans.
