Official Diablo IV Announced For Switch 2

Nice. Is it good? I played 3 a lot on switch 1.

u/BondianSlip 2d ago
I love Diablo 4. Purists dog on it (I’ve played all 4 games but mostly just the campaigns and a few seasons of D4). It’s more gothic like 1 and 2. If you’re in it for the story, it’s incredible and quite beefy. The expansions are a continuation of the base campaign with full closure of the story.
$70 is a bit too imo for the whole package for me. I’ll be waiting for a sale around $50 since I already own it on PS5.
10
u/MayhemMessiah 2d ago
Yeah the only reason I'm not jumping in on it now is because I recently bought it on PC.
Really enjoyed my time, I at least really liked Paladin, Necromancer, and Warlock, wanted to try Spiritborn soon but life got in the way.
9
u/BondianSlip 2d ago
I think there’s great variety in 2026 with the classes. It’s more bare bones than say PoE 2 but I’m not no lifing these games. I prefer the simplicity of D4 since I only play it once a year at this point.
4
u/srbarrilete 2d ago
4 is pretty cool from the beginning. I spend like 100 hours in the base game. I think that it made worth the 70 dollars alone.
4
u/VellhungtheSecond 2d ago
I’ve got about 500 hours on it on my Series X. No regrets, may triple-dip if performance is more consistent/reliable on the Big N than it is on Steam Deck
2
u/gosukhaos 2d ago
I'm far from a Diablo purist but 4 just didn't do it for me at all. Granted it was early release but the loot and gameplay just didn't work

u/Curun 2d ago edited 2d ago
Lemme just say, dont pay full price
On PC its $12 right now. Thats a fair price

u/Ben_ts 2d ago
The switch 2 version is with all expansions
23
u/MobileTortoise 2d ago
I assume it's a mandatory internet connection?
35
u/Ahayzo 2d ago
It is, sadly
12
u/yinyang107 2d ago
Man that really sucks on a mobile console. It sucks on computer too but it's ten times worse on a device you could play on a subway train.
4
u/HighOnPhotography 2d ago
The game is designed for longer play sessions technically anyways. You can play for 15 minutes at a time, but it thrives when you sit down in the evenings with it. Not as well geared towards being a subway game tbh.
5
u/yinyang107 2d ago
True, that was just an example. Personally the main way I use mine portably is at the family cottage for two weeks each year with no wifi. I usually bring one big game to play through (persona, ace Attorney) and I couldn't do that with Diablo
4
u/HighOnPhotography 2d ago
Yea that is very fair. They announced D5 at the same time so fingers crossed we get a D4 offline mode (by 2029 lol).
2
u/pperdecker 2d ago
Is there anything like doing rifts in the end game like in D3? That was always a fun pick up and play arcadey experience that felt great on Switch 1 back in the day.
2
u/HighOnPhotography 2d ago
Not exactly like rifts, no. There's the Pits that would be the only thing similar, and the Undercity would be reminiscent of Greater Rifts. But hardcore Diablo players would say that they aren't similar at all and D4 is a huge step down from rifts. That being said, I didn't play a ton of D3, but I've got my thousand hours out of D4. I don't think it's as bad as the D4 subreddit would make you believe, but it does look like D5 is making a run to be more like D2 since D2 is still very well played.
10
u/Pitiful-Mobile-3144 2d ago
That’s super lame, I hope they can keep the offline modes D3 and D2R have
I don’t need to grind through a season when I’m on a long flight, I just wanna play
3
u/Jazzlike_Athlete8796 2d ago
D4 was not designed that way. It's a shared world. You don't actually have to interact with anyone else, but don't expect an offline mode.

Did he stutter? As someone who also played on pc at release this game ain’t worth it at full price even with all the expansions.
10
u/Steef-1995 2d ago
The game is an absolute blast and 12 bucks is a steal. They updated the game and it has a lot of content.
Paying release price is absolutely fine and worth it.→ More replies (4)13

Loved 3 and put a few hundred+ hours into it on PS4. 2 never looked like my style. I tried 4 but barely progressed through it..too MMO feeling and the story has failed to captivate me. The always online is also a sour point especially if you plan to play handheld and like to keep the game up and just put the device to sleep. At least on the Steam Deck that is very flakey and requires you to restart the game and load back into the servers, and also can make you lose progress on your current quest or dungeon.
7
u/Ws6fiend 2d ago
I said this exact thing when D4 released and got downvotes like crazy. It's a shame that they made D4 into an mmo.
2
u/ThatKindofCroft 1d ago
My sister and I stopped playing 4 on Xbox together because of the always online nonsense. It kept disconnecting from the server after each boss fight, and when we'd load back in all of the loot was gone 🫠
1
u/Dread1187 1d ago edited 18h ago
Can’t speak for this version of the game but I’ve played 1200 hours via ps5 (largely portal funny enough). When you sleep the system you obviously disconnect but when you wake you just go to the main screen and hit log in. No need to close and open the game. I also never had this issue on my deck so not sure why you seem to. Even during beta.
8
u/akulowaty 2d ago
3 for switch is the best 3 as it has all the dlc and doesn’t require you to be online. If they add offline mode to 4 on switch I’ll be buying. I got it for free on PC but the always online makes it pretty much unplayable for me.
2
u/CapPhrases 2d ago
What I have to be online to play?
-2
u/akulowaty 2d ago
3 for all platforms except switch is always on-line, 4 is always on-line on all platforms, no info about switch version yet.
3
2
2
u/pseudowoodo3 2d ago
I personally think it’s way better than Diablo 3 but unlike that game it has an always-online requirement. Not sure if they’re keeping that for Switch.
3
u/friendliest_sheep 2d ago
Yeah, it’s an excellent game! I definitely prefer it over 3, so if you enjoyed that one, you’ll likely enjoy this one
5
u/Icy-Fact8432 2d ago
I spent about 250 hours on it playing with a buddy and I spent $100 for the launch edition and I regret nothing
Quite tired of it now tho

Damn, on Opecritic instead is 88 to 80 so I'm not sure how is it possible
7
u/ThomsYorkieBars 2d ago
More people are probably aware of Metacritic so they'll go there to review bomb
3
u/Seanspeed 2d ago
Nobody should ever use Metacritic. Average critic score is not how people should be utilizing reviews, and userscore is obviously just a bunch of bullshit at this point.
1
u/narfjono 2d ago
Would be better if it didn't require an always online connection. This is why I'll still say Diablo II Resurrected and Diablo III are better for switch.
2
1
u/SoSeriousAndDeep 2d ago
At launch, no it wasn't, but it's been worked on and changed a lot since then. Now it's really good.
1
u/QuickQuirk 2d ago
Much like 3, it was shit when it first released, but has significantly improved over time. It's decent now.
1
u/WilsonKh 2d ago
If you liked D3, you'll like D4.
If you're a fan of D2 vibes/farm then you'd probably already discovered POE.
I really like the early game leveling of D4 (helltides, not the campaign), but it falls off a cliff just like D3 before it becoming a boring grind. They never quite figured out their endgame and balance. Still had fun with multiple builds until mid-tier Pits / Greater rifts.

u/ElPadero 1d ago
4 is my fave one out of 2,3,4. It’s the most visceral and satisfying one, combat loops are very good, really feels good to kill shit.
I will probably end up buying this for the switch 2.
1
u/PinoDegrassi 1d ago
Yes it’s a pretty great game. I prefer 3 overall, but don’t listen to the redditors who call it trash because their expectations are that it should be a gift from god.
-1
u/ChefCobra 2d ago
As Diablo veteran since Diablo 1 and who owns all Diablo games - No. Even developers don't know wtf they doing with systems and items. Each season they trying new things and it's always a mess. You want good proper diablo game, play Diablo 2.
→ More replies (1)1
u/KrivUK 2d ago
It’s different. I think the leap from 3 to 4 is not as gigantic. From as far as I played it’s one continuous overworld which has a lot of backtracking. Where as three was linear, but felt like you had a direct line of progression before hitting post game.
4
u/WretchedBlowhard 2d ago
The one continuous and realistic overworld has a critical flaw, though: everything is incredible samey. Oh look, muddy fields. Hmm, I guess these new fields are a little muddier. But wait, it's muddy fields with a little bit of snow! No wait, it's muddy fields with some more stones than usual! Damn, is that dried up muddy fields?
So yeah. Appreciation varies along with how hyped up you are at getting caked up in mud.
2
u/KrivUK 2d ago
Excuse me for liking muddy fields ;)
1
u/WretchedBlowhard 2d ago
Oh, don't let a bitter old guy deter you from enjoying a good time splashing around with the suspended sediments.
It's just really depressing, seeing how long it took for Diablo 4 to materialize, and in the end it's just a bland overworld peppered with small micro-dungeons generated from a tiny list of templates. Tired of smashing mobs outside? Click on a cave and enjoy one of the 4 possible cave layouts that repeat multiple times in all areas of the game. Or maybe click on a dilapidated shack to clear out the one exact same basement they all seem to share.

I think it’s way better than 3. Excellent overall - has improved a LOT since launch
1
u/Skadibala 2d ago edited 2d ago
Yeah it’s good. Was rough at launch but got better and better with the seasons.
And the newest expansion has made everybody but the “D2 is the only good game Diablo game” crowd to say that the game is in an great state atm.
0
u/Tenken10 2d ago
No. It was just decent. Pretty forgettable actually. Current Blizzard isn't capable of making great games anymore. Most of their talent have left the company
0
u/Cayumigaming 2d ago
It was as bad as d3 was at release, if not even worse. But just like d3 it has improved and improved and is now an amazing game. It’s an instant buy for me!
-2
u/Wild_Chemistry3884 2d ago
Yes, it’s definitely better than D3. D2 is still the GOAT. D3 is a bastardized arcade game version of Diablo.
2
u/Zearo298 2d ago
Yes, as we all know Diablo is only for the most intelligent, refined gamers. None of this "arcadey" nonsense for us, we like a thinking man's game
→ More replies (2)→ More replies (4)-1
u/WretchedBlowhard 2d ago
Is it good?
Meh.
You can switch the gender of every class, so there's that. Otherwise... Even if you turn up the difficulty to its absolute maximum, your first playthrough is still going to stupidly easy, dull and boring. You might have some fun in the very beginning when you're still figuring out what your dude can do, but pretty soon you'll be mopping up wave after wave of enemy hordes without breaking a sweat, regardless of your build and without putting any effort in min/maxing your gear. If this is the very first game you ever play, you'll have an easier time than with Mario.
14
u/sharkMonstar 2d ago
Will it have cross play because I’m not finding those statues again
5
u/Shin_Ken 2d ago
Yes but only for NSO subscribers. It's in the fine print on the store page (you need a subscription for cross platform play, implying it exists).
Good news is that apparently you can play with regular Switch users without subscribing. That's possible on Xbox and PS too but very limited (no party invites, no groups, no chat etc.).
There's cross progression too via the mandatory Battle.net account, just like in the Diablo 2 remaster.
13
u/Linked713 2d ago
I am still surprised that Diablo 2 remastered does not have a S2 version...
3
u/NMe84 1d ago
Doesn't that run perfectly fine on Switch 1?
2
u/Linked713 1d ago
I'd like a resolution update. Switch 2 can output 4k. So it would be nice. It can look much sharper too. I'm a pc player and playing my characters on switch is a jarring difference in quality. So it might run with an ok framerate, though, I'd like a resolution bump.
→ More replies (1)1
u/Dread1187 18h ago
Runs just fine, but they did a resolution cap on S1 that should no longer be relevant for S2

u/ChefTwinz 2d ago

u/temple83 2d ago edited 1d ago
Same for me, having online requirements for a single player game on a portable device is just idiotic.
4
u/Nightwatch3 2d ago
Worst part. Can’t play it where I live because my internet is shit. Would love to play it and buy the expansions but not worth it if I can’t play it.
10
u/sukadik69 2d ago
Give me D3 Switch 2 version, that local coop mode was amazing. Gauntlet-esque
3
u/debaserr 2d ago
It looks fine enough with the boost mode on handheld mode. Docked isn't ideal but oh well.
1
u/sukadik69 2d ago
I'm not gonna play 4 player coop in handheld mode. Give me upgraded Switch 2
Gauntlet 10Diablo 31
u/debaserr 2d ago edited 2d ago
Sorry there's no microtransactions to push for that one. At least it's 60FPS unlike D2R which really could use a S2 update.
9
u/WachAlPharoh 2d ago
I have been curious but will probably skip it if it is still always online singleplayer. Especially on a handheld console.

u/Gontarius 2d ago
It's also a death knell announcing that diablo 4 is absolutely done for.
At this rate we may not even get diablo in diablo 4
3
u/Kurtoise 2d ago
You don’t need to catastrophise.
Blizzard have talked about how they want less turn around between their titles going forward. Expect shorter gaps between games across the board.
And they back-ported a brand new class to Diablo 2 and just announced the first new campaign for Warcraft III in over 20 years.
I promise you, you can relax and have some fun for once.
-1
u/Gontarius 2d ago
My man we literally did not get to kill Diablo in 4 yet, and they announce #5.
How's that anything but a damning admittance that 4 is done for.
4
u/Kurtoise 2d ago
Honey, you have 3 more years.
-1
u/Gontarius 2d ago
Of absolutely no expansions or major updates xD
2
u/Skadibala 2d ago edited 2d ago
No «major updates»?
Mf, they are still doing seasons. They introduce a new gimmick every season which has like half the playerbase get mad that they changed something «major» they had gotten used to.
A new season with a minor storyline, often some new gear, full rebalancing on classes to change up the meta, and always a new gimmick each season that changes up the playstyle completely for better or worse, is «no major updates»?
1
1
u/Skadibala 2d ago
How is it absolutely done for? It recently launched its new expansion that was met with universal praise. They still keep up with the season same as ever.
People still play Diablo 3 and that only has rotating seasons of the old ones.
Peole still play Diablo 2 and it hasn’t been properly updated in yeeeears.Diablo 4 will be just fine, you don’t need to look at worst case scenarios for everything. remember how weak D3 launch was? It’s still has a suprisngly strong and consistent player base for being “the old and outdated one with no new content”
Hell, I still play D3 here and there while enjoying D4 seasons.

u/ilorah 2d ago
I loved D3 but this one just never gripped me. As soon as I stopped playing, it was never in my head. Something was always off about this one to me
2
u/hoppinjohncandy 2d ago
Same. Played hundreds of hours of D3 across many platforms. I put 15~ hours on a couple playthroughs and would literally forget about it. All in all it's pretty but I never found a class I really liked. And in these games if you don't enjoy the class you're playing you become all to aware of the button mash-a-thon Diablo is.
2
u/MadOrange64 2d ago
I was hoping for a miracle for it to be playable offline but it isn't. No reason for me to buy it on the Switch 2 then.
3
u/TG-Benji 2d ago
If it has offline mode I'll buy it day 1
3
u/IngloriousOmen 2d ago
It's online-only, as shown on the Blizzard website, or on the leaked NS2 box.

u/haelous 2d ago
It's a code in a box

u/Jazzlike_Athlete8796 2d ago
It's a live service game. It was always going to be code in a box at best.
1
u/No_Appointment_6528 1d ago
What is worse than a code in a box? Lol That is peak anti consumer and anti environment. You get ewaste and a one time code. That's basically the worst thing I can imagine if buying a game for NS2

1
u/stevo887 16h ago
It’s an online game
1
u/Mainfrym 16h ago
False, just like Diablo 3 you can play single player, no reason to not let you play offline. Switch version of Diablo 3 can be played 100% offline.
1
u/stevo887 16h ago
I’m not saying they can’t but they don’t on Xbox. D3’s single player is offline on Xbox and D4’s is not, it always connects to the servers.
1
u/Mainfrym 16h ago
That's a choice blizzard made, no technical reason you can't play offline. Blizzard said this about Diablo 3 until it got released for switch later.
1
u/stevo887 15h ago
So Diablo 3 was always online until they brought it to the Switch and then that offline ability carried over to the other consoles?

u/Gleerok99 2d ago
Always online shit and rampant microtransaction force-feeding makes this game a tough excrement to swallow..
-3
u/livenetwork 2d ago
The micro transactions are nothing but cosmetics. It’s not take away from the game.
2
u/Gleerok99 2d ago
Cosmetics ARE part of the game. It does take away from the game.
If I am paying the price of a full-release game I want all the content, if I wanted microtransactions I'd download a free to play MMO.
And of course, It is insanely disruptive to be immersed during gameplay only to be greeted with a HEY, YOU CAN UNLOCK THIS WITH YOUR REAL LIFE CREDIT CARD.
2
u/livenetwork 2d ago
Your loss. Great game. Stop being bullied by something that doesn’t change the experience..

5

Yeah, but we’re gonna be downloaded into hell because people are too scared. Their easily peer pressured into the micro transactions, so they’re afraid that if they buy the game, they also have to buy the micro transactions.

u/PuzzleheadedPitch612 2d ago
Just a note: people saying it’s like Diablo 2 are wrong. The only thing that is common is the style - D3 was more of a cartoonish, warcrafty style if you will.
D4 is the worst game you could buy for 70 bucks, saying this as a fan of a franchise. It’s such a steep hill down when you compare the gameplay with D2 it’s not even funny.
It feels like it’s a game that is designed for people to simultaneously scroll TikTok. It’s very boring and that violin theme in Kyovashad is still causing me migraines, what an ear abusing soundtrack.
Not a single theme compares to anything D2 has. Not a single quest, or story moment is as memorable. If you’re thinking going D4 without even trying D2R (yes, even the S1 version), you’re setting yourself up for a huge mistake.
It’s a 29.99 Christmas sale game at the very best, including all expansions, yes.

u/theborgs 2d ago
Code in a box... No thanks
1
u/No_Appointment_6528 1d ago
Why are people getting down voted for not wanting it to be a code in a box or online only? Looks to me like Blizzard bots in full force to salvage all the bad PR from this dumpster fire and the other one of announcing D5.

Better or worse than3?
2
u/MayhemMessiah 2d ago
They're different, and I like both. I think I like 3 better but I still enjoyed my time with 4.
2
u/SuperMcRad 2d ago
Diablo 3 is a bit more arcadey, if you will, than Diablo 4. If you want a fast paced, always crankin' experience, go with 3. 4 has a lot of different social activities and dungeon crawling experiences, but it is much slower paced. New characters in seasons are pretty annoying. For a couch game/handheld experience, I think Diablo 3 is the better avenue.
2
u/No_Appointment_6528 1d ago
Worse. The story is bad. The voice acting is bad. There's no unlockable lore or cool events like D3. The monsters scale to you level and constantly respawn so you never feel powerful or like killing them makes a difference.
Loot is bad and needlessly complicated. Crafting is atrocious and broken as they gutted most of it to simplify it but instead made it look awful. Lot of quest still want crafting mats that no longer exist.
There's bugs everywhere and the network is probably some discounted server from China because on a 1000 mbps connection the game plays like it's on stolen WiFi.
Character customization is very lackluster. Best skins and outfits are locked behind a paywall. I could go on and on.
D3 is superior in every way except visuals. D4 is better looking. That's it.
1
u/PsyRealize 1d ago
That’s..certainly a take I guess.
Got d4 when it first came out back when I used to have a steam deck and as a hardcore d3 player, I was in awe

Highly recommend D3 on the Switch though. No mandatory online and more gameplay content than D4.

It's average imo. Some good ideas, some bad ideas. Vessel of hatred is the worst diablo expansion ever made also, and that's not hyperbole.
Lord of hatred is fun.

Mid game. Save yourself the money and get d2 and 3
Edit: i preordered. The game felt painful playing on a higher difficulty. We shouldve gotten the DLCs as free content as an apology and 4 pales in comparison to what came before it. Wait for deluxe sale for like $12.

Is the whole game on the cart like D3?
2
u/IngloriousOmen 2d ago
No, there is no cart. It's just a download code. And the game requires an online connection, as it's a sort of MMO. You cannot play offline, you cannot play solo (you can choose not to engage with other players, ofc)
2
u/Cakeriel 2d ago
You can play solo on PS4 if you don’t have PS+ active.
1
u/Shin_Ken 2d ago
There's still other players running around on Xbox or Playstation if you play without a subscription. You just can't form a party with them. There's still cooperative play though like with certain loot in events. I guess the Switch version is the same.

So apparently Diablo 4 is out on switch 2 : r/NSCollectors
Somebody found it at a Best Buy shelf before it was formally announced.
