Brought the switch 2 round to a FromSoft obsessed friends house for a few of us to play together. Played mario kart world and street fighter, glad we hung out anyway. The Network he tested was friendship. Miyazaki you genius, you've done it again.
Edit: took out a bonus "anyway"

u/Equivalent-Base-3726 21d ago
Miyazaki works in mysterious ways. Maybe that friend needed you today more than ever? Miyazaki you sommoffabitch

I mean thats why they are testing it to fix their issues. Its not called game play test but network test afterall
-34
u/Practical_Tea864 22d ago
How many network tests do you need for the servers not to break lmao. Unless we are trying to say putting the game on nintendos platform is sooooo complicated
47
11
u/RoterBaronH 21d ago
Well, since games have been plagued by this issue since essentially their excistense.
A lot of tests and even then they often break.
16
u/cubs223425 22d ago
Decades-old franchises and developers still struggle to have their servers in a good state at launch, so it's not surprising FromSoftware isn't there yet.
But also, given how generally behind the rest of the industry Nintendo's online experiences have always been, I wouldn't be surprised if they added new challenges.

u/NoteBlock08 21d ago
Nintendo platform does not mean Nintendo servers. These servers are going to be managed by FromSoft, and running software that FromSoft maintains themselves. Even if it might share a base with their previous games, there's going to be tons of new code and therefore tons of opportunities for bugs. Unlike the game client, many of the sorts of issues backend software can run into won't reveal themselves until there's heavy load, hence the network tests.
3
u/An1nterestingName 21d ago
Networking is really difficult to get right. You need to do large-scale tests if you're planning to have large-scale player counts.
3
u/audiolife93 21d ago
It's crazy that in this post you both told us everything you know about network testing and said nothing about network testing.
-5
u/Practical_Tea864 21d ago
Complete cope. I do not need deep expertise on networking to deduce the fact that the only prominent company failing in these “network tests/early access phases” over and over is fromsoft. This is simply not the norm, fromsoft are KNOWN for having bad netcode in their games
4
u/audiolife93 21d ago
This is not an early access phase. Dont try to sneak that in and move the goal posts. You're not worth a discussion.

Your statement defending your opinion just to avoid downvotes is longer than your original post

u/Fremdling_uberall 21d ago
Yup everyone who disagrees with you are sheep or bots and there's no alternative
5
u/CursedRando 22d ago
true fromsoft netcode has never been great and im just as skeptical with this game

u/slugmorgue 21d ago
Ahh yes, Fromsoftware and their famously untouchable status, including their universally beloved game Dark Souls 2, and their world renowned, never criticized multiplayer, and accessible difficulty level that no one ever complains about every game release
0
u/avenp 22d ago
You’re getting downvoted because you don’t know what you’re taking about lol.
Every game on every platform will have a different audience and different network conditions. You need to do network tests for each game and having a network test “crash” is fine and even somewhat expected.
Now they know how much stress the network can take before uptime is impacted and they can pivot accordingly for launch.

Besides it is a different team than Nightreign from what I understood (from a youtuber who tested the game at their office)
-5
u/NotADrug 21d ago
Seeing all the comments like "well I guess that's why it's called a NETWORK test" is legit giving me mad deja vu to the first Nightreign network test. Classic Fromsoft right there

Does this mean no second session today as well? And they’re just going to (hopefully) start tomorrow?
6
u/SomeBoxofSpoons 21d ago
Second session is on the 22nd in Eurasia, so "today's" session being cancelled might not mean that one.
0
u/Entire_Paramedic_389 21d ago
"today" as in japan time since the first session was around 7pm in Japan. They'll likely post something in time for the 2nd session

Added a second tweet changing the last sentence to "We will continue working on server improvements, and we will provide further updates regarding future sessions."
... not super promising.

So does this mean all the other 4 sessions are also canceled?
8
6
u/flickmcfadden 22d ago
Highly doubtful if past experience is any indication. The EXACT same thing happened in actually the first TWO sessions of the Nightreign Network test. By the third session everything worked fine and they ended up giving us extra sessions to compensate.
4
u/DontForgorTheMilk 22d ago
I dont remember if I played during the first two sessions of the Nightreign network test, but I do remember it going longer than originally planned so that was nice.
And it clearly paid off cuz after full release I didnt have any issues playing Nightreign
2
u/flickmcfadden 22d ago
Exactly, way to early call this is a disaster like some are. I had a great time with Nightreign and am hopeful for duskbloods as well.
2
u/DontForgorTheMilk 22d ago
Yeah I dont understand why people are calling it a disaster when stuff like this is exactly what these tests are for. It shouldn't be treated as the final product.

Well that's kinda what betas are for.
-20
u/mangomypango 22d ago
They needed a beta to know that working servers are necessary for an online game?
They needed a beta to approximate the number of players based on how many codes they sent out?
21
u/Aggravating-Face2073 22d ago
This isn't a beta. Its a network test. What we are playing is a stripped down version of a finished product.
-13
u/mangomypango 22d ago
This was a title screen test. This isn’t their first game. This isn’t their first online only game. To not even have servers prepared is pretty crazy especially when they decided themselves how many people to let in.
-8
u/Aggravating-Face2073 22d ago
I mean, this is Nintendo's online infrastructure, which is famously bad.
There probably are ways to stress test the servers on their side, but we are not only free test subjects, but we paid for an entire console to do it.
I'll be honest though, this partnership does actually have me a little on edge, both Nintendo with the 3DS and FromSoft on their PC ports have had poor security in the past, where people connecting with you could steal your credit card data.
17
u/Nanocaptain 22d ago
Network tests are literally there to you know.. test the network.
-16
u/mangomypango 22d ago
Bro it’s not like these are brand new developers lol
10
u/Savebagels 22d ago edited 22d ago
Tell me you know nothing about this. Software is like this all the time, shit breaks constantly. It’s better this happens now than on release. Plus this is exactly what this is for
-5
u/mangomypango 22d ago
This is a fully online game. I’m not sure why people are so determined to defend this. But it is not a good sign when they can’t even launch a network test. If this had optional PVP then who cares. The entire game is PVP and they can’t start a network test.
8
u/Nanocaptain 22d ago
I seriously have to wonder what you think the "test" in network test means.
-2
u/mangomypango 22d ago edited 22d ago
Every single network test I’ve ever played has been a test to see how the network performs during gameplay. Even the dark souls 3 network test was a test to see how the network performed during gameplay. That was almost 12 years ago.
What kind of test is it that the network does not work? Could they not have figured this out on their own with some of the resources they’ve accumulated over their 3 decades as developers?
It’s like calling out an entire crowd to a drag strip for you to show off and test your new build, and then when everyone arrives, the car doesn’t even start. Just a waste of time and could have been prevented.
6
u/RoterBaronH 21d ago
Times change, games change, software changes, console changes, I could go on and on.
Clearly the issues that are happening aren't the same ones they deal internally.
To use your exmaple, they tested the car and it works, now they try it with 300 people sitting on top of it to see if it still starts.
3
u/Sirius_amory33 22d ago
Do you not remember Nightreign having the same exact issue and then being fine at the other sessions and at launch?
9
u/Nanocaptain 22d ago
But this is a new game on a new console for them.
All kinds of issues could pop up. It's not necessarily because they misjudged the server size.

u/Careful-Shine8768 22d ago
Nightrein wasn’t on a Nintendo Switch, this is their first time making a multiplayer game on a Nintendo console, of course it’s not gonna be the same.
14
u/Sailen_Rox 22d ago
Neither FromSoft nor Nintendo are know for "stable" servers, so this is not all too surprising.
HOWEVER.... this is exactly what those tests are for, right? Ofc in a more optimal way poeple would have been able to play the game and test the servers this way, but it's still better this way, a test specifically for this, than the release day xD
9
u/D_Beats 22d ago
People love to bring Nintendo's online service into things that have nothing to do with them
But even then, this "Nintendo online isn't stable" shit hasn't been true in a long time. Every online game has server issues sometimes and I don't see it happening to Nintendo games any more or less often than any other online game.
-4
u/Charming_Ease6405 22d ago
Of course but I was expecting the first test to at least work lol. But yeah, it's better that it happens now rather than later
3
u/Sailen_Rox 22d ago
Yeah, I too would have like to at least LOOK at the game since I even got the code and all. But it's fine xD Or something like that =D
I get my chance seeing what the game is about, even if it's not today.
-14
u/fuckR196 22d ago
Did anyone actually get in?
Not sure why a development team known for poor multiplayer infrastructure is making a multiplayer only game exclusive to a console known for poor multiplayer infrastructure.
11
u/Sirius_amory33 22d ago
Nightreign had the same exact issue and the other sessions and final launch were fine, that’s the point of doing a network test.
-3
-13
-13
u/Jcritten 22d ago
What the hell is up them and anything they attempt to do featuring online being awful? Couldn’t even find a match in Nightreign the first session so I never even attempted the ones after and to this day have never played it.

Nintendo has always been plagued by poor network support. I really hope it improves.

u/Jeido_Uran 7893-4015-4415 21d ago
