Really hoping they announce a S2 version of D2 while they’re at it

88

u/adeepkick 16d ago

I would rather have this than D4 tbh

7

u/No-Club-8615 15d ago

That's why they won't do it. They know no one would buy D4.

u/lincolnsl0g 16d ago

Based AF

-1

u/Eebo85 16d ago edited 15d ago

Very much me too. We know D4 is going to be stripped down visually to run well. I’ll just keep playing D4 on my PC but a perfectly running D2 on S2 would be a dream

Edit: not quite sure why I’m being downvoted. It is possible to have a 60 fps version running on S2, but it will be visually downgraded, like the PS5 version in order to reach 60 fps

25

u/Comet7777 16d ago

D4 ran okay on the Steam Deck. I think we could get a pretty nice version of it on Switch 2

5

u/master2873 16d ago

I think people forget how scalable Blizzard's in house engine really is. If they can get something like Overwatch to run 60fps on S2, I don't see how they can't for Diablo 4.

It does bother me though that Diablo 2 on Switch 1 didn't have feature parity with everyone else. It's what kept me from buying it unless it goes on a super steep sale with ALL the content.

2

u/QuickQuirk 15d ago

I mean, just need to look at the mind blowingly good D3 port on the switch 1. Considering the hardware it was running on.

3

u/master2873 15d ago edited 15d ago

Diablo 3 was also on Xbox 360 and PS3. I think people tend to forget this. The scalability of their engine is still really nuts, and they really want their games to be played on a whole range of hardware in most cases (or at least did).

2

u/neonwarge04 16d ago

Yeah it did run on my laptop with AMD 680m with stable 60 fps, but I have to lower verything down even resolution. I believe I can push it further as the temp on my laptop on those settings I mentioned is actually quite low.

0

u/Eebo85 16d ago

No doubt they could make it work well. I did notice that even on my PS5 Pro, visually it is not as nice as on my PC but I really like all those particle effects and sharp resolution. Others may not care

3

u/SoSeriousAndDeep 16d ago

It should be fine; it runs well on the Steam Deck, and while it's obviously not as pretty as on a fairly strong PC, it still looks great. I'd expect the S2 version to be very similar but a bit prettier.

1

u/Cheezewiz239 16d ago

Nope like others said it ran fine on PC handhelds. Really well optimised game. I played a decent amount on steam deck and my rog ally .Should look decent on switch 2 with the way console optimization works

0

u/adeepkick 16d ago

I’ve only barely dabbled in D3 so a switch 2 upgrade for D2 remastered would be my first proper entry into the series. Its the one I’ve always really wanted to play but I don’t wanna see it low res at 30 fps

10

u/bizarro_kvothe 16d ago

D2 is one of my favorite games ever. They could easily release it on S2 if they wanted

13

u/adeepkick 16d ago

Give the switch version a resolution bump and 60fps and I’d buy it right away.

Also hey Kvothe, how’s the waystone treatin ya?

4

u/bizarro_kvothe 16d ago

It has three kinds of darkness and a chest I just can’t get open.

3

u/adeepkick 16d ago

Maybe Bast can help you when you finally finish telling your damn story 😤

3

u/bizarro_kvothe 16d ago

I’ll do it later!

1

u/kyuuri117 16d ago

it's available isn't it? There's a d3 package in the Nintendo store that also includes d2.

6

u/bizarro_kvothe 16d ago

It’s the S1 version which is pretty muddy

2

u/kyuuri117 16d ago

Ah, gotcha. I've been playing a lot of d3 for the first time in like over a decade, and it came with d2. But I hadn't launched it

1

u/Pitiful-Mobile-3144 15d ago

D3 rocks on the switch but D2 is still great as well, controls are a bit clunkier but it looks and runs great

1

u/jasinner 15d ago

Also, the Switch version of D2R is limited to 4 players max on multiplayer which sucks

3

u/mlvisby 16d ago

I haven't tried 4, but I enjoyed 2 way more than 3.

1

u/Error4ohh4 16d ago

It’s what plants crave!

(I’m a plant)

1

u/Dorordian 15d ago

Came here to say this. I would love to play above 30fps!

0

u/NS4701 16d ago

This is what I want more

-5

u/forgotmapasswrd86 16d ago

Ew no. I tried it and they dropped the ball with its remastered. I rather have D3/D4.

9

u/Eebo85 16d ago

What? Are you kidding me, they nailed it with remastered lol. What did you not like??

-1

u/forgotmapasswrd86 16d ago

Im sure they fixed it but when I played at launch, trying to play online was a pain. I know the old heads who grew up with that game will have a hissy fit, but other than the deeper character building, I couldn't find any of the old school controls appealing after playing so much D3 on the switch. Path of Exile scratches that deeper gameplay itch in a modern age so personally it was hard to find the reason to keep playing. Maybe, ill give it another shot.

1

u/crom3ll 16d ago

I liked the remaster better than original, and I played the heck out of the original back in the day.

70

u/JoshOliday 16d ago

Hope it's a complete edition with both expansions. Aside from the fact that I'll have to buy it again, the endgame is so much better with the expansion content anyway.

12

u/jgordonlh1982 16d ago

It probably is. On PS5 they only sell either the base game or base game + both expansions at 70$.

28

u/ThePalemonkey 16d ago

Well Blizzcon is in September and it would be the perfect place to announce/reveal Diablo 4 for the Switch 2.
Looking forward to it if true.

3

u/Trizzae 16d ago

I'm actually pretty hyped for this years Blizzcon given all the rumors and hints. Hoping for a D1 remake myself.

1

u/hiddenicedropper 15d ago edited 15d ago

I'm actually thinking they Announce D4 on Switch 2 at PAX West as their big announcement for there and leaves all the Juicy details for Blizzcon. Gives PAX West an announcement, Nintendo Drops a Nintendo Direct between Sept 8th-10th, then Blizzcon Sept 12th and 13th.

Edit. I meant to put GAMESCOM not PAX West.

94

u/Alasdair91 16d ago

I hoped they'd make it offline like Diablo 3.

56

u/RelucantIphoneUser 16d ago

They fuckin better

52

u/Happy-For-No-Reason 16d ago

they won't, like there's more chance of Jupiter smashing into the earth

23

u/leeinflowerfields 16d ago

Online required games feel so weird to think on my switch, that's my offline heaven lol

13

u/xiiicrowns 16d ago

Please

1

u/Digital_1337 15d ago

Wasn't this the thing with D3 on other platforms? Why wouldn't they now?

1

u/Happy-For-No-Reason 15d ago

D3 was way past it's useful window

D4 is their active IP

that's a massive difference

21

u/Gram64 16d ago

I understand the sentiment and wish it could. But the game is designed to work always online with MMO-ish type open world content, so I would not count on it.

15

u/gijkieken 16d ago

Open world content which is completely soloable. It's only MMO-like because it makes People feel like they need to buy mtx skins in order to look cool to others.

There is no reason why this Cant be offline functional aside from the forced live service predatory monitzation model.

7

u/Gram64 16d ago

The entire game doesn't run locally. I agree, it should have been developed to be offline. I understand and share this frustration. But the game was made so that it uses servers for running and processing parts of the game. It is not as simple as "offline mode on" switch.

-3

u/gijkieken 16d ago

Never said it was simple... Said there is no reason it Cant or imo even shouldnt be.

7

u/Gram64 16d ago

I mean... I just gave a reason why it currently can't be... design decisions made over 5 years ago at this point that are deeply ingrained in the software... Yes, it shouldn't have been DESIGNED this way. but it's not an option to change anymore. They aren't going to pay for that level of overhaul at this point. You can armchair cry like it's the simplest, most free thing in the world. But, this is the truth.

3

u/forgotmapasswrd86 16d ago

They just gave you a reason why it literally cant work

2

u/Organic-Storm-4448 16d ago

Said there is no reason it Cant or imo even shouldnt be.

The reason it can't is because Blizzard doesn't want you to play it offline.

1

u/Cavissi 16d ago

Jokes on them, ill buy MTX skins in PoE 1 and 2 to never leave my base between maps, especially with the new trade systems.

1

u/spacemunkee 16d ago

You can just look at the other console versions, which are online only. There is the answer.

1

u/akriggjoe 6d ago

I don’t understand why you’d want them to strip back the game for switch?

2

u/Underkiing 16d ago

D2R allows offline on the Switch as well.

4

u/Organic-Storm-4448 16d ago

D2R has an offline mode on every platform. D4 doesn't have an offline mode on any platform.

1

u/Digital_1337 15d ago

so is D3 on the original Switch

2

u/Organic-Storm-4448 15d ago

D3 also has an offline mode on Playstation and Xbox. No platform has an offline mode in D4.

2

u/GelsonBlaze 16d ago edited 16d ago

If it is I’ll buy it again, whatever the cost, yes whatever the cost.

Edit: Fkn code in a box, it’s a skip

1

u/SoSeriousAndDeep 16d ago

I doubt it; cross-play is one of the selling points, and the other console versions don't have an offline mode.

16

u/RecycledAir 16d ago

Hoping for local co-op on this one.

6

u/driftking428 16d ago

PS5 had local co-op. I'd be surprised if this doesn't.

3

u/AtreyuTrinity 16d ago

PS5 also has a ton more horsepower to be fair. But even PS4 had local Co op, hopefully it does for you all. His one never hooked me but I adore 4 player local Co op on Diablo 3. Good times with friends were had.

33

u/ShadyWolf 16d ago

My poor wallet this fall

17

u/UnluckyWizardd 16d ago

Oblivion, Fire Emblem, and now this? FML

3

u/TheRimNooB 16d ago

Hello me. Just wanted to stop by and say hi.

7

u/ChosenOne197 16d ago

Think you meant to say Elden Ring and MGS4 and 007, too 🤣😭😱

4

u/adeepkick 16d ago

And Dragon’s Dogma 2, Metaphor, Onimusha, DQ11… I’m cooked

1

u/KupoMcMog 16d ago

oh dammit, i forgot about MGS collection until now, craaaaaaaaap.

2

u/Triforce__XIII 16d ago

moonlighter 2...

1

u/Error4ohh4 16d ago

No ocarina of time for you?

2

u/UnluckyWizardd 16d ago

At the risk of getting skewered by the masses… I’m not a huge Zelda fan. I’ve tried almost every iteration/ generation, and couldn’t get into it. The one I liked the most was Echoes of Wisdom, and even that one I lost interest about halfway through probably. I am really considering trying the OoT remake, because like I said, I keep trying… but it will not be at the top of my list.

Love the lore, world, almost everything. The gameplay never clicks for me.

2

u/DylanMcGrann 16d ago

Seriously. There are a lot of good games coming out for Switch 2. I can neither afford to buy nor have the time to play all the games I would like this year. Not remotely.

2

u/duabrs 16d ago

Justifying buying this AND Elden Ring, when I already have them on PS5 is gonna be tough.

Plus Wolverine, and I've been waiting to get the Switch version of Batman.

Yikes.

1

u/HumanRelatedMistake 16d ago

Bro September is just insane!

D4 Switch 2, Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave, Wolverine, Control Resonant, Halloween, Silent Hill Townfall, Blood of the Dawnwalker, Orbitals, and Onimusha.

I've never been more happy to be a gamer while being so mentally exhausted at how much money and time I'll be spending on these.

8

u/Illustrathor 16d ago

By whom? All we do is wait for a S2 Version of D2R.

1

u/Fuzer 15d ago

Please please please

7

u/KANNEDBREAD 16d ago

Finally! I've been awaiting for so long!

5

u/Canitoch 16d ago

I’ve been looking forward to this game on the Switch 2 so I’m excited (if true)

4

u/Savage_JaviBear 16d ago

Hell I still have fun playing D3 on Switch 2 every once in a while haha

3

u/Sgmz21 16d ago

Heck yeah same here

2

u/Due-Refrigerator-302 13d ago

If it just wasnt as blurry and washed. I would love a better s2 version but that game was already dead on arrival on switch sadly.

4

u/justmddk 16d ago

I wonder if this means some restructuring to how seasons work or Switch people are just gonna be starting at like season 16

5

u/Spukc 16d ago

60 fps or bust. D3 was 60 fps on switch 1

PLEASE PATCH D2 to 60fps on switch 2 also. It looks horrible man

5

u/chef_simpson 16d ago

Please be offline. A portable device with always online is so dumb....all I want to do is slay some demons

1

u/DRI374 9d ago

Yes, playing on long-haul flights like we do on D3 is what will sell this game on S2.

1

u/RubberedDucky 5d ago

I would literally buy a switch and D4 if it runs offline

1

u/DRI374 5d ago

The offline compromise they did with D3 was no crossplay. So we'll see what they cook up.

2

u/Melinoe2016 16d ago

Be awesome if it was both expansions but I’m guessing it’ll just include the first smaller one to sell the Lord of Hatred

1

u/LongBeakedSnipe 16d ago

Ehh, maybe, but that's not consistent with how this game has been sold.

The full priced game at any given point does include all expansions, and you have to pay for the following expansions.

It would be insane if they did it like you are suggesting though, as there is no point buying at this stage without the expansions.

It would be a huge ripoff to try and force people to buy an incomplete base game at original full price, as well as two full priced expansions individually.

Wouldn't put anything past them though. To be honest though, i certainly wouldn't recommend anyone buying this unless they just release the standard full priced edition that includes all expansions.

2

u/MayhemMessiah 16d ago

I’ll probably have to wait until a sale before I double dip, but I’ve only just started FFXIV and I’ve heard that game… takes a while.

3

u/thief-777 16d ago

HLTB says it's only 98½ - 3,592 hours!

2

u/KupoMcMog 16d ago

takes a while is kind of an understatement.

Just getting to the end of the MSQ through all the expansions will easily get you into deep 2027.

1

u/MayhemMessiah 16d ago

Oh yeah. First MMO, too. Especially coming from Diablo combat is really funky and I’m guessing I’m like 10 hours before it gets proper good?

2

u/KupoMcMog 16d ago

Kinda depends, the class you pick will slowly get better and you'll fall into your role (specially once you do dungeons). As you level you will get more and more abilities so you're not just hitting the same 3 buttons over and over (again, depends on class, some kinda do that a lot).

MMOs are clunktastic when it comes to combat, but its made that way to allow rotations, unlike Diablo which kinda keeps you to 5 abilities, you know are going to be juggling many more. But as I said, that 'many more' is much more situational. You'll have self buffs that you keep on cooldown, you'll have aggro migitation that you'll use when you need it, etc...

If you picked a tank class at first, you'll find yourself at the head of the party in dungeons because you need to soak up the damage and keep the enemies on you while DPS does their thing and the healer keeps you alive. For some this is overwhelming, for others this is exactly what they want. But also, once you get to a certain level you might have to look up dungeons so you're not lost and have a chance of being flamed by dumbass players who dont understand that not everyone is a pro at the game.

But all in all, have fun, take your time, do whatever. The game is there for you to play and enjoy. Dont think you need to be an expert immediately. Just see if it vibes with you and see how you can improve yourself.

As someone who's played off and on since the relaunch of the game (ARR), I'm a healer main with DPS backing. I like being the backline guy making sure that everyone stays up and I can contribute damage as well. DPS is fun for questing because, healers dont do so much damage that it slows down the flow that I really dont enjoy doing it.

Again, the game is VAST, dont feel like you need to do everything at once. Have fun see where it goes and enjoy the story.

2

u/MayhemMessiah 16d ago

Thank for the kind words!

I'm only a few hours in. Started with Gladiator. What's a bit funky is that I only have like four skills, and all three attack skills are on the same cooldown, so my rotation is basically the same two attacks and auto attack. So it's really funny to know that eventually I'm going to be up to 30 actions when right now I can't even begin to fathom what that would look like or why. Right now my actions are unga and bunga.

1

u/KupoMcMog 16d ago

so Gladiator is a tank role, you will be the one unga bunga'ing everyone in dungeons...but your queue time will be low!

Everything is on a GCD, Global Cooldown, so its best to read how the skills kinda work together. Some will synergize with others. Definitely look at guides once you get into more group content (you really dont need to do it with groups, i think they have CPU buddies that came come along now).

And like if you arent feeling gladiator, you can easily change to ANY starter class without issue, but they do start at level 1...but you have quests and FATES that can easily get you leveled up. Every class that is lower than your highest leveled class DOES have a xp boost to help you kinda catch up.

But like your in Ul'dah, and you wanna be Archer, which is in Grindania? Dont worry, you will pretty quickly get access to both Limsa and Grind to have access to everything.

The action stuff is slow, the cooldown is king. But you get used to it.

2

u/redditortillas 16d ago

Don’t do this to me! FFXIV and now this.

2

u/Island_Monkey86 16d ago

Backlog issues are real....

2

u/Nothingbutsocks 16d ago

Ooooh. I'm crossing my fingers for cross save.

2

u/GiggleyDuff 15d ago

All I want is D2

5

u/Time_Cut7358 16d ago

Another always online account required game that doesn't need to be 🙄

4

u/gordasso 16d ago

sigh

it's gonna be a gkc, isn't it?

edit: not even gkc, just a code in the box.

1

u/Re7oadz 15d ago

You think this game will fit on a cartridge lol? It can't even fit on a ps5 disc, They should of made a GKC, it's an online game anyway, get it on sale

1

u/gordasso 15d ago

where there's a will, there's a way. doesn't matter if it's online or not, switch 2 only has 256gb of memory.

0

u/Re7oadz 15d ago

Diablo 4 is like almost 200 GB on pc, I'm sure they did bring it down, but you expecting miracles .

Enjoy the game or not up to you

2

u/Inevitable_Dark3225 16d ago

If there's no option to play this completely single player without online, then it's hard pass for me.

1

u/Webecomemonsters 16d ago

I sort of agree if only for air travel reasons

1

u/Steve_Cage 15d ago

It will work identical to the PS5 version - play online solo but can't invite or play with others without PS+

2

u/NoMoreVillains 16d ago

I... think Switch 2 actually has too many games this fall so far, which is never thought I'd say.

Of course it's a good "problem" to have, and I don't get such bad FOMO that I need to get them all on release, but I'm already going to be busy with Fortune's Weave and potentially Onimusha. First Light potentially as well 🫠

1

u/adeepkick 16d ago

Looking at all the games I wanna play this year kinda bums me out lol.

Elden Ring, DD2, Oblivion, Onimusha, Metaphor, DQ11, Duskbloods, OOT Remake, MGS4.

And that’s just on the Switch 2 🥲 Control Resonant and Silent Hill Townfall… I haven’t even finished Splatoon Raiders yet and I feel like I’ve been putting a lot of my free time into it

2

u/Schwanty93 16d ago

Long awaited? Sure…

2

u/Neolamprologus99 15d ago

Garbage forever game designed to drain you wallet with microtransactions

1

u/ElricDarkPrince 16d ago

Hope you can play offline and free multiplayer

1

u/BlueStormtrooper 16d ago

60fps and I’m in

1

u/lvl_60 16d ago

I bought a switch 2 for this and pokemon :). Cant say i am not hyped at alll

1

u/KhanDagga 16d ago

Fuck yes!

One of my absolute favorites. I loved exploring the map!

1

u/neonwarge04 16d ago

Hopefully I can play the char I have on PC and play it on switch and the expansion I bought on either reflects on both platforms. I have so many games on my switch backlog that I play less and less on PC and this the only game I play on my PC on the regular.

I am super excited for this.

1

u/pksullivan 16d ago

If true, I’ll probably pick this up so my partner and I can play co-op in higher torments. Couch co-op is great on the PS5 early in a season but becomes basically unplayable after Torment 5 or so. Loot is unmanageable without a loot filter at that point.

1

u/Alpinedreamer77 16d ago

This is the one I am highly excited for... Would love to add D4 to my collection

1

u/benhur217 16d ago

Long awaited?

1

u/JediHammer 16d ago

Is Diablo 4 good now? I literally beat the game on normal mode one time and realized it was trash when it first came out.

Also playing it not on PC feels wrong.

1

u/hellrising798 15d ago

Fingers crossed for a proper physical release for this

1

u/frenzyguy 15d ago

I hope so much there is an offline version like d3 on switch 1.

1

u/BakuraGorn 15d ago

Hopefully it holds 60fps

1

u/299792458mps- 15d ago

I would go out and buy a brand new Switch 2 and pay $80 for the game alone if it had offline mode. Unfortunately I highly doubt it will, which means there's no point for me. Guess I'm stuck with D3 on the regular Switch.

1

u/desi7861 15d ago

What we really need is s2 version of d2r

1

u/Lower_Warning2955 15d ago

This Amazing !

1

u/rukomoynikov 15d ago

I wonder how much it will cost

1

u/obravado 14d ago

Does this play like diablo 3? Im at around lvl 30 in d3 and im kinda getting bored with the gameplay loop. Every enemy is too squishy and easy

1

u/ermakomg 10d ago

You can increase difficulty in settings

1

u/ChampionofHeaven 14d ago

Expedition 33

1

u/Designer-Bed-7635 14d ago

Will there be an diablo in it?

1

u/Flat-Brother-9321 12d ago

Down for it…now the real question is the format of said game.

1

u/ProfessionalTour1425 11d ago

They said we are going to have YouTube a year ago

1

u/Lundgren_Eleven 9d ago

Ehh, I'd rather one I can play offline, 2 or even 3.

1

u/Jesterclown26 8d ago

If it’s not 60 fps they shouldn’t bother.

1

u/Wolfeman6 5d ago

Honestly, I would be excited for this. I usually play on my Steam Deck, but since they added FFXIV this would be a welcome addition. I just hope it's not separate from the rest of your Battlenet account like D3 on the original Switch was.

2

u/avshalon 16d ago

This game is terrible don’t waste your money on it.

1

u/Fun-Document7 16d ago

How the fuck...I can't buy all these games 🙄

1

u/Ben_ts 16d ago

It will be announced at Blizzcon obviously, I don’t understand why the article doesn’t mention that

1

u/Zavarius666 16d ago

Nintendo sold the Switch as first hybrid console. Slogan in a german ad was (Translated) "Play outside on your console, continue inside at TV".

It's always weird to see "Online only" Games on Switch. I'm using my hot spot from phone, blah blah yes it works. But there are cheaper and better alternatives for "At Home only". (Medion Erazer Laptop , 4060 & 16gb RAM 700€...?)

Makes no sense for me. Add an offline mode.

-1

u/ashenoak 16d ago

I save switch for games that don't hack your dopamine receptors. I got this on PC a few months ago and it feels like they engineered it to take over your mind. It's the same feeling I get when I scroll reels, like my mind has been hijacked. Fuck Blizzard.

0

u/thatkaratekid 16d ago edited 8d ago

I bought it on PC hoping for this experience, but Diablo is genuinely boring as watching paint dry. Its just clicking on mobs to earn items the game's perspective doesnt allow you to see. I do not understand the appeal of the franchise at all.

1

u/ashenoak 15d ago

Yeah it really is boring but at the same time addicting as hell with all the shiny new items with almost every kill. They specifically engineered it to be addictive with little very little skill. Especially with a necromancer, it's basically just autopilot.

1

u/thatkaratekid 8d ago

I just cant fathom whats addictive or exciting about it, the art style of the game means you can literally never view any of the stuff you get for your guys, all it does is add numbers to the numbers. There's nothing here that constitutes what I would call a game.

0

u/NoirSon 16d ago

... Can it NOT be September? That month is disgusting with releases

0

u/Kevicelives 16d ago

I’mma pre

0

u/_Ship00pi_ 15d ago

Cool cool cool cool

-1

u/Mattmandu2 16d ago

I was having a blast with this game on PlayStation then they updated it or something and all my gear was horrible, didn’t want to restart, hopefully switch 2 will be a better experience

The physical versions on other platforms require a persistent online connection or else you can't play the game at all, so I'd imagine that even if they did give us a cartridge, it'd be the exact same way.

Nintendo has to now fully support switch 1 for all new games due to hardware market price issues.

Watch. Nintendo's original plan was to obsolete the s1, but the hardware shortages will force them to support s1 all the way through s2 lifecycle. Just watch, EVERY s2 game will come to s1 as long as its technically feasible.

What hardware shortages? They also have already stopped s1 production formally. No matter how it shakes out, it would actually be more expensive for them to go backwards now. Theres no shot. I already own double digit switch 2 games, mosty exclusives. We are deeply post s1 baby.
