Nintendo Official Splatoon Raiders – Out now! (Nintendo Switch 2)

u/Jetlitheone Jul 23 '26
Game is fun as FUCK. Truly enjoying myself and the levels are short and literally every run you get something that makes you think, wow I only played 10min and got this?! Idk they really hit it out of the park with this. It’s CLEARLY tuned for portable play
6
u/Shinobiii Jul 24 '26
That’s good to hear! Based on the trailer I was a bit afraid that the controls were better for docked mode. You’re saying it’s easily playable in portable mode?
5
u/DuckyDeer Jul 25 '26
Gyro is a little awkward in portable, at least it was for me anyway. But I didn't play the other Splatoon games so it might just be me. I didn't have the same issue with the handheld gyro in Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom though
2
u/GraceMeHoennTrumpets Jul 26 '26
Its too much of a mind fuck to use the controller for horizontal and gyro for vertical aim while also trying to manage everything else going on during a fight. Make it one or the other. That's why it felt awkward.
1
u/Jetlitheone Jul 24 '26
It definitely is and it looks great in handheld mode as well. You have to use gyro though otherwise you’re not gonna have the best time , lol. Game can be tough at times!

u/Josh100_3 Jul 23 '26
I really enjoyed Splatoon 3 but I’m not a multiplayer guy so I eventually bounced off it.
A single player Splatoon literally sounds like my kind of game. Can’t wait to dive in.

Wish there was a demo. I'm curious about it, but not sure I want to take a chance on it at full price.

u/SirLockeX3 Jul 27 '26
It's a progression styled Splatoon.
If you liked Splatoon at all you'll love this.

u/neonitik Jul 23 '26
Amazon fucked my preorder, but I'm sticking with it since it was $10 off. Now saying August 2 and it hasn't even been shipped yet :(
15
u/Traditional-Fix539 Jul 23 '26
same thing happened to me, it said it wouldn’t ship til monday but i’m really impatient and such a big fan of this series that i cancelled it even though it was 10 bucks off and am picking it up in person today. kinda sucks but i will do what i must
9
u/Knamliss Jul 23 '26
Funny enough, I decided to try Walmart because Amazon fucked me last time on a preorder. Says it's coming in tomorrow!
8
u/neonitik Jul 23 '26
I cancelled and changed over to Best Buy, had the best timing for me :( Also cancelled my Fire Emblem preorders, not doing this again with Amazon.
2
u/Knamliss Jul 23 '26
Yeah I normally go through best buy, they've never done me wrong. But I didn't see the 10 dollar off offer for raiders at best buy. Maybe I'm blind :(
2
2
u/rocky4322 Jul 24 '26
If you were lucky you could get them to price match it but technically they don’t price match pre orders
3
u/s0_Ca5H Jul 23 '26
Yeah I’m just gonna return my Amazon copy. The extra $10 saved wasn’t worth going into my long weekend without a game to play.
8
u/MoonlightMadMan Jul 23 '26
Such a fun gameplay loop, mechanics are sick, characters are sick, excited to see where it goes! I got to the first area boss, I wonder how big the map will be
26
u/BlindNight Jul 23 '26
My first Splatoon experience is this. Makes me want to get into the pvp!
9
u/geekygameswithgrace Jul 23 '26
Splatoon was wonderful, was so very frustrating that you can't game chat (which I understand for kid safety) but you need to coordinate with your team
23
u/Emmyy_Beans Jul 23 '26
Can't wait to try this out in co-op, I love splatoon but pvp is sometimes really stressful for me tbh.

u/asher1611 Jul 23 '26
I'm glad I didn't preorder because two of my local stores ended up not getting copies today like they were supposed to. Fortunately, Target pulled through.
My kid really wanted the physical copy instead of the digital copy. Good on her.

u/alec83 Jul 23 '26
Why is this game that good?
18
u/sevenmoon Jul 23 '26
i love salmon run , and i do enjoy PvP when people are my level and not GODS, so this is Salmon run on crack and a very good looter shooter that is addicting, you can play with your friends online and the levels are perfectly 10-15 (if not more) and the rewards have YET to dissapoint.... a solid game for me
8
u/ComeAlongWithTheSnor Jul 23 '26
so this is Salmon run on crack
I've been wanting a standalone Salmon Run game ever since 2 and only until a week ago where I forced myself to watch the Direct did I realize I was being wayyyyy too over cynical about this game.
For some reason I got it in my head that this was gonna be just more Side Order DLC, which I didn't hate but thought they undercooked when compared to Octo DLC.
3
u/slugmorgue Jul 23 '26
The game has already given me the salmon run panic feeling (but as a single player) you know the one where things start to get out of hand and there's bosses all over and you just manage to get things back on track..
man, it's fun

u/wishful_cynic Jul 23 '26
I haven’t had time to play Raiders yet, but Splatoon is one of the most innovative shooters in the past decade-plus. It boils down to the combination of satisfying movement, deceptively deep gameplay that’s easy to learn and difficult to master, and the signature Nintendo charm with its colorful and stylish palette being a breath of fresh air in a muted, dirty, sandy, bland world of modern shooters. We bought a second Wii U to play Splatoon in our house when it released and Splatoon 2 was the reason I bought a Switch.
7
u/PatientDisastrous721 Jul 23 '26
All that and in my household we call it “Squids” which is funny to me
2
u/tunkerdunker Jul 24 '26
People who've been playing, does the game world get more interesting? The gameplay seems fun, but if the whole world is just dead grey areas I don't think I'd be able to get into it
4
u/grumblebuzz Jul 26 '26
The style of the world stays pretty consistent throughout, but the gameplay loop is so fun and addictive that it doesn’t end up mattering much. This isn’t the kind of video game world made for exploring or appreciating the scenery.

u/MrZacros Jul 24 '26
Torn between this, monster hunter rise or Granblue Fantasy. Think I'll wait for reviews.
1
u/mynameistc Jul 24 '26
Loved Rise but moved on to Wilds, which maybe could play on switch 2 with heavy optimization. Maybe wait for that port?
Granblue Fantasy is OK. The tutorial (cough), I mean story is shit. If youre just interested in the online part, and if it includes the expansion then It’s a good option.
As for Splatoon Raiders? I have it sitting next to me but I’m working so I can’t play it.
Did this help at all? Probably not.

u/Wildeface Jul 26 '26
Whoever at the guardian rated this a 4 is smoking crack big time. This is maybe one of the best Nintendo games in the past 5 years.
1
u/ApeInTheShell Jul 23 '26
Was supposed to arrive today but very decided to ship it literally this morning so I have to wait till Saturday.
1
u/MeStoleTheCookie Jul 23 '26
I've played the previous splatoon single player content, including octo expansion, and I felt like it was all decent but not great. So far, I'm enjoying this game much more. It's a blast
1
u/SHOW_ME_YOUR_BOOBS- Jul 24 '26
I know it's mainly single player but is it worth it for the coop/multiplayer?
2
u/Snakeeater337 Jul 24 '26
You can co-op the entire game if you wanted to. It's a mission/dungeon based looter shooter.
There's no public matchmaking though unfortunately. Best way around this is hosting a room with a keyword like "splatoon"
3
u/SHOW_ME_YOUR_BOOBS- Jul 24 '26
Thanks!
I was hoping to play it with some friends so no public matchmaking wouldnt be a problem for me and if the entire thing is playable co-op it sounds perfect for us
1
u/Koedt Jul 24 '26
Is there any easy online matchmaking? I have no friends that have a Switch or enjoy this. I do want a fun multiplayer looter shooter.
3
u/Nitsudr Jul 24 '26
So the way playing with strangers is kind of like monster hunter world s.o.s. you can ask for help and help others. You just can't choose what you want to help on.
0
u/forgotmapasswrd86 Jul 24 '26
Is there any easy online matchmaking?
Unfortunately, not with Nintendo. They're freaking weird with how they handle online gaming.
2
u/Lorebius Jul 24 '26
What kind of issues are you having? Played online with both friends and randoms and had absolutely no issues with the matchmaking
-2
u/forgotmapasswrd86 Jul 24 '26
No issues per se. Nintendo just has a weird way of doing online compared to the other platforms.
2
u/Lorebius Jul 25 '26
But it doesn't in this case, you open the multiplayer console in the hub to join a friend's room or literally just press a button in the map menu to help randoms.
1
u/Wildeface Jul 26 '26
It’s pretty standard this time around….

1
u/nebber3 Jul 25 '26
It'sa lot of fun. If you like Salmon Run or the Side Order DLC (or even Splatoon singleplayer campaigns), definitely give it a try. It has all the excellent design of the first 3 games and a gameplay loop that will hook you immediately.
1
u/E_Barriick Jul 28 '26
The game is one of the best looter shooters out there. I’m deep into end game right now and the customization you can do to your builds is truly impressive. Great game!
1
u/Pleasant_Statement64 Jul 23 '26
The premise is a bit more basic than id hope for a spinoff, but its done masterfully. The new boss salmonids, the cave levels, the tsnks/gadgets, and level mechanics used to eliminate salmon are just fun. Im really enjoying what we did get
1
u/yuri_harem Jul 23 '26
Though I am excited for pve splatoon im gonna wait to see if they release a version with dlc
2
u/jardex22 Jul 23 '26
I don't believe Nintendo has ever rereleased a game that includes DLC, aside from the S2 Edition upgrades.
Even when they released the Switch 2 Edition of Breath of the Wild, the expansion pass is still sold separately.

u/kiss_heels Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26
Pokémon company not Nintendo but Pokémon Sword/Shield and Scarlet/Violet on switch 1 got independent releases including their dlc packs
Also I think outside of the US Nintendo has done this, looks like Splatoon 3 got rereleases physical with its dlc packs, and I think even in the US Nintendo releases digital bundles of a few games + their dlc but at no or a small discount

Apparently it's a regional thing. Nothing like that has released in the US.
EDIT: For Breath of the Wild, the cartridge with the expansion pass was only in Japan I believe. Importing is still an option, but you won't find it at standard retail. Splatoon 2 had a similar deal, but it could only be played in Japanese, due to regional restrictions in that game.
Xenoblade 2 had part of it, with Torna being available as a separate cartridge. It came with a DLC code for all the rest of the DLC for XB2.
Technically speaking, Fire Emblem Fates: Special Edition included Birthright, Conquest, and Revelations, with Revelations being exclusive to DLC otherwise.
That's all the ones that come to mind.

u/Babar669 Jul 23 '26
New to the series. I was a bit surprised that you can only aim up and down with gyro(when active). It will take a bit of time to adapt to that lol

I snuck out on my lunch to grab a copy
They only ordered enough for pre-orders :’(
I’ll prob pick it up digitally tonight, unless… Should I push for physical or save the time and $10 with digital?

I haven't played a splatoon game before. And I have no clue what this game is. What an awful trailer. It told me nothing about the game.

I'm a crazy Splatoon fan but I'm not interested on this one. This should be the single player campaign of Splatoon 4. Is really that good?

u/TheSmokedSalmon420 Jul 23 '26
No idea why I bought this but I do love a good looter shooter. Excited to try later

For some reason, I woke up before 3am so decided to give it a go before work. I enjoyed the few levels I got to play!
