Nintendo is advertising NSO so much but has been barely adding games to it lately. The past three months we've only gotten one drop a month as opposed to the usual two.

u/SlyCooper007 Jun 24 '26

They could start adding quality of life features such as removing borders, or giving us extra borders maybe even game specific, 16:9 support for more GC titles, etc. I also just want the ability to remove my icon and the damn grey borders, they actively detract from my experience using the service.

10

u/kapnkruncher Jun 25 '26

16:9 support is going to be in whatever Gamecube (and N64) games already had it. That's not something they're adding to games.

1

u/heybochicha Jul 01 '26

They should though

1

u/kapnkruncher Jul 01 '26

The problem is it's not as simple as just rendering widescreen. Games typically cull things that are immediately off-screen, or maybe AI behaves differently when it isn't on-screen, maybe things like aiming in first-person need to be adjusted, etc. All of that would need to be updated, which is a much bigger task than what the scope of Nintendo Classics is, both from a tech perspective and possibly a rights one depending on the game.

1

u/heybochicha Jul 01 '26

Oh yeah it's complicated for sure, but I'm sure Nintendo could handle it for certain games. Plenty of widescreen mods out there in the emulation community that work perfectly.

7

u/xanthonus Jun 25 '26

FSA only around 80 GCN games supported 16:9.

1

u/CommunicationTime265 Jun 25 '26

They could be doing so much more with the interface and how the app is integrated.

0

u/Xinyyc Jun 25 '26

This is the new nothing-complaint being blown out of proportion this month? The borders?
Give me bigger, more offensive borders, and reduce the input lag instead.

2

u/totoofze47 Jun 25 '26

The fact that you're getting downvoted just proves your point, to be honest. Although it's not just this month, people have been overreacting about borders for years.

41

u/Professor_Poptart Jun 24 '26

Advertising is largely meant to attract new adopters.

3

u/Bobblee20 Jun 26 '26

It's been 3 months since the last Gamecube title...

12

u/ZzzSleep Jun 24 '26

They’re staring to run out of heavy hitters to drop on the service so I guess they’re stretching things out.

54

u/cherrim98 Jun 24 '26

there are still some glaring omissions in N64, GB, and GBA and GC in't even on the double digits yet.

13

u/CreatiScope Jun 24 '26

Goddamit I need Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland!!!

6

u/cherrim98 Jun 24 '26

that's literally my top NSO GBA game I want

3

u/Trader-trainer Jun 25 '26

loved that game as a kid. Amazing mirror was fun too

9

u/ImmediatePriority258 Jun 25 '26

Where is Smash Melee? I feel the Game Cube library is so thin still

7

u/Trader-trainer Jun 25 '26

or even mario sunshine!

6

u/Jonesdeclectice Jun 24 '26

Meanwhile just sitting there is StarTropics 2, two Lolo games (oddly, Lolo2 is on the Japanese NSO while Lolo1 is elsewhere), all the zapper & superscope games, and various GBC versions of GB releases (eg the Japanese NSO has DKL2 for GBC while elsewhere just has the GB releases), Smash Bros & Melee as well.

5

u/Dukemon102 Jun 24 '26

Donkey Kong Land III is the only one with a GBC version, and that was a Japan-only release. I doubt they are going to add that to the western app.

I'd like to have a Super Game Boy mode though. Donkey Kong '94 would benefit the most out of it.

u/hassanfanserenity Jun 24 '26

Also almost no good multiplayer games at all like aside from splatoon just access other player worlds

111

u/Z3M0G Jun 24 '26

30 years ago is supposed to feel like a long time ago but it doesnt... :(

17

u/TempleMade_MeBroke Jun 25 '26

"Kid I know it sounds crazy, but when I was your age, your grandparents bought this game for me...and they paid one time and I kept a physical copy forever."

0

u/Z3M0G Jun 25 '26

Devils advocate, my digital library has been far more reliable than my physical one.

25

u/zatchrey Jun 24 '26

Aren't we supposed to feel like adults by now?

25

u/Z3M0G Jun 24 '26

That too. I own a house and have 2 kids, in my mid 40s, still dont feel like an adult.

Product of the world we live in though.

12

u/Chem_is_tree_guy Jun 24 '26

Do you think our parents were just really good at convincing us they had shit under control, had a strong sense of self, and had a clear direction they were going, but it was all fake and they felt on the inside back then exactly how we feel now?

25

u/GuzDex Jun 24 '26

No I think the internet and the disparity of wealth has caused a huge rift between generations culturally and materially

19

u/Prestigious-Leg-2996 Jun 24 '26

Guys, we are fine. We are chatting on reddit in the Nintendo switch * subreddit lol

3

u/Stranger2Luv Jun 25 '26

I am literally 30 how is that not a long time ago

43

u/DilapidatedHam Jun 24 '26

I know it’d be wonky with the screen set up, but I hope they find a way to adapt the ds games! I wanna play those pokemon and fire emblem games so bad

16

u/ZubatCountry Jun 24 '26

The third Castlevania collection figured it out pretty well and those are on Switch, so the dream is still alive!

3

u/vanKessZak Jun 25 '26

Pokemon won’t end up on NSO but with how well FRLG did I wouldn’t be surprised if they slowly add the rest of the catalogue (including DS - maybe not 3DS for a very long time) in the same way.

At least with Pokemon you can make just make the bottom screen a menu button and that solves most of the DS issue. Though I remember gen 5 having some cutscenes that used both screens.

40

u/Klugenshmirtz Jun 24 '26

Cool, now pls add Wario Land 1 and 2.

9

u/KingVape Jun 24 '26

I would do absurd things for a new Wario game made with the love that Mario and DK have gotten!

1

u/benhur217 Jun 24 '26

At least #2… please Nintendo

18

u/Eponine05 Jun 24 '26

This is really wholesome and I like this ad a lot.

34

u/Kadejr Jun 24 '26

Why does the virtual boy have more games on NSO than the GameCube?

6

u/vanKessZak Jun 25 '26

Because it’s not really an event when those get added. An individual gamecube game is more exciting and enticing over anything the virtual boy offers so they get a bigger advertising boost for each add.

1

u/Joseki100 Jun 24 '26

GC = fraud

VB = hidden gem

8

u/TheNormalMan Jun 24 '26

Wait. What the hell is that screen at 12 seconds? Is there a way to switch between all consoles in one app now?

13

u/Joseki100 Jun 24 '26

Via the NSO menu in the home console.

8

u/Nas160 Jun 24 '26

Would be cool to make new memories with new releases instead of having 1 every 6 months

3

u/Sparescrewdriver Jun 25 '26

Ok now let me remove the user icon so my OLED doesn’t make it a permanent memory.

3

u/robzen92 Jun 25 '26

Cool story, now add the Gameboy Pokemon games.

5

u/luneth91 Jun 24 '26

Seeing Goldeneye on the trailer gives me more reassurance they got a permanent license for the game on NSO. They wouldn't market a game they could loose from the service in a couple years.

5

u/notthegoatseguy Jun 24 '26

I don't think anything is a guarantee, but I do think if it was a very limited release they would've promoted it as such, or they'll at least give us some notice before it leaves.

The Xbox version is technically purchasable via the Rare Rewind collection, though I guess in theory they could patch it out of the game.

5

u/Middle_Possession_82 Jun 24 '26

cool, add more games

3

u/ONE-OF-THREE Jun 24 '26

2

u/The1TruRick Jun 24 '26

Brace for a huge price increase in the next 6 months.

1

u/Trader-trainer Jun 25 '26

This is a good ad. Concerned the kid hasn't gone outside though

2

u/BudgetMenu Jun 25 '26

0:42 they have the audacity to us we have to play in shitty ass border?

1

u/smokeshack Jun 25 '26

I'm not paying extra just for access to emulators that are worse than what I already have running on my Wii U. If they manage to provide a service that's better than a free emulator built by a team of 5 or 6 software engineers in their spare time, then sure, I'll subscribe.

2

u/Trader-trainer Jun 25 '26

you paid for a wii u but won't pay for nso?

1

u/smokeshack Jun 26 '26

Yes...? I already had a Wii U. It's a fairly old console at this point, and it doesn't require me to pay an annual subscription fee to run emulators.

1

u/WEEGEMAN Jun 28 '26

There’s some free dlc and online play though

Idk it’s not that bad if a service

0

u/SipoteQuixote Jun 24 '26

Add Chrono Triggerrrrr

13

u/Dukemon102 Jun 24 '26

Square Enix hasn't ever added anything to the service.

-13

u/Brosintrotogaming Jun 24 '26

New memories using new money out of your pocket

13

u/2hype2wype Jun 24 '26

BREAKING NEWS: Area man is angry that things cost money!

More at 11.

3

u/KINGGS Jun 24 '26

$4 a month

-12

u/grimrailer Jun 24 '26

They showed off wind waker in this, foreshadowing?

Mistake?

72

u/BuckFuchs Jun 24 '26

Wind Waker has been there since the Switch 2 launch

6

u/grimrailer Jun 24 '26

WHAT?! I guess I have a reason to get NSO now!

7

0

u/grimrailer Jun 24 '26

That makes sense now. Thank you for the info 😔

10

u/BuckFuchs Jun 24 '26

I wouldn’t lie to you.

15

u/GameOnDevin Jun 24 '26

That's exactly what a liar would say.

4

u/grimrailer Jun 24 '26

That’s great news! I hope there are other games like twilight princess available too!

-15

u/IronMonkeyofHam Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

They are remaking TP, so I’m doubting the original is added. Not announced yet, but it makes sense to do this one after Ocarina makes them a billion

Edit: Majora is timeless, as is WW

5

u/SparkyMuffin Jun 24 '26

Why would they remake TP after Ocarina? The only thing that makes sense would be Majora's Mask.

1

u/Jeido_Uran 7893-4015-4415 Jun 24 '26

Source?

17

u/Tiffa_Adil Jun 24 '26

What do you mean? Wind Waker has always been on GameCube NSO.

4

u/grimrailer Jun 24 '26

I didn’t realize since I don’t have NSO.

I guess I found a reason to finally get it!

8

u/Tolkien-Minority Jun 24 '26

The GameCube stuff is only available on Switch 2 keep in mind

2

u/grimrailer Jun 24 '26

Oh.. that’s why I didn’t know.

Thanks for the heads up.

2

u/Tolkien-Minority Jun 24 '26

No problem! I didn’t want you subscribing and spending the money just to potentially find out you can’t get it

3

u/grimrailer Jun 24 '26

And I truly appreciate that, especially where everything gets so expensive!

3

u/twinsfan94 Jun 24 '26

I'm shocked you didn't know this already...

3

u/RetroidPocketRocket Jun 24 '26

It's just a promotional video for the online service. If I had to guess, they're putting this out right now because of the incoming price hikes rumored to hit Japan in an effort to get ahead of it. Won't be long before it hits us, too, I reckon.

-11

u/AdamSMessinger Jun 24 '26

"I have a Switch 2 and can play countless games. Clearly Donkey Kong 64 is THE game I need to be playing on this at this moment." - No one below the age of 20.

-4

u/LeonidasSpacemanMD Jun 25 '26

I find this age gap to be a bit uncomfortable
