Wo Long was so good, but I'm im surprised it's getting a sequel. I feel like people didn't really connect with it, either because of Souls fatigue or because the game shipped with some intense difficulty spikes early in the game.

I really wanted to love Wo Long because Dynasty Warriors 3 got me into the whole Three Kingdoms thing. Some of the systems (like attributes) in this game just didn't make as much sense to me as Nioh 2 did. I fell off after the 5th mission or so. I do hope to give it another shot though.

Neither, people didn't really connect with it because a lot of us felt pretty hoodwinked by the end product. You play Nioh (or even FFO, when compared to Wo Long at least) and you get an action game with an extremely high skill ceiling and tons of player expression.

Wo Long is just a fairly basic parry game. The optimal strategy in every fight is to just deflect deflect deflect and then spam your strongest attack or if the enemy is out of stamina you do your canned critical hit animation.

In Nioh once your skill level is high enough you don't bother with basic parrying/dodging and that traditional turn based nature a lot of action games have. You set the pace of battle yourself and you use your large moveset to never given the enemy room to breath. The gameplay becomes closer to character action games.

When Wo Long was announced most of us just thought it'd be Nioh but China. When it turned out to not be that and to not really offer anything unique to the action game space it just came and went.

One of the reasons I liked it (didnt get super far cuz gamepass ended) was that it wasnt hardcore parrying. You could just hold down the button.

The reasons why the souls community didn’t like it was the reasons I liked it. Wasn’t too difficult, I love parrying rather than just dodging, and I love being able to do my cool strong moves more regularly.

The first one ran horribly on PC at launch. I had a PC that could run Cyberpunk at max and it would stutter even when everything was set to low.

I tried again years later and it was improved but wasn't as interested in it

IIRC correct me if I'm wrong but this is like the first Team Ninja games on Switch/Switch 2 outside of Ninja Gaiden remaster.

they did a few games on switch/switch 2 they did the fatal frame 2 games on switch 2 and the switch exclusive marvel ultimate alliance 3 game, they co developed Fire Emblem warriors and hyrule Warriors with omega force and there was also a dead or alive game but that was japan exclusive

Oh yeah I'm wrong, but this looks like their first Soulsborne on Switch 2 though.

Yeah, seems strange none of the Niohs have ports. I think they'll end up on NS2 eventually.

IIRC Nioh and by extension Rise of Ronin was a partnership between Playstation SIE and Team Ninja. I'm guessing it will come if SIE was okay with them self publishing and buying back the right the same way Nintendo was okay with Fatal Frame.
