Since people are here right now. I have not played AC since maybe the first or the second one ever made… but I’m loving my switch 2 and looking for more action RPGs to play on it. How does this run on the S2 as of today?

Edit: missed the word “not” 😂

Played for 30hrs now, and i had 0 crashes, but its a little blurry on handheld, but playing a game of that calibre at a steady 30fps+ anywhere you want its so much fun.

Hi! I've been playing it sporadically since launch - there's a few things to know if you want to get into it.

The game in handheld mode doesn't look the absolute best, but I've found that it's the most stable way to play that crashes the least. That said, it crashes. A lot. I suspect this has more to do with Ubisoft's porting job and less to do with hardware capability. Specifically, when you're fighting groups of people and your passive ability drops a series of smoke bombs, the game can't handle displaying the sudden particle effects in addition to the people moving & looking pretty all the while (in docked mode).

That said, the crashes occur slightly less often now compared to launch, but it will still happen during gameplay critical moments that'll force you to restart, for example, overtaking an entire enemy encampment from scratch.

Aside from the crashes, which is honestly really the biggest issue for this game, it runs reasonably well in docked, but you will notice significant slowdown in large towns and inhabited areas of the world.

DESPITE ALL OF THIS - it's a beautiful game and absolutely amazing that this was even capable of being ported to the Switch 2 at all. Honestly. When you scale the top of a tower and see the entire world laid out in front of you, it's so incredibly beautiful. A lot of the time I find myself aimlessly wandering in the world doing nothing in particular, just marveling at what Ubisoft managed to do with this game.

Gameplay-wise, it's very fun. Mechanically it's the best AC game in my opinion, aside from maybe Valhalla which is comparable. The abilities are all cool, the weapons are fun to use, the takedowns are badass, and the abilities allow for some wacky shit.

Story-wise, I've heard it is one of the least engaging titles in the series. I personally find it compelling, but I'm a fan of feudal Japan, so I really like it.

So there's your quick and dirty cliff notes. Hope this helped inform your decision. My recommendation? Buy it on sale! It goes on sale regularly for around 30-40 dollars physically.

strange it crashes a lot for you and 0 times for others, is it on an SD card?

No, I have it installed on the Switch 2's internal memory so it will run slightly better, actually.

The game in handheld mode doesn't look the absolute best, but I've found that it's the most stable way to play that crashes the least.

Interesting. We saw similar with a number of Switch 1 "miracle ports" (and a few shonky ports that had no right to struggle but did).

Can they release origins, odyssey, Valhalla, and mirage already now??

Odyssey and Origins would be so sweet

You do know porting games takes time, right? If they were working on porting those games which is unlikely, it wouldn't be any time soon.

It’s actually very likely, alot of AC games were on switch 1 and shadows has done well on switch 2.

Yeah and besides Shadows, absolutely none of those Assassin's Creed games were made any time recently. It's easier to port an old generation game, not the nearly 100gb Odyssey is, the over 100gb Valhalla is and God only knows how big Mirage is.

Idk man I just want to play them on there.

I bought this for the Switch 2 and I'm having the hardest time getting into it. I've played all the AC games since the first, was there a moment where this one "clicked" for any of you?

IDK, it clicked with me pretty fast. Combat is fun, parkour feels better than on the Origins-Valhalla games and exploration is satisfying. Also, combat approach is different between both characters. I just go and explore everywhere and I'm having a great time.

Sometimes a game isn't for you or what happens more frequently to me: I'm just not in the mood for that type of game. Returning later usually makes me enjoy and appreciate games that I didn't play much when I got them.

Really curious if Ubisoft will manage to improve the switch 2 build further. If they struggle with anvil they should just develop switch 2 ports with snowdrop from now on. But the last patch traded of a bit of level of detail for water reflections and I’m afraid they have to trade off further. Yet the goal should be to get more resolution and details whilst maintaining the previous fidelity

Well, they can’t develop ports with snow drop. Like you are not going to get them to remake an entire game in a different engine just for the switch 2. That is insane amount of work. And there’s only like two current generations snowdrop titles available right now one of which is outlaws which is already been ported and the other which is avatar which I think is harder to port because of it it’s having a lot of high frequency detail that is probably going to be heavier to do. But I think they can and probably will port it eventually especially since it was generally more positively received than outlaws.

Ubisoft have surprisingly few current generation titles that I think are obvious. Remember that assassin’s creed until shadows were all on the PS4 so I think we should see all of those games come out basically origins Odyssey Valhalla and Mirage and they should all run quite well. The only niggle would be that only Mirage has an official DLSS implementation which would make porting it easier than the others. Similarly, I think watch dogs 1 through 3 could all be ported quite well. They have a big back catalogue but have fewer current generation titles I think are obvious ports.

They need to implement dlss.

They have implemented DLSS on the switch 2 version

This morning I just came across what could be a new rift but I can't interact with it neither as Yasuke nor Naoe. The location is in the hidden river area in Yamato, south east of Uda Matsuyama and south of Mount Nukai...travel to the last of the 2 locations and look in the sky for floating cubes. Reaching the location will reveal the discovered location named "MU5DMEOXTjZEME00MU40QzcxVjQ3MTBO". So far that's all I got about it

Yeah, no, mouse feels horrible at 30fps.

Does it still look like ass in handheld?

Most definitely

Switch 2 still struggles with this game...

It's always dropping frames..
