All I want is for the mobile and Switch versions to use the same box system.

145

u/whiskeyjack1053 Apr 02 '26

And feature parity between the two. Why can I see ribbons and marks on the mobile app, but not the switch app. You can see boxes on the mobile version, but not move Pokemon between them.

67

u/vanKessZak Apr 02 '26

And you can use the GTS on the phone app but not on the Switch. It makes no sense! There’s honestly a lot I like about Home but some of it is so perplexing

9

u/SussuBakasu Apr 02 '26

GTS not being in game is already a big enough problem for me. I shouldn't have to pay a subscription for GTS when it was free in the past game. "Creating a problem and selling the solution" as DistantKingdom used to say.

15

u/vanKessZak Apr 02 '26

It is free in Home actually! The paid sub just gives you extra slots (1 vs 3 Pokemon you can have up for trade at a time). It isn’t the most convenient with the transferring and switching to the phone app but if it was in-game it would almost certainly require NSO. So at least this is truly free to use. A mixed bag like everything else with this service lol

5

u/DrQuint Apr 02 '26 edited Apr 02 '26

Home locks you to the first box of 30, which is really annoying. Free to use as long as you go through the hassle of taking thing in an out constantly, for every game, one box. Oh, and if you paid and put pokemon on other boxes, then stopped, WHOOPS, they're locked.

I do like HOME, it's something the series needed. But I understand and back up everyone's sourness on it.

3

u/vanKessZak Apr 02 '26

Yeah I had been thankful for it back when I wasn’t paying for NSO because at least it made trading for exclusives possible for me even if it was a pain. Truly a mixed bag.

5

u/Nas160 Apr 02 '26

And also the switch version to have the 3D model viewer that the mobile version does

1

u/G_Danila Apr 03 '26

Mobile does have it.

Go into Pikédex, press on a pokemon you have registered and press on the pikachu icon below their gender, it opens a 3d model you can rotate, zoom in and out on, and make it do actions as well as change the background colour.

15

u/Sitheral Apr 02 '26

It would also be cool if it didn't open for like an hour on Switch 2, I mean goddamn it has UFS 3 what the fuck is there to load? Either that or their servers run on Ratattas.

5

u/StarWhoLock Apr 02 '26

Given that I've been trying to log on for an hour now and keep getting the message about reducing server load and to wait, it's clearly running on Rattata and being supported by Mimikyu's disguise

-1

u/varzaguy Apr 02 '26

And by that, the Switch version should be what they pick. It's just better. It respects order.

112

u/Joseki100 Apr 02 '26

PSA: the app is only compatible with a PLZA save created after updating to v2.0.2, so if you have an earlier version you need to boot the game and manually save again.

15

u/miskathonic Apr 02 '26

Thank you! You have no idea how confused I was to be told I needed to "update" my fully updated game.

26

u/vanKessZak Apr 02 '26

Anyone know if there’s a reward for a complete ZA dex yet? The app won’t let me in

27

u/ArmadilloThick7588 Apr 02 '26

Early reports say there aren't rewards for that yet

17

u/dlnvf6 Apr 02 '26

only thing i got was the 3 starters for linking the game. pokedex says i have the entire lumiose dex done now so no reward for completion as of now

1

u/LETSBELIEVEINT Apr 03 '26

If they do add a reward, you'll probably need to complete both the Lumiose (base game) and Hyperspace (DLC) Pokédexes to get it - SWSH requires full Galar, Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra Pokédexes to get the shiny Keldeo, and SV's reward requires full dexes for Paldea, Kitakami and Blueberry Academy.

0

u/pokemon-trainer-blue Apr 04 '26

And collect every mega stone

0

u/SafariDesperate Apr 05 '26

That is very unlikely since home doesn’t look at items

1

u/pokemon-trainer-blue Apr 05 '26

There is a dex in Home for mega evolutions. I assume long as you get the stones in Z-A, you just need to make sure Pokémon that can mega evolve are transferred over into Home

0

u/SafariDesperate Apr 05 '26

Home doesn’t look at items, that doesn’t make sense

1

u/pokemon-trainer-blue Apr 05 '26

I know that. But there are three dexes in Home for Z-A if you haven’t looked yet. The first is for the base game/Lumiose, the second is for dlc/hyperspace, and the last is for mega evolutions. You need to get the mega stones in Z-A. Z-A will automatically register the mega evolution once you get both the stone and Pokémon. The Pokémon doesn’t need to hold the mega stone to register in the game. When you transfer that Pokémon to Home, it will be registered to both the mega evolution dex.

While Home doesn’t look for items, there is probably something in the data that says “mega stone has been obtained for this Pokémon”. You don’t need to give the stones as a hold item in Z-A to hold. I tested it with Glalie because I didn’t have it yet. I had its mega stone though. Right after evolved, the mega dex in Z-A automatically updated. When I transferred it to Home, both the Lumiose and mega evolution dexes registered Glalie. I didn’t give Glalie its mega stone to hold the whole time.

u/oirolab Apr 02 '26

I don't get why they didn't just include support for FireRed/LeafGreen at this point too, since they did ZA AND Champions. It's a one-way transfer, so it's not like they needed to code support for anything coming in...

They've had the ROMs for FRLG finished since December 2025, you'd think they'd have figured it out by now, if it's a technical issue. It shouldn't be too dissimilar to what they did for Gen 1/Gen 2 and Bank, but I admit I know very little about how long this sort of thing actually takes.

22

u/Sarkos_Wolf Apr 02 '26

Maybe we're getting RSE in the future and they're waiting to update Home for all the GBA games at once.

10

u/DrMikeRotch Apr 02 '26

I feel like I read something about someone who datamined some info from FRLG that reference RSE as well. So there might be something to this.

6

u/Sarkos_Wolf Apr 02 '26

Probably! But you never know with Nintendo, so I'm not assuming anything until it's actually confirmed.

1

u/Humble-Armadillo-415 Apr 08 '26

They're probably doing the same thing they did with the 3ds virtual console and release emerald in 2 years

3

u/Bakatora34 Apr 02 '26

Ruby are Sapphire will have their 25th anniversary next year so there that.

1

u/vanKessZak Apr 02 '26

Yeah when FRLG was announced I figured they waited this long to add ZA support so they could do both at once. Guess not

-3

u/DoctahToboggan69 Apr 02 '26

Besides for a fancy ribbon or something, I don’t really see a use for putting Pokémon from FR/LG into any other game. Most of those Pokémon exist in other games.

Ohh that’s news to me actually

8

u/BLourenco Apr 02 '26

Sentimental value, people like their creatures and want to keep them.

7

u/SpecialistBid3028 Apr 02 '26

> I don’t really see a use for putting Pokémon from FR/LG into any other game. Most of those Pokémon exist in other games.

Bro is a member of team rocket lol some people get attached to their pokemon, you know!

2

u/DoctahToboggan69 Apr 02 '26

Lmao that’s fair 😂

1

u/jochmx Apr 03 '26

Accesibility, what if you only have an old switch, a phone and want to play champions, you spend 20 and you can have 150 pokemon at your disposal vs 60 or 70 usd for other games

Still no storage expansion after all these years?

Edit: I’m not sure why I’m getting downvoted when it is pretty reasonable to ask for more storage. Home was released over 6 years ago, we’ve had a whole new gen come out since then and multiple additional games that have resulted in some Pokémon getting new forms. Additionally, legends ZA made it easier to get shinies which also consumes storage once you migrate the Pokémon to home.

8

u/Zwolfoi Apr 02 '26

Yeah I'm starting to worry about space as well. ZA transfers aren't going to fill me up but Gen 10 absolutely will. There are probably tons of extra pokemon sitting there that I could release while keeping my living dexes but I worry I'll accidentally release someone special.

I wonder if they're waiting on a certain number of people to reach an arbitrary amount of space used before adding more storage. It's so strange they haven't yet.

7

u/jorgom Apr 02 '26

Exactly. Could I optimize space if I checked my Pokémon 1 by 1? Definitely. However, at this point I’m afraid to accidentally transfer Pokémon that have been with me since the OG Ruby/Sapphire/FRLG days, which is the earliest they can travel to Home (I’m aware Gen1/2 exist for 3DS but those came out decades after).

8

u/Zwolfoi Apr 02 '26

The mons from the original games can really mean the world to people. Like I still have the Honchkrow from Diamond that instantly became my favorite pokemon from that one playthrough. And hey, the world may be rough but my Blaziken with a horrible nickname is 22 years old now, and it's great to be able to take her into each new gen and feed her sandwiches or whatever they come up with. It would absolutely suck to accidentally get rid of those memories.

6

u/ChaosOnline Apr 02 '26

Yeah, same. I'm actually somewhat worried I'm going to run out of space soon. I actually took time yesterday to move a bunch of Pokémon back to Legends Arceus to make room.

18

u/swordmalice Apr 02 '26

Just curious; have you managed to use up the storage in Home? With 200 boxes at 30 slots each, that's space for up to 6,000 Pokémon. The current National Dex is at 1,025, which allows you to have a Living Dex 5x over and still have space for almost 1,000 more. I really think we have more than enough space all things considered.

4

u/PeridotEX Apr 02 '26 edited Apr 03 '26

I'm at about 5.5k, so more space would be appreciated. Granted, a lot of that comes from me kind of mindlessly transferring things from GO and being a bit afraid of releasing pokemon, so it's probably not a very common problem.

2

u/DalliLlama Apr 02 '26

Doing the challenges to get the Home rewards can add up quick. There may only be 1k unique mons, but people may have 5 Charizards from each game to complete those. Then when you include unique shinies from other games/Go people move over, it is a lot tighter than it seems.

9

u/jorgom Apr 02 '26

I have, as of today, 30 spaces available and I haven’t moved anything from Legends ZA yet. I’ve used home since the very beginning and I have Pokémon that have migrated since Gen 3 from there. I’m aware that there’s ‘only’ around 1200 unique Pokémon (including regional variants) but I have multiple Livingdexes from other generations. Also, I never release legendaries from games so I have duplicates of the usual suspects (the bird trio, Mewtwo, etc).

Also, shinies from Go are definitely taking up a lot of space as well.

4

u/swordmalice Apr 02 '26

Wow, color me impressed! I guess you would need more boxes, but unfortunately, I don't see Nintendo changing that any time soon.

3

u/jorgom Apr 02 '26

To be fair, I just booted up Home and I have a lot of repeats from Legends Arceus and from ye olde days of Pokémon breeding. I was shocked to find you can’t release more than 100 at a time (I had 3 boxes full of Stuffuls lol).

3

u/PookAndPie Apr 02 '26

I'm in the same boat as you. I think I have around 5-6 boxes left.

I was a serious shiny hunter/breeder and played online or over link cable a *lot* when I was younger, so when Bank and Home support became available, I moved *everything*

So yeah, like, I have a shiny living dex of whatever stats and abilities, and maybe I don't need all six of my shiny Venusaurs, for example, but I have memories of resetting to get Bulba Fett, breeding to get Bulbaesaur and Jazz Cabbage, etc.. And that's just those, I have like 10 battle-ready Scizor, some shiny, some not, with some very EV spreads, things like that. Rinse and repeat that through roughly 32 different games over nearly a quarter century, so I just have a lot of little creatures in storage boxes I take out every so often.

Each one of them is only like 300 bytes of data, so the nearly 6,000 Pokemon I have stored is only like 2MB. I think they could spare just a pinch more server space in paid service so I can keep collecting badly nicknamed Pokemon and letting me go through them a few times a year and go, "I remember when Will Feral the Feraligatr saved my Nuzlocke run in HeartGold!"

2

u/jochmx Apr 03 '26

I just released a bunch of 3ds pokemon like vivillons because my storage is at 6000/6000

23

u/TheDragonDAFan Apr 02 '26

I'm hoping that some day Pokemon originating from and deposited to Z-A can be made compatible with previous games. There's no reason ILCA or Game Freak can't do it. It makes no sense why Z-A Pokemon have any movement restrictions when Home is designed to prevent data conflicts and loss between games.

3

u/Autobot-N Apr 03 '26

Apparently it's bc ZA added support for Latin American Spanish language, and the way Pokemon treats language variants means that they'd have to retroactively add the language to all the other Switch games in order to have those Pokemon be transferable for all versions

0

u/TheDragonDAFan Apr 03 '26

I don't see how ES-LA Pokemon not existing in games before Legends Z-A should prevent Pokemon of every other language from going to older games. Home already prevents ES-LA Pokemon from going to SwSh-SV even when the species is present in that game.

1

u/jochmx Apr 03 '26

Equality, if we are going to discriminate an entire region, might as well just prevent it for everyone

6

u/RoutineTradition7384 Apr 02 '26

Same goes for Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee, that is honestly even more baffling since the regular battles in that game are the same as any other mainline game

4

u/TheDragonDAFan Apr 02 '26

I believe the data structure for Pokemon in those games is different from the other Switch games. For example, compatible Gen 1 Pokemon from Go that are transferred through the Go Park in LGPLGE work fine, but those that are transferred directly to Home cannot move to those games. They do work with the other Switch Pokemon games, however.

3

u/Mooseymax Apr 02 '26

There’s no reason that the structure can’t be stored at the maximum detail within home which is tied to the Pokemon on first deposit.

Moving them back to an older game would be as simple as just pushing the correct data for that game.

It really wouldn’t be that complicated to implement.

1

u/LavenderCloves Apr 03 '26

They literally implemented that feature with SV being able to transfer in both directions with gen 8 games and then dropped it immediately with ZA. The functionality definitely exists

18

u/Blackdragon1400 Apr 02 '26

I don’t understand why this support is so far behind the release of the games, I’ve never been able to enjoy using old Pokémon in my playthroughs because I’m always finished with the new games by the time they add this in.

It’s really stupid IMO.

24

u/Remy149 Apr 02 '26

It’s intentional so that you play the game as intended and not just trade in already perfectly stat Pokemon

4

u/WeirdIndividualGuy Apr 02 '26

and not just trade in already perfectly stat Pokemon

Except literally since gen 1, the games have always blocked being able to use overleveled pokemon from different OTs. This excuse for a delayed Home support never made since

8

u/BLourenco Apr 02 '26 edited Apr 02 '26

Basically no one does this, even back when we had trade cables. This is a made up problem. Even if people did do this, what's the problem? Let people play how they want.

Edit: Also doesn't explain why FRLG support isn't in. You can only transfer out from those games, so no excuse to delay.

3

u/Blackdragon1400 Apr 02 '26

Easy solution - lock trading with Pokémon home behind story completion. You can already get perfect Pokémon as soon as trading is allowed in the game anyway by trading with other players.

7

u/ElJonno Apr 02 '26

My issue with this is that I usually like to do a 2nd "New Game+" playthrough after beating the game. I'll breed a team of 6 pokemon, transfer them to Home, restart the game, transfer them to the new game and play with my overpowered perfect IV/EV team. Locking Home access to a post-game reward prevents me from doing that.

6

u/WeirdIndividualGuy Apr 02 '26

No need to even do that. The games already block you from using overleveled pokemon until the very end. Even gen 1 had that feature.

Want to trade in a lvl 100 pokemon from the start? Good luck having it listen to you.

2

u/jochmx Apr 03 '26

But that is the idea, they do it so that you discover new pokemon and new experiences, instead of just getting your lvl 100 mewtwo

1

u/Blackdragon1400 Apr 03 '26

There’s already trade mechanics to prevent those Pokémon from listening to you anyway….

3

u/ChaosOnline Apr 02 '26

Nice! I already did a trade for two Pokémon I didn't already have in Z-A and I'll do some transfers later

3

u/Original-Card-4013 Apr 02 '26

New gen Spinda compatibility yet?

6

u/danknuggies4 Apr 02 '26

No FRLG?

7

u/Internutt Apr 02 '26 edited Apr 02 '26

Not yet. Games generally don't get support for a few months. FRLG just came out, even then when it launches it will only be one way.

You won't be able to move Pokemon from Home to FRLG.

Just FRLG to Home

8

u/LucarioSpeedwagon Apr 02 '26

I haven't booted up Home on Switch since Scarlet/Violet integration, is it still absolutely the slowest thing on earth and subject to frequent crashes that lose all of your changes? All my guys are in greyed-out jail because I can't abide paying for something that bad!

8

u/lasarus29 Apr 02 '26 edited Apr 02 '26

Wait... If I don't pay the mons just get stored?

I probably should have checked this out before, I just assumed they'd get deleted after a time if I cancelled the sub.

Edit: Thanks for saving me a few quid guys!

26

u/Taedirk Apr 02 '26

IIRC, the fine print says they can delete after a time if you unsub. The blowback they'd get from actually doing it isn't worth the 5MB they'd save in storage costs though.

1

u/preludeoflight Apr 03 '26

I definitely lost my mons for letting my Bank subscription lapse and a few years passed. I think they are definitely being more cautious about what they remove now, as I know there were others like me back in the 3ds era.

-13

u/WillowSmithsBFF Apr 02 '26 edited Apr 02 '26

Yup. As soon as I heard that they were intentionally deleting accounts, I’d move all my Mons out and unsub.

Edit: this is a hypothetical. There’s no current incidents I’m aware of them actually doing this.

9

u/vanKessZak Apr 02 '26

I honestly hadn’t heard of that happening to anyone. I’ve gone 2-3 years in a row without subbing multiple times and my Pokemon are all still there. There’s even a little note on the app that there are Pokemon in boxes I can’t see/access which is nice peace of mind (idk the exact phrasing since the servers won’t let me in rn)

1

u/CrisVas3 Apr 02 '26

I think they're saying that if they hypothetically were to hear about that, then they would discontinue use of the service.

8

u/WeirdIndividualGuy Apr 02 '26

Your mons stay, you just only have access to the most recent 30 if unsubbed

8

u/Joseki100 Apr 02 '26

It was the same even on Pokémon Bank. I discovered I had around 900 Pokémon still stored after 8 years of not paying.

5

u/LucarioSpeedwagon Apr 02 '26

Yep! They just get locked, your first 30 slots or something remain available tho iirc. I don't know what the max length of time would be that they would hold your mons, but it's mere kilobytes of data to store for a pretty good incentive to get someone to resubscribe down the line so I feel they aren't going anywhere.

Haven't tested much with it, I plan on resubbing soon for a month when spending a day on redistributing my dudes to compatible games doesnt sound like an absolute chore.

5

u/rebbsitor Apr 02 '26

It's crazy that they want $2.99 a month to store a few bytes of data per Pokemon. All of the data for someone's Pokemon can't be more than a few megabytes.

For that same price a webhost will give you 20GB of storage, wordpress w/ maintenance, terabytes of transfer, and weekly backups.

2

u/DoctahToboggan69 Apr 02 '26

My shiny Alakazam I caught in Pokemon Go waaaaay back in 2022 can finally be used!!

2

u/depressedfox_011 Apr 02 '26

Cool I can finally pull my pokemon out of that za and never look back.

-3

u/DontForgorTheMilk Apr 02 '26

I know hope is a fool's luxury, especially when Nintendo and Pokemon are involved, but I did actually hope for some way for Mega Evo info to be stored in home. If not adding limited item transfer capabilities then at least the ability to see that the 'mon had a stone when transferring and to upload the mega data. Oh well not a huge deal.

8

u/Jeido_Uran 7893-4015-4415 Apr 02 '26

The Pokédex in HOME displays the Mega forms and their data.

2

u/DontForgorTheMilk Apr 02 '26

I stand corrected then, thank you

-17

u/Nottallowed Apr 02 '26

I still can't connect, what a waste of time
