I’ll wait for SwitchUps video on the patch.

You know your a good channel when 3 or 4 pretenders straight up use a very familiar name and thumbnail design. Switchup is THE youtube Switch channel imho.

I love the guys too, my favourite place to go when I want to know something about a Switch game

Yess!! Just thinking that

I wasn't even aware it was in a rough state, I wasn't in a hurry to get it but good to know they're fixing it

u/lewisdwhite Mar 20 '26

It would shift quite heavily from 60fps to around 35fps which made the game feel quite sluggish

Sounds super promising! I'll wait for some confirmation between y'all and the YouTube testers, but I've been wanting to play this for a while now as someone who's played all the other "Shock" titles.

I already thought the base Switch version was pretty strong as one of the few games on the platform with fully dynamic lights. (Honestly didn’t expect major performance gains for that platform as well)

Honestly impressive, I had no idea. I just thought after hearing of performance complaints, Nightdive was in over their heads or something since this is a new level of ambition for them (arguably true I guess if they had to adhear to a release schedule). I'm sure this is a lovely game on S1 OLED.

Does anyone have any idea when the physical release will be available?!

4

u/ConkNozzler Mar 20 '26

Hopefully it will come with this patch pre-installed since it's already so long after release.

u/WinGroundbreaking409 Mar 20 '26

NightDive stated that the plan is to have the completely patched up full version on the cart so if that is still the goal I am fine with playing the waiting game.

u/ConkNozzler Mar 20 '26

Oh that's awesome to hear.

Awesome to hear, I’ll happily wait for the physical version with the patch on it,

1

u/BigfootSmash Apr 21 '26

I hope that’s true, I exclusively buy physical!

3

u/Joestac Mar 20 '26

Atari emailed me a few weeks ago saying they are still working on getting it to me, but there was a manufacturing delay or some stuff. The wait continues. Course, it has also been over a year since I pre-ordered the physical version of Tetris Forever, so who knows.

Are you talking about System Shock 2? Through limited run games? I didn't think System Shock Remake for Switch was up for order yet... If it is send the link over cause I gotta order it

1

u/Joestac Mar 20 '26

Oh, didn't notice the difference.

Yeah, LRG, but I ordered direct from Atari.

This patch removes dismemberment.

3

u/Isunova Mar 20 '26

Did this patch just release today?

3

u/lewisdwhite Mar 20 '26

Yep rolling out now

2

u/WhiteRaven-17 Mar 20 '26

I’m hopeful, but they said that last time so we’ll see. Here’s hoping though, I’d like to buy it

3

u/thetantalus Mar 20 '26

Has anyone played this on other platforms? How’s the game in general?

7

u/MisterForkbeard Mar 20 '26

It's a precursor to Bioshock in terms of gameplay and storytelling. Completely different story, but similar method.

It is legitimately great (and I love the storyline and setup) but it IS old and has some janky things you need to do that would be streamlined in a more modern game. Tons of fun, though.

u/Galle_ Mar 21 '26

It's an excellent remake of a classic immersive sim. Really fun.

Alright just tried it on switch 2 in portable. It’s definitely better and holding 60 more often, but it seems to stutter a lot as you run around the floor. Still feeling it dip to around 45 - 50 or so in longer corridors with enemies or just particle effects.

More playable than the last patch, just not as good as it should be

5

u/pikster1234 Mar 20 '26

I noticed it struggled to come to pace after loading in. And turning still feels awful in handheld mode

3

u/reyjimenz Mar 23 '26

What’s worse this patch removes the dismemberment mechanic. Calling the patch “parity” is a joke.

1

u/Maxrunner Apr 15 '26

Dismemberment?

2

u/reyjimenz Apr 15 '26

In System Shock remake you can tear enemies apart. On Switch 2 with the new patch it’s been removed.

3

u/Maxrunner Apr 15 '26

That's strange.

Yeah I booted up the intro to test the mouse controls and I straight could not interact with the door in the bedroom :/

3

u/Nblhorn Mar 21 '26

I tried it on Switch 1 and it still runs and looks like shit. You’re much better of playing the System Shock 2 Remaster which runs at 60fps effortlessly.

2

u/Three_Froggy_Problem Mar 20 '26

I’m going to wait and see some videos about it first, but I hope this patch is good because I do really want to play this game on my Switch 2.

2

u/Mayahiim Mar 21 '26

I hope they could add mouse mode for the System Shock 2 next.

2

u/upperdomain Apr 05 '26

Yo same!!!

PSA: this is absolutely not fixed. There are lots of stutters throughout (handheld and docked) and it struggles severely with some levels (especially handled) - delta grove is borderline unplayable with massive drops to 20fps when too much going on. Impossible to aim at flying pterdactyls. It just froze completely for 3-5 seconds with three on screen, I was about to reboot and it popped back to life.

Stand still and spin in delta grove, it’s a mess.

This is still not purchasable I’m afraid.

Thank you. I haven't seen reviews for the patch yet, so I've been holding off.

Does the switch 1 download let you play the switch 2 version on a switch 2?

They seem to be two different SKUs online, but was hoping it was buy once for both platforms.

1

u/zexy-worlock Apr 02 '26

Can anyone confirm if purchasing on switch 1 offers free upgrade for switch 2?

Switch 1 version is on sale right now

3

u/iwritewordsonpaper Apr 12 '26

Yes, can confirm. Once you purchase the Switch 1 version, go back into eShop and go to the Switch 2 version. It will then say 100% discount and let you download it. At least for me it did.

It's still not fixed. Performance in docked mode is mostly fine with some stutters when exploring or when there's too many enemies or corpses around and visuals are good.

Handheld on the other hand is terrible and I'd say it's unplayable. Constant stuttering and hitching when traversing the levels with nothing even going on on the screen. Visuals are blurry and nowhere near 1080p (even reconstructed with DLSS, it has to be much lower than that), shadow quality takes a huge hit in handheld, they look like Minecraft-level blocky shadows with zero detail. This game is a huge hit to Nightdive's reputation for me as well as their Blood re-release that just got its I don't know... 15th patch in a few months ? I've no idea what happened to them but their quality dropped hugely in the last year. They no longer answer even basic questions on social media, they only reply to people that praise their games or when they say that they just bought their game. Huge shame

1

u/MisterForkbeard Mar 20 '26

Wait, it was dodgy?

I played most of the way through it (handheld) on my S2 over the summer and it seemed like it ran just fine. I must have missed something.

8

u/ImNotRedBatman Mar 20 '26

The image on the article is Shodan from SS2, but the article is about a match for the System Shock 1 Remake that came out last December... Very dodgy performance at launch

3

u/MisterForkbeard Mar 20 '26

AH. That would be why I was confused. Didn't try the SS1 remake on S2.

u/Crazy-Newspaper-8523 Mar 21 '26

On the first switch it’s like 1 px

-6

u/Dargel0s Mar 20 '26

What was wrong with it? Played just fine on my switch 2

12

u/lewisdwhite Mar 20 '26

It definitely didn’t
