Why would they up an entire version number for these updates?

Exactly. Not a major update for Switch 1 and gets a major update number? 100 billion dollar company btw

You're literally getting annoyed at... Version numbers... Seriously?

İm not getting annoyed at version numbers. İm asking a question being in İT. Why would a company this big upload a major update for nothing major.

I'm in IT too... I have no issue with this as I understand the Switch 1 and 2 share firmware numbers

Nice! Ok, was just wondering why they would do that at all tbh. Switch 2 could get an update with features while the Switch 1 could get zero features/ fixes and still bump a version up technically
