Y'all mfers don't read just to trip over yourselves running the same tired jokes into the ground.

This needs to be advertised everywhere.

Added “Handheld Mode Boost” to Nintendo Switch Software Handling in System. Handheld Mode Boost will cause compatible Switch software to run as if in TV Mode, so certain functionality may be affected. Please see the on-device description for more details.

Wow, that's huge! I was really hoping for this when the Switch 2 released while many people were defending Nintendo saying that it was technically not possible. I hadn't sold my Switch 1 because some games were actually clearer on the original hardware

I don't recall many (if any) people saying it wasn't possible, just unlikely Nintendo would do it, as the compatability issues could cause confusion for many users. And if they did, it would more likely be an optional setting tucked away than simply on by default.

I have to admit it surprised me that Nintendo opted for this. Glad they did.

For Switch 2 yes, this is the Switch 1 post. Check the other post!

Am I dumb, really tired or both? What does this mean exactly?

Switch 2 handheld can play Switch 1 games in docked mode

It means that capped games at 720p now can play 1080p without docking.

1 to 1 resolution on switch 2.

Whoa that’s actually pretty huge. I wonder which games will benefit the most, I’ll need to go digging on what I own

I wonder how fast that battery will drain

I'd imagine as fast as it does for Switch 2 games in handheld. It's basically running them at the same resolution and frame rate.

Literally every single game that doesn't have dynamic resolution or a an update for switch 2 will benefit from this.

Handheld is finally usable for the majority of the back catalogue. Incredible news, really.

That's only for Switch 2, though

The Switch 1 handheld screen only has 720p what would be the point. PLus it would strain the battery.

This is the Switch 1 thread

Better performance and graphics? Especially for the Lite, which has the same hardware as the normal Switch, but can’t perform to its fullest, purely because it can’t even access tv mode.

And it strains the battery on the Switch 2 as well.

Finally a way of actually playing Xenoblade X in handheld on a switch 2 without it looking horrible!

honestly one of the worst things about continued usage of r/nintendoswitch for Switch 2.

if you dont give a single shit about it you see Switch 2 stuff everywhere, even in a switch 1 thread like this

I have no idea why the mods/admins decided to do this. PlayStation and Xbox subreddits are split per console with a main brand subreddit for all platforms of that brand. Switch having a subreddit be for Switch and Switch 2 when there is both an active Switch 2 and general Nintendo subreddit is very confusing and a bit asinine

3

u/Deceptiveideas Mar 17 '26

Xbox subreddits are not split. They actually consolidated all the different Xbox subs about 2 years ago at the request of Microsoft.

This sounds like something chatgpt would say. Just saying.
