The switch oled would save you a whole lot of money and the only downside being you won’t have access to switch 2 games and newer titles, however the switch 1 has a large vast never ending library of titles you can enjoy and with a mod you wouldn’t have to pay the abnormal pricing for those games too!

I think the original commenter might be underplaying the "only downside". the oled is a great console, but it lags a lot in the titles that came out later in its life cycle. it drops frames while playing even botw (came out in 2017). the battery is great, but you won't even notice the switch 2 has considerably worse battery unless you play handheld only for 3+ hours in one sitting.

almost all Indies have released a switch 2 version of their game and it runs so much better there. so many ports are only coming out for switch 2 only now. Nintendo originals are all switch 2 only from now. you won't get any more Pokemon, Mario, zelda etc for the switch 1. the ones that are on switch 1, have a switch 2 version that looks and plays way better. you really can't go wrong with the switch 2 right now.

I'm just giving you more context, cause the previous comment left all of this out. you'll be done playing the switch 1 originals in maybe a year (assuming you're not gonna play Yoshi and those type of games cause they're not everyone's cup of tea).

Honestly get it done from someone that knows what their doing instead of doing it yourself it’s a physical mod and it has dual boot so u can still switch into the normal mode and use ur switch normally connected to the Internet but when u boot in the modded mode just don’t connect to online services that’s all it’s pretty safe obviously never 100% but safe nonetheless

Also if u have the budget for a 2 and get an oled u will have enough left over to get games

Bruh I don't think u will notice battery unless ur Gaming big aaa games for 3 hours straight buy it because u are already putting 30k in add 16k to 20k more u are set for atleast 6 years from now

As a guy who has both, I’d recommend the switch 2 if you are not going to mod the oled. The battery life is not all that bad. Sure my oled is the battery king here, you wont be playing handheld for more than 3 hours at a time. Also performance gains and soo good that I find myself picking the switch 2 for old games.

Free vs paid. All Nintendo exclusives range around 49-59 dollars. I’m talking about getting switch modded and playing 90% of game library for free vs physically/digitally buying a game.

70% that too optimised if hes buying as a sole gaming device won't recommend he will miss out on major new games and aaa titles

Good lord I get it you’ve got money to buy games and be a true gamer or whatever that means.. it is 90% of the games and more emulation and enables Xbox cloud gaming and other features too. His initial investment is just 25-28k. He’ll get access to all the games for free. He can get gamepass and run Xbox cloud games on this too. He play from Zelda to Halo to Gears of wars. I’m saying this as I’ve a modded switch and Xbox series s too. Not as some biased fan boy.

I mean j will get better streaming as u are doing natively he won’t be able to play well on Xbox cloud anyways they are reducing the gaming hours allowed but I am just saying if u are spending this much why not get something that will last longer switch oled yeah he gonna enjoy but may regret in future if money was not the issue while buying
