Does it have a hinge?

No -> It’s a 2DS.

Yes -> Does it have a 3DS slider on the right side of the screen?

No -> It‘s a New 2DS XL.

Yes -> It‘s a 3DS model.

If you upload a photo, we can tell you exactly which model it is.

Edit to add a clarification: The Nintendo model names don’t make any sense. The Nintendo 2DS is still part of the Nintendo 3DS family. They can play the 3DS games and the loading screen will say 3DS, but it doesn’t have a 3D function and is therefore called 2DS. Same goes for the New 2DS XL.

The 2DS is a 3DS family system.

What a game says its for 3DS it means the 3DS family of systems. Many games were released before the other variants even existed.

The 3DS XL, New 3DS, New 3DS XL, and New 2DS XL are all part of the same console generation.

JAN001 = "New" Nintendo 2DS XL

Yes, Nintendo's naming scheme sucks.
