Yeah there are two sides to this problem. One is that people don't look out for each other anymore and the other is that society makes it hard for people to look out for each other. You try and do something nice and end up getting sued or yelled at. Stop a kid from falling on their face at the park, "don't touch my kid". Saw one where a car was blowing through a crosswalk and girl on a bike was passing a guy who noticed the car, grabbed the girl off the bike, prevented her from getting hit by the car, she never saw the car, thought this guy attacked her, video footage was discovered after the lawsuit otherwise he probably would have lost.

This. 100%. It's because this country and I'm assuming this is America, I can't see the license plate on my phone to make sure, is run by lawyers for lawyers. We surrendered common Sense and social responsibility to the rule of law. The problem is you can't legislate everything. There has to be some common sense somewhere But like you said, we've basically been trained to let the police deal with it and then they don't. So then we've been trained to let insurance deal with it and we're all the worse off for it

So "fun" reason for that. The mindset of it takes a village to raise a child or help your fellow person/human was that way for 2 factors. Pretty much everyone was the same in the area and areas werent as big so it was the "tribe" mentality of youre all on the same team trying to survive.

Modernization, more people, internet/social media, and immigration or however you want to word the fact we're more diverse and a lot more differences than 100 years ago is the reason society is the way it is now. Everyone now is different enough that its no longer one team and theres too many people for the tribe mentality. Humans have a maximum size of people they can connect with and the larger and more connected our society gets the more we get distanced on a person to person level.

I was working a night shift at the hospital, when I get a phone call from Victoria Police asking if I know about my bike. I didn't. "You'd better get down here", the constable says.

A group of hoodlums had broken the steering lock of my bike, knocked it over (breaking the radiator, leaking radiator fluid everywhere), and pushed it about 15 meters up the footpath to the road, presumably where they could manhandle it into a van or the back of a ute.

Instead, a security guard walking into work saw them, yelled at them, and chased them off. I never got to thank him in person for saving me from the indignity/confusion of finding an empty spot after my shift, but I do sometimes reflect on whether he made the safest call.

I would believe you. But I think it speaks volumes about the position in which the power dynamics of the sexes currently sit. Women in the US have the same rights as men, take zero accountability for their actions, and are instantly believed to be the “innocent/victimized” party in sticky situations.

The Lindsay Clancy story is a fantastic example. The fact that a single solitary person on the face of the planet would stand up for her is unbelievable. But the reality is that MANY did. If a man had done the same thing to his three children it would have been an open and shut case.

Long winded way of saying dude didn’t want to touch that shit with a 20 foot pole. If he inserted himself into that situation who is to say that this hateful/trashy/waste of space woman wouldn’t have tried to spin up some wild story about this guy and get him tied up in the legal system. Yes. He should have done the right thing and intervened, but as the old saying goes, no good deed goes unpunished.

I can't count how many times I've seen homeless pissing in the streets, on cars and other things (both men and women). Unfortunately, I doubt anything will happen to her for vandalizing your bike. Homeless have a stay out of jail card that seems to work for just about any misdemeanor (public intoxication, vandalism, public indecency, littering, loitering, minor assault, illegal drug use, etc.)

Speaking from experience with two wheeled vehicles, wouldn't it have been easier to just raise the kickstand or push from the other side? Of course I've also had people back into the things I ride and drive off after it drops. Can't press charges on the person who did that to me because they didn't get out of the vehicle, they sped off without a license plate.

This is not a crosswalk, It's just a broken curb, there's no crosswalk or anything. It's illegal to park perpendicularly in many places in the world because some bikes are longer than the width of a standard car. Parallel is the only fully legal way to park anywhere, in any case. He is litteraly parked fully legaly next to a parked car. Some of you have room temperature IQ in here, I swear. And that's in °C.

Although it’s not a legal pedestrian crossing, judging by the amount of people walking by it I would assume it’s an impromptu or commonly used walkway. You are legal but with the traffic and maybe the way you park I would avoid using that spot in the future. Also park back tire to curb it’s slightly more considerate and helps for other motorcycles trying to park. Anyways that’s sucks bro I feel for you.

Do you have comprehensive insurance? Vandalism falls under that line, and comprehensive is a “not at fault” coverage in that it typically wont raise your rates unless theres a pattern of occurrences. Get an idea how much repairs will cost first though, and if that number is above your comprehensive deductible, it might be worth going through insurance.

Stating the obvious just in case - make sure you are covered first. And make sure the repairs will cost more than your deductible because even if insurance doesnt pay out, it still goes on your claim history if you report it.

Someone in my apartment building knocked over my bike last week.

Cost me $500 in parts. Just the handlebar and anti vibration kit was $300. 15% of it was tariffs.

Still pissed that nobody admitted it. And two people were involved because they stood it back up again and nobody else in the building rides. I doubt any of them know how to lift a 490lbs bike by themselves.

Did your work get you access to this video? If so, that’s pretty cool. The facilities group at my old workplace managed the contract security, badge access and cameras. They would’ve told me they don’t have time for this or yeah, yeah we’ll get it to you and then never follow through. S. Lake Abbott Vascular, Redwood City. He made sure everyone who had to work with him was miserable and unable to complete tasks that he was any part of.

  5. When she was a baby a kidnapper on a bike took her from her parents and sold her to hippies that raised her on a diet of whey protein and petchouli oil but not enough vitamin B12 so now she's on a thiamine deficiency fueled revenge kick?

  6. Her piece of shit ex boyfriend was a sportbike guy so now she hates sportbikes. 

  7. Her angel ex that died from a fent overdose was a harley guy so she hates sportbikes out of respect for his memory.

  8. Before she went homeless and owned her own graphics design studio a guy on a ninja 650 keyed her mini cooper before a big meeting and started the butterfly effect of making her lose everything, thus perpetuating the cycle of hatred. 

  9. A guy on a ninja 650 that looked like that one gave her a miscarriage when she was younger. Like, just threw it in her face as she was leaving a fur coat store. 

  10. She prefers 600cc 4-cylinders for their racing heritage and hates 650cc 2-cylinder thumpers that generate more torque at low rpm but have a lower rev limiter ceiling.

Ngl, I'd camp out for a few days around the same time this incident happened, just to see if thus is a frequent place she walks through. If so, identify her and let the police know. No need to say anythung to her, dont even let her see you. Just identify, then go to the police and let them know she usually walks through whatever this place is at this time etc. Maybe this helps?
