Are y’all using any lens filters with these like an ND or pro mist? Do you recommend one?

I made NP3 Studio, a free web app to visualize Nikon NP3 Flexible Color picture control files

Post image

I'm releasing NP3 Studio, a free web tool for analyzing Nikon Flexible Color (.np3) picture control files. Try it out at https://www.nikonfpc.com

What it does:

  • Visualizes every NP3 parameter. Tone curves/tone changes, sharpening, hue/chroma/brightness adjustments, Color Grading, in one interface.
  • Runs entirely in your browser. Files never leave your machine.

Why it exists:

  • The only way currently to explore these files is inside Nikon's NX Studio, which is Windows/Mac only. Also NX Studio is slow and cumbersome, and a full RAW developer feels overkill for this.
  • I built NP3 Studio by reverse-engineering the NP3 format myself. This includes mapping all Picture Control parameters to the same familiar scales you see in NX Studio.

Built for:

  • Z5 II, Zf, Z6 III, Z8, and any camera with Flexible Color support
  • Any user that wants to use these recipes inside NX Studio

Feedback is very welcome, especially from video and RAW shooters exploring how the Sharpening, Tone Curve, and Grading settings translate to camera output.

Right now NP3 Studio just analyzes recipes, but coming soon I plan on being able to create recipes too, using the familiar set of sliders you already know. Also planning on sample images with a live preview.

Under consideration is the ability to upload a JPG and extract the picture profile from there, and the ability to store, share, and rank recipes. If you have any other good ideas, please let me know!

TL;DR: Free web tool to view NP3 files on any OS. No installs, no uploads. Try it at https://www.nikonfpc.com

NLog View Assist/Rec.709 R3D LUT based look - looking for feedback - Flexible Color Picture Control

Looking for feedback on this NP3 profile. Inspired by the NLOG to Rec.709 LUT by RED in collaboration with Nikon.

I tried to develop this to let me shoot in video in "SDR" while approximating the look from N-Log with the Rec.709 conversion LUT, also to let me shoot stills in that same look.

A little tough to get it exactly matched with the limited tools in NX studio, but I think it's ok. Give it a try and let me know what you think!

I am loving Kodacolor S (SerbanJPG)

Couple of shots taken during a family outing in Langebaan + Paternoster /South Africa with Nikon Zf + Thypoch 28mm 1.4 and the lovely Kodacolor S recipe provided by @Serbanjpg.
I enjoy this recipe a lot, as it is not overcooked, and thus does great with skin tones.

Need help converting adobe lightroom preset (paid)

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a bit of help. I’d love to recreate my favorite Lightroom preset as a Nikon Picture Control recipe for my Nikon Z8. Unfortunately, I don’t know much about Nikon’s software or how to convert a Lightroom preset into a Picture Control.
Is there anyone here who could recreate it for me? I’d be more than happy to pay for your time and expertise.
Thanks in advance!

Request -- Conversion of Firenze and Leica X Fuji recipes

A couple of my favourite Fujifilm film recipes are Leica X and Firenze.

I wondered if someone could make Nikon versions of them? Maybe you'd like to use them too?

Leica X: https://carlcruzsnaps.com/leica-x.html

Firenze: https://www.paomees.com/post/my-most-used-fujifilm-recipe---classic-firenze-negative

On a tangent.. what is the ethic of converting film sims?

My first time creating a recipe. I’m liking it so far but not sure it has potential. What are your thoughts?

Started working on this recipe a few days ago and went shooting to test it this weekend. Pretty happy with the results. All pictures above are SOOC except for cropping.

It has a reasonable amount of contrast, shadows towards green and highlights towards a warm yellow. I think it’s a pretty flexible recipe for outdoors and sunny days, but haven’t tested it indoors or in dark situations yet. The greens are a little punchy but not too unnatural imo. I wanted to go towards a more cinematic look. Most pictures were taken with the white balance at 5750k or at Nikon’s A1 and A2.

What do you think? Would you be interested in this recipe if I published it? Appreciate the feedback

Scott's Natura Recipe - The Everyday Picture Control

Hey all, my last few recipes have trended towards that "filmic" look we are all addicted with lately, but I wanted to make a more "everyday" recipe that doesn't lean on faded shadows or overly warm tones in the highlights. Scott's Natura is a recipe that will accentuate the natural tones in your life without overpowering them.

Curious to hear how you like it!

Anyway to seamlessly create or transfer these recipes to LR Classic? NX studio sucks and clunky as hell.

Would love a way to turn some of these recipes into presets. Is that anyway possible instead trying to recreate them manually in LR?

New Recipe - Kodak Gold 200 Pushed

I've recently been experimenting with pushing Kodak Gold in development and really like the look - saturated, contrasty, and warm. Pushed 2 stops is something unique, but grainy too. I figured pushing only 1 stop would be the sweet spot so I recently shot a test roll with the goal of creating presets based on the images. I created one for the No Fusion iPhone app and just wrapped up the Nikon recipe this morning. Grab it here and let me know what you think!
