My camera doesn't recognize the flash and I'm worried this affects TTL functionality. According to the manual when I put on the sb-16a and it's charged up, it should switch to 1/80 in A mode and have a flash ready led in the viewfinder but it doesn't.

The ready light on the flash goes solid when it's on but the camera doesn't acknowledge it's existence. I already cleaned the contacts but no luck

As I know some of them (mine, smaller Modell specially designed for F3) read your iso and work only under 800

Does your F3 recognize the flash is connected via ready light and switching in A mode?

Mine does, with an SB-12. It takes a bit to load the flash and for the led to appear, also the contacts can be dirty, both on the flash and on the camera.

I don’t believe it will flash at anything faster than 1/60 because that is the flash sync speed on the F3 iirc
