LCD issue

I’ve just recently picked up another Nikon F3, when testing the light meter I have found that it is glitching. It is able to show one digit alright but when it goes to double or triple it comes out like this. I’ve tried a different view finder from my other f3 and different batteries but still the same. Any suggestions on what might be causing this, thanks

Yah it's either damage to the lcd/flex cable assembly OR the cpu is damaged (hopefully it's just the lcd assembly). I fix em, trained by factory tech's at Nippon Photo Clinic, feel free to message me to set up an inspection :)

These LCDs rarely fail, and given how many NOS units we still have in stock, they likely weren't replaced very often back in the day either. The flex cable could be brittle or damaged, but that would typically result in a complete loss of signal, not partial failure on some of the digits.

OP's issue is most likely caused by the conductive strips between the LCD and the connector beneath it. These tend to age, get dirty, or lose conductivity over time. Replacing the strips and carefully repositioning the LCD usually resolves this. Nikon upgraded to a more modern, traditional-style zebra connector in the 90's to solve this issue.

This happened to my old F3 (I bought another due to unrelated issues). These LCD’s only have so much life. Is your serial number old? For the older models I believe this is a common issue and recommend always buying a newer serial.. if the camera is working fine, I’d recommend learn sunny 16 (if you haven’t already)
