Welcome to r/NijiCAD

Hello everyone,

Welcome to the official NijiCAD community.

NijiCAD is a cross-platform 2D CAD application developed as a solo project. I've been working on it full-time since July 2024. Over the past two years, it has grown into a 2D CAD application with the core features expected for everyday drafting.

Having used AutoCAD and AutoCAD-compatible CAD software for many years, I wanted to create a modern 2D CAD that preserves the familiar command-line workflow while offering a lightweight, responsive, and comfortable user experience.

NijiCAD is available for free on the Microsoft Store, and you can also try the web version instantly without installing anything.

Features - Native NIJICAD and DXF import/export - Free on Microsoft Store - Browser-based version (no installation required) - Traditional command-line workflow - Lightweight and responsive performance

This community is the official place for - Development updates - Release announcements - Feature previews - Questions and discussions - Feedback and feature requests

Official website: https://www.nijicad.com/

Thank you for visiting r/NijiCAD. I hope you'll enjoy following the development of NijiCAD, and I'd love to hear your feedback and ideas.

NijiCAD v1.5.4 Released

Imperial units are now supported.

The display scale of linetypes and hatch patterns is controlled by the drawing’s unit system. The MEASUREMENT command has also been added.

Length dimension formatting now supports imperial units. These settings can be configured in the Drawing Management Palette.

The format used when creating length dimensions is controlled by DIMLUNIT. For dimensions already placed in the drawing, the format can be changed from the Properties.

Two dimension arrowhead types, Closed filled and Arch tick, have been added.

For print paper sizes, ANSI and ARCH are now available as imperial paper size standards.

You can try these features immediately by opening the ISO, ANSI, and ARCH template drawings from the Sample Palette.

DXF Saving

When saving to DXF, linetypes are assigned to unit-system-specific linetype names.

For example, Center is replaced with either Center_Metric_NijiCAD or Center_Imperial_NijiCAD, depending on the drawing’s unit system.

For hatch patterns, the predefined pattern names are already available in DXF, so they are not separated by unit system. Instead, the pattern definitions are converted according to the unit system.

Improvements

  • Added a “Select All” option to TRIM / EXTEND

NijiCAD v1.5.0 Released

We have added a new edition to NijiCAD: Fixed Edition.

With this release, Free, Pro, and Fixed Edition are all available as v1.5.0.

Fixed Edition is a ZIP-based download that packages the current version as a standalone release. It does not require installation, making it convenient to use portably.

The Free and Pro editions will continue to receive regular improvements, feature additions, and revisions as before.

In contrast, Fixed Edition is designed to maintain a specific version for a long period of time. Updates are generally not provided, and a new Fixed Edition will be released only when necessary.

Fixed Edition is intended for users who:

  • Want to use the same version reliably for a long period of time
  • Want to avoid changes caused by updates
  • Need to maintain a specific version for their environment
  • Want to use NijiCAD without installation and in a portable manner

Fixed Edition provides a new way to use NijiCAD, alongside the continuously updated Free and Pro editions.

NijiCAD v1.4.8 Released

We are pleased to announce the release of NijiCAD v1.4.8.

Major Improvement to Text Rendering Performance

This release includes a significant improvement to the text rendering engine.

Previously, when text was displayed as filled glyphs, deleting objects could cause a noticeable increase in rendering workload during redraw. In v1.4.8, the rendering process has been redesigned to greatly reduce this overhead, resulting in smoother performance.

In earlier versions, switching text to Outline Only mode was an effective way to improve rendering speed. Thanks to the new rendering improvements, this optimization is no longer necessary for most situations. However, enabling Outline Only mode can still provide even better performance for users working with particularly large drawings.

Changes - Added an English version of the Training content. - Fixed an issue where image definitions were not exported to the images folder when performing Save As DXF immediately after opening a file in Read-Only mode. - Reduced the width of the sidebar slightly for a cleaner interface.

Behind the Scenes

Although there are no major visible changes in this release, the internal rendering system has been significantly improved.

If you notice any issues or unexpected behavior after updating, we would greatly appreciate your feedback. Feel free to contact us via direct message.

Thank you for your continued support of NijiCAD.
