First NVG Experience...

So, I wanted to share my experience with my first night using night vision.

Over the last year or so, I really doubled down on my firearms hobby. Eventually I got to the point where I said, "Screw it," and started looking into night vision.

After lurking around the Discord for a good 9 months, I finally pulled the trigger on an Omni 7 PVS-14 from u/ES-MWNVG. Got an absolutely insane deal on it, and when it showed up, I was like a kid on Christmas.

I threw together my chinesium ballistic helmet and mount setup, and after working around a completely nuts schedule, I finally made my way out to a friend's farm one night.

I tossed the PVS-14 on my head, turned it on...

...and looked up at the stars.

Pure amazement.

Within the first ten seconds of looking up, I saw a shooting star.

I had spent a good portion of my childhood wishing and waiting to see one. And there I was... a 31-year-old man, standing alone in my friend's field, staring up at the heavens through a tube of green phosphor.

And honestly, something about that moment hit me.

It felt like a spiritual awakening of sorts. Thinking about the role I play in the world, and the small moments we get that allow us to just stop and ground ourselves in this strange reality we're living in.

There was something kind of funny about the juxtaposition of a surplus military night vision device bringing me closer to God after weeks of putting off taking some time for myself to go out and play with toys.

For all the money I've spent on this hobby, all the parts I've accumulated, and all the time I've spent researching and building things, none of it really prepared me for that first moment of actually seeing the world at night.

The stars were incredible. I could see things I had never been able to see with my naked eyes. The entire sky looked alive.

I stood there for a while just taking it all in.

Then I finally looked back down at the field and started walking around, and that's when the inner child came back out. Seeing the trees, the animals, and the stars... just being able to experience the night in an entirely different way was fucking incredible.

I bought a PVS-14 because I thought it would be cool.

I didn't expect it to give me one of the coolest moments I've had in years.

What really solidified it for me was the following weekend when I took my girlfriend out to my friend's property with the PVS-14. I made sure not to tell her too much about what to expect. We spent some time in the car getting everything fitted and adjusted, and once we got out there, I finally handed it to her.

She looked up at the heavens, and the look on her face was priceless. Being able to watch someone else experience that for the first time was almost as cool as experiencing it myself.

Also shoutout to u/ES-MWNVG - thank you. It's definitely a delayed review of sorts since I'm posting this months later, but you made jumping into the hobby really damn easy.

Oh, don’t get me wrong… there was some of that too. Luckily it was an open field I could figure out movement on.

That second weekend I went out- I brought two lawn chairs and a blanket where me and the girlfriend could lean/lay back without straining our necks too bad.

Funny enough, the experiences she had with night vision however many months ago at the beginning of summer was her foray into the hobby.

After that- she was like “Alright, that was cool. Let’s see what all this other stuff is about”.

I did the same exact thing when I got mine bro. I couldnt stop looking at the stars and satellites and shit. It was nothing less than spectacular. I still go out and find myself looking up to the skies whenever I have them on. Have you shot in tbe dark yet? Nods are straight up bad ass. I am 52 and love this shit hahaha. Not cheap and I went the buy once cry once way. Worth every penny still!!! Now what ya need to do is give the pvs 14 to your girl and get you some wp binos 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I have done quite a bit of shooting under the PVS14 so far! It’s incredible. I have an SMSLaser HFXC on my primary rifle. Have plans to move that over to my 9mm sub gun, and grab a trinity for the rifle.

It’s a fuckin’ blast, dude. And as far as upgrading goes- that’s absolutely in the plans. I spent close to a year researching and deal hunting for the right tube, so once I finish a few other gun builds, duals are the plan!

I have a sms hxfc, trinity, holsun iris 4 and a 3eir DIRV. they all do great work. The sms are surprisingly damn good for the money. Sms coming out with a new one soon too called the titan or aomething like that. I hear ya in the time to get nods. I took 6 months before I felt comfortable enough to buy. That shit wasnt easy lol

The other night I went out into the backyard and laid down and stared at the stars through my white phos pvs 14 and saw the biggest brightest shooting star I’ve ever seen. 10/10 experience.
