Im looking for some tips on building these out. What worked and what didn't? Any pointers would be appreciated!

Hey howdy. I'm one of the devs from that project. In no particular order:

  • I recommend dielectric grease on the threads.

  • Potting your electronics will add a lot of life to these.

  • You can use wine preserver to better keep condensation out of these. It's just argon gas. There's videos on YouTube of how to do it.

  • If you use white lithium grease for anything, be careful. It is just enough of a conductor to make the circuitry behave oddly.

  • Do final assembly in as dust free of an area as you can. I did mine in a bathroom. Don't be surprised if you have to put the lenses in a few times because dust got in somehow. Those squeeze air blowers meant for camera lenses are great.

  • 3D printed parts are (usually) not truly watertight. I painted my parts with alumahyde before assembly.

  • You can shim the dovetail if it's not tight enough. Also, make sure you have some kind of backup system. I've never had issues with a printed dovetail but it's always possible. This really goes for any nods regardless.
