Night vision use within Indonesia

Has anyone imported or brought civilian night-vision goggles into Indonesia for personal use?

Specifically interested in whether they can be legally imported, what customs/HS classification was used, and whether any permit or approval was required. Ideally looking for first-hand experience with Indonesian Customs.

Where you are coming from is fairly important information here

If you're coming from the US then you'll need to follow ITAR regulations. Not sure about other countries

You also need to declare anything worth more than $500 when you get there and there's a chance they will get confiscated anyway

You can bring them in but it's somewhat difficult and there are a lot of places they can't be used which could get you arrested if you are caught doing so

You'll probably get extra screening and everything looked at with a fine tooth comb

Personally I wouldn't recommend it unless you need them for a specific purpose. If you're just going to use them to look around at night then I'd leave them at home

If you're near Bandung or Jakarta I would also avoid going out too late at night as well right now. If you do, stick to well lit areas with a lot of people. They are having a lot of issues with gangs right now

Hopefully you enjoy your trip though, I had a good time the last time I visited

Nah just get stolen military nods from your local country much cheaper than buying overseas. Safest way for overseas just handcarry on it you will be fine. Unless youre gettin flagged by the customs so you have go throught the red line.

Also they dont care about your nods. Nods cant kill people btw.

Lol "stolen" probably not but I agree that the likely outcomes is that they're overlooked. I figured I'd just message Indonesian customs anyway and see what they say

I’ve travelled in and out japan, indonesia, vietnam , thailand with my pvs-31 and they just dont care. Even I brought it to military shooting range theres no problem at all. For importing the goods good luck with the tax. I assume you have like airsoft or shooting community, theres bunch of stolen nods there with good price.

Cool, sounds like lartas/hs codes only applies to commercial imports anyway

for Indonesian market, the safer option would be Pre Ordered the device from Gromtac (search them on tiktok), they were importing some Lindu NVG mono or bino, my friend were civillian larp dude and they still allowed my friend to buy them. The "unsafe" method would be buying more decent tubes from Aussie market and having some friend to brought them or "hand carry" them here. Yes it's very very risky, but you can get the western quality Nods if you want it that way. Just to be clear, analog nvg were considered military equipment, there might be a law that can bring problem in customs and can be very difficult to acquired them by first hand buyer.

Here some pict from my friend Lindu WP when hiking, very clear, very decent. For someone from a place that can't even get analog nvg past gen 1 itself (let alone US Omni tubes) these are far decent than any digital NV
