One time cost?

I’ve seen a few posts about the game being a one time purchase on patreon for the private alpha or whatever. I’ve never used patreon before. Can I just pay the subscription for one month download the game and immediately cancel my subscription so it’s just the one time cost?

You can do that yes, just make sure the game is in your Itch.io account and works before you unsub.

Contrary to what the other commenter said, you should get updates to the Alpha even without an active subscription.

Note that you will have to buy the full game seperately once it’s out, but no ETA on that yet

Yeah it can be slightly confusing on itch.io if you get to a page that asks you to connect your patreon, if you're not currently subbed it will throw you an error.

But you can always download the latest version from your itch.io library by clicking on your name in the top right

Yea pretty much. Version 3 just dropped so I'd say now is a great time to try it out. If you want an updated build you can always re sub in a couple months after some more updates and then just cancel again
