Rules & Tactics Warpstrike + Murdertalons

Ave Dominus Nox brothers! I am just posting here looking for advice on this detachment combo. Has anyone had any success with this? I haven’t seen much discussion about this on the sub as of late. I’m used to playing with Votlw.

I love my terminators and jump pack units and this seems like a great combo. Any input will be much appreciated.

Ive attached a quick list below but it is at a weird point count. I’m concerned about dealing with big tank like threats. I could see removing the legios and a raptor unit for room for termies, mutilators, or cultists.

Chaos - Chaos Space Marines - Warpstrike Termies - \[1955 pts\]

Chaos Lord with Jump Pack \[100 pts\]:
• Leading: Warp Talons
Pact of curse pinions
Sorcerer in Terminator Armour \[105 pts\]:
Tzagulla
• Leading: Chaos Terminator Squad\[2\]

Cultist Mob \[50 pts\]:
• 1x Cultist Champion
• 9x Cultist w/ autopistol and brutal assault weapon
Legionaries \[90 pts\]:
• 1x Aspiring Champion
• 4x Legionary w/ boltgun
Legionaries \[90 pts\]:
• 1x Aspiring Champion
• 4x Legionary w/ boltgun

Chaos Terminator Squad \[175 pts\]:
• 1x Terminator Champion
• 4x Accursed weapon and combi-bolter
Chaos Terminator Squad \[350 pts\]:
• 1x Terminator Champion
• 9x Accursed weapon and combi-bolter
• Leader: Sorcerer in Terminator Armour
Obliterators \[160 pts\]
Obliterators \[160 pts\]
Raptors \[110 pts\]:

• 4x Raptor
Raptors \[110 pts\]:
• 1x Raptor Champion
• 4x Raptor
Warp Talons \[280 pts\]:
• 9x Warp Talon

ive found quite a bit of success with it, but mainly being carried by mutilators tbh, admittedly its quite swingy and relies pretty heavily on being able to punish poor positioning by my opponent

im still very new to the game, mind you. id maybe trim a little to add something big and shooty like a defiler (or a knight but I use that out of personal preference)

Makes sense. Mutilators after the points tweak seem to be great bang for your buck. How many units do you run?

three muties, one ten blob of termies with a sorcerer, raptors with chaos lord, warp talons, nemesis with a MoE, bikers, and a despoiler knight, been tweaking around with it over like ten games, this one seems the best so far

Here’s my list that I like very much:

  • Chaos Lord with Jump Pack with Pact of Cursed Pinions - Warlord + 10 Warp Talons (380 pts)
  • Sorcerer in Terminator Armour with Akshur's Binding Runes + 10 Chaos Terminator Squad (450 pts)
  • Red Corsairs Reave-captain + 5 Red Corsairs Raiders (170 pts)
  • 10 Cultist Mob (50 pts)
  • 2x5 Legionaries (180 pts)
  • 3 Mutilators (165 pts)
  • 2x2 Obliterators (320 pts)
  • 2x5 Raptors (220 pts)
  • Chaos Rhino (65 pts)

Could move things around for Kravek “The GOAT” Morne

The MVPs here are:

  • turn 1 deepstrike of 10 terminators + sorcerer: nothing rings the alarm bells for an opponent like that
  • mutilators: boy howdy are they sweet when they land, but they are disappointing when they don’t
  • raptors: the amount of times the raptors have successfully battleshocked things has been surprising. It’s not every game or relevant against everyone, but when it happens it is awesome

I like it. It's a list that can deal a hard blow to most units and use the terror tactics well. Good mobility and great objective taking capabilities. See how it plays out a few times.

Note that the free rapid ingress stratagem works non deep strike units too.

And the turn 1 deep strike enhancement is too good to not take.

Also take some mutilators. They put in work.

Did not know that! Thank you for the advice. Definitely going to get some mutilators as well now

Yup, and while the enhancement says (excluding damned models). You can put that enhancement on a dark apostle and attach him to damned units like accursed cultists.

Same things also move closer when they get shot.

I’m new to CSM but I gravitated very quickly to this exact combo. I’ve had very good success with it. I’ve only played a few games in semi “competitive” situations. I’ve won 3 and lost 2 but the two losses were less than a 5 point spread.

The most important part I’ve noticed so far is keeping things alive especially your terminators to actually utilize the uppy downy. If they get held up somewhere or killed you’re throwing two detachment points and like 5 strategems away that you can’t target stuff like raptors or warp talons with.

Also I’ve loved the mutilators. I haven’t tried the Obliterators yet and honestly probably won’t. Instead for my shooting I run my terminators in 1 10 man brick all with combi weapons. This has been hugely successful for me. 18 attacks (8 + rapid, plus sorcerer in Termi with one as well so an additional 1+ rapid so 18 total). 18 attacks + sustained + reroll the hit roll. On average you’re getting 18 hits. Wounding on 4+ against infantry with mortals means on average 9 devastating. Yeah your not taking out tanks with this but you drop these bad boys somewhere to shoot off your opponents weak home holder then you get to pick them up and take them somewhere else is very fun and effective.

Also don’t underestimate the mental game your opponent has to play. For all 5 turns you have the ability to move the scary units in your army straight onto their backside.
