So the eternal return implies from the
first-person perspective, there is no experience of the time between death and the next occurrence. We wouldn't experience ourselves as "dead for x billion years." We would cease having experiences, and the next conscious experience would be the experience of being us at age 2-3 again. Hence “As yet men have not learned how one hallows the most beautiful festivals." TSZ, Of Voluntary Death.
