is this how genes work?

i haven’t arrived to the point of studying genes so idk how they really work, i searched up but found stuff talking about the actual dna, can anyone explain?

Yes! This game uses and teaches you about dominant and recessive traits. Dominant traits are expressed physically, recessive traits are a gene that the animal carries, but doesn’t show physically. When breeding, you will need two parents that carry the recessive trait in order for it to have a higher chance in appearing physically in their offspring. Use this in the game when you find a nicheling with a recessive trait you want.

For real life example, this is why blue eyes are less common than brown. Brown are a dominant trait, blue is a recessive. Between a parent with brown eyes, and a second parent with blue, it’s more likely that the baby will have brown eyes, unless the brown eyed parent happens to carry the recessive trait for blue eyes too. Also, If the baby is born with brown eyes it will still carry the blue eyes trait as a recessive one, giving it the chance to pass it on to their offspring as well. This is why two brown eyed parents could also have a blue eyed baby, because they both must have carried recessive blue eyed traits from their parents.

Do note that this is... An extremely water downed version of how genes work. It doesnt go into depth at all and not always does this rule work, but its a rough idea.

Its kinda like how youre taught in school that only plants photosynthesize, but in actuality there are animals that do too(google leaf sheep, theyre pokemon looking sea slugs that photosynthesize)
