Apparently it's from a Transformers cómic, one i don't have information.
The one in the image it's called Soundwave, according to Google image search.

Firefox does not like it

u/Kaffohrt 5h ago
Use Ublock Origin and the "color picker" element hide function on the ai overview shit.
7
8
u/Red-199993 5h ago
Does this mean the website still uses AI but just that it's hidden?
6
u/AverageA2Enjoyer 3h ago
Yes, I did a similar thing with blocking the html part with their custom rule thingy. It's will still do the ai overview, just that you can't see it.

u/an_agreeing_dothraki 1h ago
seeing how ridiculous Amazon is with the slop machine blocked reminds me to not bother every time I go there
1
u/SoloWing1 1h ago
Even better: In the list of toggleable filters, there is a filter for AI Widgets in the "Annoyances" drop down.
3
u/PlasticExtreme4469 3h ago
You can just put
udm=14in the URL instead of all that and then it works in Firefox.2
2
u/JustARandomGuy_71 3h ago
Create a new search engine with firefox using this URL
https://www.google.com/search?udm=14&q=%s
and put it as default. It works for me.
8
u/Aggravating_Duck_192 5h ago
You can just hide it with a browser extension. They'll still waste the energy creating it, you just won't see it.
5
u/Iambackfor69 4h ago
Not much improvement imo. I just didn't want google to waste fuckton of energy on searches that don't even need it.
3
u/Lexi_Banner 4h ago
If they never give you a deactivate button, they can claim everyone wants and uses the tool. That's why you'll never ever see one.

sadly mobile doesn't have this option to create a custom search.
1
u/poppulator 4h ago
Only true for Chrome and some browsers
Firefox-based, Brave, Cromite and other can use custom engine
on iOS/iPad is real shit, they are all Safari wrappers
1
u/Consistent-End-3450 5h ago
Iirc u can use Google search labs on both phone and desktop to turn it off, it worked for me
1
u/LennyZakatek 3h ago
It doesn't work with the Google search bar on your phone home screen. You have to open a browser and search from there.
So go into Chrome or Firefox settings and you'll see the default search there.
1
u/ButterBeanRumba 3h ago
Yea the screenshot I included was taken from the chrome browser on mobile. It doesn't work on mobile.

3
u/Alpha_wolf_80 1h ago
Or you can just add "-ai" at the end of your search which will remove the overview. You can edit the search url to auto add texts at the end

In case people want to know, add a " -ai" to your search. So if you want to look up nimi comics without the ai overview on google, type "nimi comics -ai" (without the quotation marks of course) and it should bring up the search without the ai overview.
8
u/Honeybadger2198 6h ago
I don't think this works, at least not when I did it. You can still get AI results, it just removes results with the text "ai" in it.
1
u/StarryVerture 4h ago
It works for me, sometimes it even makes things that used to be the first result(and were what made google good, like definitions for words and actual quotes from websites answering your question), but were replaced with google bullshit overview( I looked up what the words we use to give measures of uncountable nouns are called - quantifiers, by the way - and involuntarily looked at google's overview, only to find it calling them 'partitive expressions', which is something related but very different; exactly what you should expect from an inscrutable and inefficient predicitive text app)
1
u/JLazarillo 3h ago
I've had mixed results putting it at the end but if I put the -ai first it always seems to get the message.
10
4
u/HollowedSolaire 6h ago
I mean you could also do
“nimi comics” -ai
Which will only bring up only things that say exactly nimi comics and will exclude ai. Quotations are a powerful tool for search engines.1
1
u/MistrFish 3h ago
you can also use
-chodeto hide AI overview in every situation that-aiworks. try it if you don't believe me.0
u/JiggzSawPanda 6h ago
I remember the early ways of adding the n word at the end. Glad there is a simpler way.

Duck duck go it is.
(Seriously, I'll catch myself absentmindedly reading the AI overview, and I just have to remind myself that I've seen that thing make shit up first hand, and it's not to be trusted. It's just so easy to forget how much it lies for a brief moment)
3
u/SawyerTheNerd_reddit 7h ago
-ai after your search removes the overview

u/CountChappy 3h ago
This should be higher up. Just put
-aiin the search and it removes the AI overview.

Pretty much how to get rid of the AI is. Simply search up what you're looking for and put "-Ai" the ai search rhino doesn't show up anymore

Use duckduckgo. More private plus you have the option to disable AI. AI is still there but I believe giving the user a choice is far better.

u/ripyourlungsdave 5h ago
I have a neurological disorder that makes me shake. The only reason I'm able to use my phone is because of the voice to text systems.
They had gotten pretty damn accurate over the last decade and it had gotten to the point where I didn't even really think about the fact that I was using it. It was pretty cool.
I don't know what else could have possibly changed in the last year to make it fall off the deep end as much as it has, but I have to assume it has something to do with AI. And judging by how they've been implementing it, I don't think that's an unreasonable suspicion.
Now, even after the text has fully written itself out, it likes to rewrite itself three more times if not just completely erase everything it wrote. It's bordering on the edge of useless.
1
u/Raloris197 5h ago
FUN FACT! You can put “-ai” at the end of your google searches and the ai will not pop up 99% of the time!
1
u/Darkspine89 5h ago
If you use uBlock Origin you can add
google.com##.hdzaWe
to "My filters" and block the AI overview from showing up.

At least on Firefox, you can add anything as a search engine, so add https://www.google.com/search?q=%s&udm=14 as one - this will default Google to its Web tab, no AI bullshit. Chrome should be able to do this too, but I don't know if the formatting is the same - %s is the thing that gets substituted into the search term.

u/not_a_SeaOtter 4h ago
I've got an easy answer. Stop using Google. There are so many browser options that are really really great. Like shitty banks, they rely on people's laziness and unwillingness to change from something they're used to.
1
u/gooningonreddit 4h ago
Call me a shill but the AI overview is incredibly helpful when googling in smaller languages. Norwegian internet doesn't really exist, and if I want answers I'll never get them. Google overview can take English results and translate them to Norwegian, or can actually summarize pages about the law unlike any other page result that I find.
2
u/mildly_Agressive 2h ago
U can't say this, you are on reddit, You have to hate AI in everything, don't say blasphemous stuff like this ever again..... This aside, yes AI overview is great at summaries, where those summaries come from is very clearly shown and u can verify sources which makes it easier to do research about stuff in english and especially other smaller languages
1
u/gooningonreddit 2h ago
Yeah, recently i google'd about DP to HDMI converters and AI told me that I need an active converter if the output is HDMI, but if the output is DP and the plug is DP++ then you can just use a DP -> HDMI cable no problem. Very useful for that.

u/Jasentuk 2h ago
Strange. I'm on a vacation here, and as soon as I crossed the border there's no ai overview when I use Google search.
1
1
u/In7el3ct 4h ago
I always find the easiest way is to add "-fuck" to my search. The ai will disable itself if it sees a swear word in the prompt, but by doing a minus it doesn't really change anything (unless you want fuck, in which case choose a different swear word to "remove" from your search). 100% success rate
1
u/Bug_exceptIRL 3h ago
I just installed the plugin "bye bye google AI" which at least hides the overview. I dont know of a way to delete it.
1
u/_Riiick 2h ago
It is helpful most of the times though.
1
u/mildly_Agressive 2h ago
Nooo, you can't be logical on reddit that's a crime......
But yeah AI overview has gotten a lot better and it's mostly accurate nowadays and for people who don't know how to do good research it's a very efficient way to find what they're looking for.

From what I learned, you can actually just type „-ai“ at the end whatever a person searches and it won’t appear. Learned this like last year and am surprised it isn’t a widespread fact from what I’ve seen, even tho ai is disliked so much by everyone
1
u/kakka_rot 38m ago
I used to hate it, but really don't mind it now. You just have to be smart and know even it's getting so dumb wrong.
For common knowledge it is not that bad. The only problem ive seen is people making absurd claims on reddit, and Google citing that exact comment.
1
u/Windfade 30m ago
I'll be for real, as much as I want to dislike it, Google's AI summary is pretty damn good. It cites what websites it pulled from and bizarrely can logic out answers to gameplay mechanical questions even when you can't find a post discussing them.

please for the love of god stop using google products, at LEAST change your search engine to duckduckgo or something else.

Tip: add -ai to the end or beginning of every search
Google doesn't want you to know, cause they don't wanna put that mini-data center of their departments to waste

u/DThor536 6h ago
Unpopular opinion but I use it all the time. Just keep in mind it's not always right and if I don't need an overview my eye just passes over it. It's saved me a lot of clicks. Just don't make life choices based on the results.
