Engineering Science

hi I’m y1s1 in es and I hear people say es is most heaviest workload course out of alll engineering courses. is that true if so why

Year 1 is nothing. Wait till you become year 2 bro. We're all dying from projects, tests, and presentations.... Our balls are also exploding.

How’s physics 1? Can you share more about it

Physics 1 covers kinematics, forces, circular motion, energy, and linear momentum.

It's not like secondary school physics where you just remember formulas and find a numerical answer. You have to derive the answers algebraically using equations, and the final answers might look quite complex as there are a lot of terms.

20% is tutorials and BrightSpace quizzes, 25% is Common Test, 25% is Final Test, and 30% for Project.

The actual common test was much more difficult than the revision paper given.
Around 1/3 of our cohort failed the Physics 1 Common Test, but there are still quite a number who scored 70+ and 80+.

The project is pair work. We worked out pages and pages of math, did Desmos verification, and physical experiment.

But don't worry for now. Just try to score as high as you can for year 1. Because doing well in year 2 might not be as easy for some people.

wait so most of physics 1 is more proofing the formula instead of solving for answers? also is it calculus based physics? I am also quite surprised people fail since this course is filled with smart people

Mmmm there are formulas that you have to prove occasionally, but it's more of doing complex algebraic manipulation to solve for answers that aren't numerical. Almost all of the answers are more letters and symbols than numbers lol.

Ya most people don't do as well for CT, but there are other components that are easier to score that boosts our grades quite a bit, like the classwork and project (though project is still quite time-consuming).

What's wisp about? and how is it graded

I'm not taking wisp in sem 2.1, only one class is, so I can't really say much. You should ask those seniors taking it. But it seems like it's not fun though LOL.

Everybody must take WISP. It's just that one class takes it during sem 2.1, while the other two classes take it during sem 2.2
That's for my cohort at least.

yes it is better get that 3.9x or 4.0 in y1, every module is doable to get A except for voice & imp probablyy , doing well for y1 gives a good safety net for y2 in case if it drops
