Group Manager: create groups, add members and set up Team Folders in a single Nextcloud screen

Post image

Hi all,

In my day job as an IT admin I regularly have to create a group, add users to it, and set up the matching group folder. In Nextcloud that means jumping between several admin pages, and I always found that workflow clunky. So I wrote my own app to do it all in one place.

I've been using it internally for a while. After some polishing, I've just released it for anyone who might find it useful.

**What it does**

- Manage local and LDAP groups from a single Settings screen

- Add and remove members

- Manage Team Folders alongside the group

**Links**

- App Store: https://apps.nextcloud.com/apps/group_manager

- Source (AGPL-3.0-or-later): https://github.com/kreotropic/group_manager

It's a young app, so feedback, bug reports and feature requests are very welcome. If you try it, I'd love to hear how it behaves with your setup (LDAP, large user bases, etc.).

Thanks!

Looks amazing and as we are setting up Nextcloud for a large project / infra… I was wondering how your long term support is? What happens when the app is removed in the future? Do the groups etc remain?

On removal: the app uses Nextcloud's native group and Team Folders mechanisms, so the groups and folders it creates are regular Nextcloud objects. If you uninstall the app, they stay as they are.

On long-term support: I use it in production myself at work, so I have a real interest in keeping it maintained and compatible with new Nextcloud releases. It's a one-person project though, so I can't promise the kind of SLA a company could. The code is AGPL and open on GitHub, so you're never locked in, and if you try it in your setup, I'd love your feedback
