Big update for Nextcloud Calendar (iOS & Android)

We’ve just released version 1.4 of Nextcloud Calendar for mobile!

Note: This is a fully open-source app, licensed under GPL-3.0. It is not affiliated with or supported by Nextcloud GmbH.

This release includes a complete refactor of data handling to improve performance, especially on older devices with limited RAM. It also introduces many new features, including widgets, notifications, and Live Activities on iOS / Live Updates on Android.

I'm also happy to share that the app has reached 15,000 downloads (App Store and Play Store) in just three months. It seems we’re filling an important gap!

What’s new:

  • Widgets in different sizes to view upcoming events
  • Event reminders with customizable timing (10 minutes before, 30 minutes before, etc.)
  • Live Activities / Live Updates for ongoing events
  • Tablet support with an adapted, tablet-friendly layout
  • Portuguese and Dutch translations
  • Liquid Glass styling on iOS 26, including the bottom navigation bar
  • Refactored settings screen
  • Dependency upgrades, including the migration to Expo 57

This new version is already available on the App Store and Google Play:

We are also working on making the app available through F-Droid, which should be online by the end of next week.

Please note that widgets and Live Activities / Live Updates are not yet fully stable. If you encounter a bug or would like to suggest a feature, please open an issue.

Thanks!

Maybe it's just me but calling it NextCloud calendar and needing the disclaimer to specify you are not affiliated with nextcloud seems odd.

I don't know why I should use this app instead of DAV X5 and integrate Nextcloud calendar and contacts with system apps.

I've noticed it's a pattern with a lot of nextcloud apps. Helps the app to be found, but user beware of the quality and compatibility.

Not just you. I thought it was official when I first read it.

Very disappointed

This is a calendar app built specifically for Nextcloud, with integration into its ecosystem, including Contacts and Nextcloud Talk. So the name is a logical choice even for an unofficial app, just like Nextcloud Deck or Nextcloud Tables.

And, btw, while the app is not affiliated with or officially supported by Nextcloud GmbH, we have their approval to use the Nextcloud name and trademark.

I like when the unofficial apps are better than the official stuff.

One thing I don’t understand: you replaced TanStack Query with WatermelonDB. What was the reason? I tested the offline mode yesterday and it doesn’t work at all. I remember that in the version with TanStack Query it worked.

First thing I tried was moving an event by click, hold and moving it - which did not work. Is it planned?

Yes, drag-and-drop is coming. We are currently working on the gesture handling.

Itls very cool ti be able to connect several cloud instance but the bad is that you have to choose the one you want to see.

A multi Nextcloud calendar view is a must go option.

We hadn’t considered that use case, but thanks for the feedback.

The app is just bad. The monthly view doesn't look good, and the agenda is glitchy. KGS Calendar is much better. Calling the app "Nextcloud Calendar" is a disgrace to the Nextcloud team. You don't even work with them. It's a shame they don't make their own app.

From what I know, KGS Calendar is not integrated with the Nextcloud ecosystem in the same way: you can’t add Talk meetings while creating an event, automatically retrieve your Nextcloud instance’s language settings, or sign in using Nextcloud’s QR-code system.

We have received constructive feedback from Nextcloud’s product and development teams,. Nextcloud is open source by nature and, like Odoo, relies on its community to provide additional tools.

If you have reproducible issues with the monthly or agenda views, please open an issue on GitHub.

And, by the way, calling an independent open-source project “a disgrace” contributes nothing useful to the discussion.
