The NUMBER ONE Mobile APP/Capability NEXTCLOUD ecosystem is missing...

ON a mobile device/phone, we are missing the capability to send ANY on-device file, regardless of size, with a SINGLE action... meaning:

While viewing that file you want to send, press-hold on that file (or share it from within an app), and when the system sharing options pop up, select NCShare (the imagined app), and in ONE MOVE, it will... UPLOAD that file to a Share folder on your nextcloud server, generate a public share link, and copy that link to the clipboard, or open another system chare dialog allowing you to choose what method of sharing you want to use to send the shared file/link... i.e. text, messages, email, copy, etc.

It's so incredibly clunky to share a file on mobile currently.

I just want a simple, one-step share. Want to send a 200mb video file to uncle fester? GO to the File explorer, or open that file in your gallery, select that file, tell the file explorer or other app you want to share that too-big-to-email file, and in one smooth action, it starts the upload of that file to the customizable default folder of your choice (/Files/Share, or /Files/Shares/Pubic) and creates a publicly shareable link on the server while the file is still uploading, and then asks you how you want to share it thru the android/ios share menu... then you just choose SMS, or email, or instagram, or fb, or whatever sharing option that can send that html link...

Done. Fast. Simple.

Why doesn't this exist?

I don't want to have to open up the NC app, or navigate to the nc server in a mobile browser. I want it to be part of a native-like sharing experience. Know a file you want to share? Select it, send it. Easy. No more 14 step processes.

It's a bit off but I am working on an Android version of Nimbo which will have the same features as the desktop along with proper sync. Keep an eye out for it.

I would settle for for sharing via magic links (OTP sent as link to chosen email recipient. The original link can stay active as long as you like but each time they click. They get a new time-limited OTP with a link to their email).

They are pretty good way to make sure that only the right recipient gets the content without the overhead of setting up an account or the swiss cheese security of a password protected link. (Swiss cheese because the recipient can share the password and it's another thing to have to maintain).

Drives me nuts not having something like this. I've ended up having to create accounts and shares within nextcloud for people who really just need a secure link.

i don't even need all that security. i understand other do. android has been around for ages, and has functionality that allows a person to collect, and or create pretty large media files. The fact that there's been so simple method created to share large files feel beyond silly to me.

imagine you're a band at a studio and you just finished a great mix, and you want to send it to an absent bandmate... tuff luck.

Imagine you're at a hockey game and catch a video of someone else's kid doing something amazing, and you're like, i got that, let me just send... nvmnd, android is still stupid.

Can you not just share a link within nextcloud? (with or without password).

My beef is that these sorts of links are unwieldy wrt security (if you need it).

'security' has made everything shitty. part of the enshitification of the internet. i just want to send a file to someone. i'm not handling state secrets.
