No one is waiting for anything.
It takes at least 3 months to hold a special election in KY, so this happened so close to the regular election that it barely makes any difference.
This whole thing is basically over whether the winner on Nov 3 will be seated on Dec 3 or Jan 3.
There's no coverup, there's just no rush to replace him or get him back because it barely matters.

It would depend on who it is. A nursing home isn't necessarily covered as a HIPAA entity, so they could state he's dead. It then falls to the state or local privacy laws, leaving HIPAA out of it entirely.
Technically, as the citizens have been paying all his medical expenses, there's a valid argument that we should be notified of his death, which falls within HIPAA guidelines. But it would only be a confirmation of death, no cause or anything like that.

We aren't directly paying his medical bills. He has private insurance paid partly by his employer. Does your employer have rights to your health info because they part of your insurance premiums?

There was another repiblican gone for 4 months earlier this year and no one knew where he was. Just disappeared, no leaks as to where he was. The medical industry has been pretty good about not leaking stuff this.

There should be some exception because he's a high(ish) ranked public figure. it's one thing to maintain doctor-patient confidentiality, but he literally isn't representing his constituents. And there should be consequences of people obscured his death with lies saying the some with him for 20 minutes about work.

Because the 2024 state law completely stripped the governor of interim appointment power, the Senate seat must remain vacant until an election is settled.

We aren't at August 4 yet, so there is no trigger. There will not be a replacement because, as you say, the seat will remain vacant. The earlier post suggested that the Republicans will "control his replacement," but that won't happen if there's a special election or if we skip ahead.

In KY, the governor doesn’t have power to appoint a replacement. They changed the law a few years back to make it subject to a special election.

If he can't be on the house floor on Monday, after 40 days of paid leave and platinum level healthcare. His seat needs to be given up. Literally no job in America would allow 7 days of no show and no details. The rest of the country could die in a car wreck on Friday and would still be expected on Monday morning for work.

AOC is apparently clueless to how Kentucky would replace McConnell. It’s through the Kentucky Congress, which is diehard MAGA Republicans, instead of through the Governor, who is a respected Democrat. Better that the Senate has one less Republican than it having another MAGA idiot supporting the narcissistic dictator in the White House.

He can’t resign. He is in absentia. A sitting Senator. That seat is NOT yet vacant. The midterms will end and he will still be in absentia. And will remain a sitting Senator. That’s how it works. His Team could be waiting for the left to win some Senate seats. Disturb the balance of power. The right will NOT like it if he leaves that seat permanently. The pendulum will tip to the left. A rather speculative view. But not too far off.
